This is from mobile view - no signature shows up.2009-06-26 12:59:00

this is default view. And I have a sig.

Any reason why this is? I just tried to refer someone to my signature in a post I made in mobile view. Made me look silly

I think the mobile view prevents signatures as it allows it to load faster and prevents the page stretching on small devices.2009-06-26 13:20:00

I understand that and it makes perfect sense. But that's to do with viewing in mobile view rather than posting from mobile view.

What doesn't make sense is that posting from mobile view stops the sig from showing up, ever. I don't get why someone viewing in default view shouldn't be able to see my signature just because of the device I'm posting from.

Well when you post a message, there's a box that is ticked by default which says "Show your signature". I assume that when using the mobile view, the box is automatically unchecked.2009-06-26 13:40:00

Seems to just be ommited from user view and handled backend (I think). I wonder if this is deliberate or just an oversight...2009-06-26 13:51:00

Actually, it quickens page load for mobile viewers. The signature requires an extra query to be run upon posting in order to pull your sig from the database and insert it into the post. On mobile view, the site automatically disables that feature to make posting a faster process for the user.2009-06-26 20:18:00

Sorry cartman, I'm not trying to argue with you here (for more reasons than I'd care to mention) but I'm confused because...

1. A server query takes ~ms, whereas mobile loading sakes ~s. That's a bit of a moot point though because:

2. If I post in mobile view, a record gets added to the the DB, with a bool or whatever to say "show sig". Then the page refreshes but because I'm in mobile view, the sig doesn't get loaded, because no sigs get loaded in mobile view... Surely that query never takes place.

Or is each post text actually appended with the sig at the time of posting? Cause that just seems stupid... Edit, And it's not true as well, just tested it

Are you using the Mobile style or are you just posting from a mobile phone with the Default style? Assuming the former, then that style doesn't even offer the option to include your signature. Check the data sent to the site when you reply using the Mobile style - the "signature" info isn't even sent, so "0" is assumed. It's one of many changes made to improve page load times for the end user; it might not have a significant impact on its own, but combined with the other data that also isn't sent, it does help significantly. If you'd like to make a post from your mobile phone and include your signature, just use the Default style.
