They mean it's integral to the PS2/PSN experience but Home won't be your user interface for PS3 anytime soon, don't worry. Home will always be something you decide to go in or not.

I think that's what they've always wanted with Home, but i can't see them making it essential

I don't think anyone would be willing to wait 20 minutes for Home to load just so they can play one of their games or go online on one of them

Yeah, I'd wouldn't worry. Sony is smart enough to realize not to replace a simple, easy-to-navigate menu with some crazy game thing that has horrible loading times. Plus, you can play your PS3 offline, and Home is online... so yeah. don't worry, Sony ain't making that horrible mistake any time soon.2009-06-27 00:55:00

20mins to load?!
I hope you're being exaggerated, otherwise...
Seriously, it doesn't take me more than 2 mins to load.

Anywho, never really cared about home since it doesn't have good stuff so far, i'm waiting since they did say they'd add some more "interesting" things later on, but so far i've seen nothing...
So if they were to improve home a bit more and add some more stuff to it it wouldn't be THAT bad if they did that except you could also work offline otherwise it would suck.

Oh, you wish; when you try to get into a popular room, 20 min. is lightning fast for a load time. Trust me, I was part of the Beta (and my character is still stuck in the Resistance 2 room . Not cuz of position-what-not, but the FREAKIN' LOAD TIMES!!! ). I can't possibly imagine Home becoming the primary setup anytime soon. Sure, it might become a standard part (as a free feature), but not the only way you'd access online. What I can say is that the PSN's simple account management, exclusive online features and easily-accesible goodies will remain as the main experience.

My goodness, that's almost as ridiculous as the suggestion that the Criterion Games forum guys suggested (Burnout Paradise becoming the main online feature? ph-sha.)

Well it still takes about 3-4 minutes, which is waay too long if you ask me
I could walk downstairs and make myself a coffee in that amount of time!

I think a lot of people are disappointed about Home because it has nothing.
I'd at least want to have some fun customising, but you start with almost nothing and you actually have to pay real money for anything new!!

Seriously would you rather spend your money on 2-3 virtual chairs that serve no purpose other than decoration, or would you rather buy a game like Noby Noby for the same price?

I think they really need to put a nice selection of minigames and competitions in there that you earn credits and unlock things for winning. Then you could spend those credits on customising, or maybe even unlocking more minigames.

They need some sort of multiplayer game too that group of people with each other in a room to complete some sort of mission. That would really help people to find new friends and people to talk to, because so far i've never talked to anyone while in Home

It takes fewer than ten seconds for me to load up Home. Maybe it depends on internet connection or impatience. I think Home lost most of its usefulness when they cut out global voice chat. The E3 space was pretty cool while it lasted, and it sucks that it is gone now. It streamed all kinds of interviews, though I think all of them were probably available on the Playstation blog or elsewhere. I tried using Home for game launching when I got RE5. I figured I could just go to the RE5 zone and meet someone new and start up a game, but no one in the zone actually had the game. They just wanted to mooch free stuff and unlock items through the co-op scavenger hunt minigame.

As far as I can tell, no one game launches Resistance 2, not even for official game launching events. That makes sense to me, though, because R2 has a great built-in party system and matchmaking system. I was hoping Home would be able to compensate for other PS3 titles which lack such a coordinated multiplayer experience (KZ2...), but that hasn't happened yet.

@Dexiro: Home does have a lot of minigames with unlockable prizes. You get a T-Shirt for playing poker, and if you win, you get a silver watch. When you earn enough credits, you can play at the high rollers poker table for more prizes. Xi was a big deal for a while. My friend has a trophy case in his apartment which is full of stuff he won from Xi. The Resistance minigame is a pretty good game, and you can get a shirt, a hat, and a jacket from playing it. I think the Siren: Blood Curse stage had a co-op minigame for a while. I'm not sure if it's still going or not.

Chess, bowling, and mancala don't have prizes, but they're games. I think the EA racing game just got scoreboards or unlockable stuff.

They've added free character customization options. I can finally have a reasonable beard on my avatar! They do promotions for clothing items and such, too. I have half a dozen shirts which read "No Place Like [Home logo]" from the E3 events.

Some disc-based / downloadable games have unlockable Home items, too. I have four or so Resident Evil figurines posed in my apartment and a couple of arcade cabinets. I wear a DigDug hat and love it, and sometimes I wear a Pac-Man shirt with it. Then I feel really cool.

I agree that Home is pretty useless, but not because it doesn't have irrelevant minigames or customization options. For me, it fails as a place to meet new people, so I totally agree with you when you say you've never talked to anyone in Home. I only get on Home if I see a friend is on already. I've given up on trying to use it to find new people with whom to game. Who wants to type out real conversations on an onscreen keyboard? Ugh. Also, who wants to try to have a conversation with a bunch of people, half of whom are guys dressed as slutty women, and the other half are guys trying to publicly cyber with the other guys?

But then, is that a problem with Home, or the Internet in general?

You know, now that I think about it, they just added hamster suits in Home. Are they trying to turn it into a yiffing madhouse like Second Life?

I think all of this stuff you and snake are describing to me is from the US Home

The EU Home has absolutely nothing. It does have xi, but i'm too impatient to wait 30 minutes to download each of the separate rooms just so i can play a small 5 minute minigame.

And i guess the EU Home has much slower loading times too

na man we onestly have nothing of any fun.

ya know what
you take 30 miniuts to load up because these are new rooms your going into for the first time isnt it.
back in the beta it did take a long time to download things.

my advise is start downloading and change the channle to watch some discovery channel

No it's just the Xi thing that i don't want to download, it's not worth the wait

It did make me to re-download everything recently though which was a bit annoying

Each region has a different version of Home. Japanese people are on the Japanese Home (which is 200x better than the American one), North Americans are on the North American Home, etc. I see tons of people speaking in Spanish on North American Home. Nothing prevents you from visiting the other regions, though, if you make another PSN account, so you could try the European region if you really want a multilingual experience, solid-snake.2009-06-27 16:36:00

I prefer the NA Home to the Japanese one

I like my open space but i think the Japanese Home has too much of it. It just looks empty all the time!

NA Home has been getting better, but JP Home has way more games, and a multi-screen theater, and a pretty dock under the game center.2009-06-27 23:18:00
