Hooray! Im On The 'Cool Page' Again!...but

Archive: 10 posts

Whoopee, my previous level 'What You Think LBP Needs' got over 21,000 plays, but now i have made a new level and its growing rapidly in popularity.

BUT

It feels like a hollow victory, my new level is called 'Flying Missiles' and is a new spin on the 'Falling Bombs' concept. I was getting bored of seeing these 'bomb' levels all over the place, but wanted to give it a go myself, just for fun.

But low and behold, people liked it! I know this is a good thing, but i feel a bit of a sellout. My other far more original levels have much less plays, but, in my mind are more what LBP is about. Doing something innovative and creative.

So there you have it. Play it if you want to. But i'm hoping this will be the last 'Bomb' type level that gets popular.

Peace homie's!

I played it, and honestly... I can't stand these bomb levels. You can package them any way you want, they are all about the same. The person who plays it the most will inevitable memorize the bomb drops and get the high score... Not fun for me. If it makes you feel better, a lot of those plays are probably restarts, as some people try to get that top spot. There are no stats for 'unique players', so it may just be several people playing over and over...2009-06-27 00:30:00

Congrats. Maybe it will bring in some traffic for your other levels while it's still there. Next level, do it real serious and creative, and try to use your current popularity to get on page 1 with that.2009-06-27 00:32:00

I totally agree guys, i hate these 'Bomb Levels'. I know that's majorly hypocritical, but well, there you go. It's fun while it lasts. But i don't think people will restart my level 15,000 times will they???2009-06-27 02:33:00

Umm.... My 7-year-old did it 3 times himself. You know, I wouldn't be too hard on it - I mean, these kinds of levels are crack for 8-year-olds and under (oh... and people in Jail that they ONLY let play bomb levels).2009-06-27 03:42:00

Haven't played it, but then again I don't play anything that resembles 'When The Bombs Drop'

Which was really fun when it first came out, but I can't stand all of the copies/knock-offs.

And restarts definitely count for TONS of plays on these kinds of levels. The original version got like half a million plays in it's 7 day Cool Levels run. I know I probably restarted 10-20 times.

I personally have kind of a love/hate relationship with Cool pages. On the one hand, it's great to have a forum for getting a lot of plays, but on the other hand - when you realize how formulaic it all is, and that the vast majority of people playing your levels aren't really the people you want validation from it's a bit disappointing.

The hollow feeling you have inside is probably initially being impressed when others made it to the top of cool pages, and then eventually realizing what that REALLY meant.

Moral to the story: create levels because they're fun and entertaining, not because they get a ton of plays. So.... if you enjoy bomb/missile/exploding turtle levels make them. 2009-06-28 03:13:00
