The Battle for the timed stuff

Archive: 22 posts

I?m still here asking, or better, BEGGING you guys to re-upload on the PSN store the costumes and packs that were limited for strict time.
Me, and other users even in LittleBigPlanetCentral, are asking this, and maybe there are a lot of other users that want to complete their collection. (Obviously the First Week T-Shirt and the Crown are out of this)
Seriously, we are willing to pay.
Please SHARE this stuff.

This is a battle, I?ll be there every blog post, everyday, no matter how many time you?ll censor me.
I?m patient, I?ll always be polite, since I love you MM guys and your wonderful game, but I?ll be annoying.

PSN: OmegaSlayer

This is my post today at the MM's blog
As some of you may already know, I decided to start a "battle" to get back on PSN the costumes and stuff that was available only for a short period.
https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12394
I don't find fair and correct that something is available only for a selected time since, for a countless amount of reasons, not everyone has "granted 24/7" internet access.
I think that is really cool and kind from MM's side to give us free stuff, but it would be cooler if the stuff could be available for free the first week and then for a few bucks later on.
As Rustbukkit said in another thread, the concept should be to SHARE.

If anyone else agrees, please fight with me, don't be greedy and fight for others latest users.
Thanks.

Opening up a supposedly polite request with a declaration of a "battle", and threatening to be annoying and to spam them every day is not the right way to go about this, IMO. For something important then I'd totally agree with this methodology, but when you are just whining and trying to bully people because you want a toy that someone else has and you don't, it just makes you look pathetic. Personally, if I were MM, I'd ignore a post like this on principle.2009-06-26 12:41:00

You see rtm223, I'm a polite guy (I think that this quality merge the 98% of LBP users), but I got quite p****d because they actually censored one of my reply.

Maybe a choose the worst term (pardon my English again), but it doesn't want to be neither harsh or bloody, it only means that I'm firm on this position, even if I have to be annoying.

I invite you to read my post again and tell me how harsh it is, maybe I'm just wrong.
But if you agree with me on the general purpose, I ask you to help me and refine the way we're asking this to MM in a good polite English

First point, your English is fine, don't appologise to english-speaking people for your english.

Secondly, it's not so much the wording but the overall concept. You want something, so you are going to hassle them until you get it. Effectively trying to bully them into doing something they don't want to do (I don't know or care what their reasons are, but someone has clearly decided this). Regardless of language I think that's pretty bad attitude to take over something so petty.

Feel free to carry on with this, but all I'm saying is that if someone did this to me I would just ignore them.

Ok, so I got the point, thanks rtm.
I don't want to hassle people, I would just like an answer, even like: "no, we prefer that the things stay like they are now."
That would be fine.
Maybe you're right and I'm behaving like a kid, it's only that my narrow mind can't figure out the reason(s) of their decision.

But I honestly think that they should treat all the customers/users in the same way, giving them all the same possibilities to buy/not buy whatever they want.

Maybe it's all due to my adversity against DLCs, to the Fallout3 360/PS3 episode.
It's not right that people that bought the same product have the rights to access the same content if they want and are willing to pay for it, and I can't understand a timed frame access.

But if I mail them (1 time, so I didn't bash them) and got no answer, if I contact them through the blog and I'm even erased after being published, I don't know how to get an answer.

And maybe I'm just deluded because from what I see, MM guys are really cool, down to earth guys, very kind with us.

I completely agree with OmegaSlayer's thoughts on this topic. That being said, I agree to an extent with rtm223's philosophy on the idea of being a bit of a nuissance intentionally. I see what your attempting and I believe there is some validity in it... but I can see how this comes off to some as being a negative approach.

Personally, I don't have the time or effort to leave messages with Mm on a daily basis regarding the many things I think could use improving with regards to different aspects of the game.... although I wish I did sometimes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with poking your head in on the Mm boards once a week with a little "Hey guys! Any chance you changed your mind about re-publishing limited time DLC and charging us for it? Those of us who are new to the game and missed out on it the first time around would really appreciate having access to the DLC and would be perfectly willing to pay for it. Play, Create, Share... right?"

Why you haven't recieved a reply or why they censored your post is beyond me, and I've never understood the mentality behind making something available for a limited time unless you are charging for it. Limited time offers are tactics used by companies to drive sales up in a short amount of time, and take advantage of our mob mentality feeding frenzy traits. When it comes to limited time offers concerning products that are free, the only reason behind that is to use the free item as an incentive to buy whatever item attached to the offer, or to draw the consumer into their establishment with the hope of enticing the customer to actually pay for other products they see in the store. It's still a valid tactic where retailers are concerned.

I simply don't see how this tactic can reasonably be applied to free costume DLC. If the demand is there, why not give those who desire it access to it? It's free after all.

As I've said in the past... offering DLC for free for a limited time is certainly a great philisophy and one that will keep players happy and interested in a product. It keeps the players eye on the game and what is going on with new develeopements and other DLC that costs money. But they should at least make it available to those who wish to buy it after the limited time offer has expired. There's no harm in that at all.

5.99 for all the previously free costumes?

I'd do that.
Heck, I'd pay 1.99 for the astronaut costume!

Yes, maybe the "Hey, I'm here, remember guys" tactics works better.
Thanks Rustbukkit.

Personally, i'm not sure this is going to get very far. Obviously MM is trying their best to make their already great game better (because that means more sales, and more DLC bought etc) but i believe a majority of people are more interested in actual game creation tools, rather than costuming, and in both respects players are always looking for something NEW. It may seem like a minor thing to us, regarding putting things back in the store, but i imagine there is a bit of paperwork and behind the scenes work required to get things onto the playstation store. If MM puts new DLC in the store, they are guaranteed a lot of sales, as noone has had an opportunity to have said DLC before. If MM put old DLC back up, they are in no way guaranteed a similar response, especially when (in this case) most people were able to get the items for free. As such, they would be catering to a far more limited market, especially since if the items were now put up for a price, a fair amount of people are going to complain because the item was free for many many others. This boils down to how much effort MM will have to put in to get things back in the store, and the fact is the money may not be worth the time and effort, especially when they could be working on other projects with a higher return value. Its also possible that the DLC may be rereleased later, but now isn't the time (ie: at valentines, the valentines pack may once again surface- but thats merely speculation). The limited time DLC also offers appeal to buy the game "now" rather than later, and i imagine is probably responsible for a fair amount of their sales.

i have nothing against your crusade to get things back in the store, good luck to you, i just feel that these are probably several reasons why it may not ever reach fruition.

Besides, timed stuff is probably gonna be released every year, maybe even the space suit costume too as a the week LBP was released comes by again.
Besides, i'm pretty sure i've seen you and other people in this same thread saying how Costumes and such aren't a big deal and don't add anything to gameplay in other thread(s), but now you're complaining about it here...
Yeah... pick a side 1st then defend it m8...

No, no, I enjoy LBP as a whole experience.
The costume thingy is something that I really enjoy, sometimes I switch the game on only to play with the costumes.
Sometimes when you're low you click a few times on randomize the custome and you get back your smile.
And really, I own the game since day one but I haven't got a 24/7 access.
I can't pay 2 internet bills, so my connection is at my shop, where I stay most of the day, not at home.
And I lost the Leprechaun costume because I was at the hospital, but I could have been away due to work, on vacation or whatever.
What I say is that I can't understand the idea that I have or not something "special" (as someone says) only because I was near the PS3 at the right time.

It's silly, but do you know that Thursday I had to stay at work 1 hour more to DL the Sacktue Of Liberty?
At 6:30 PM in Italy the content wasn't on PSN yet, so I had to stay to work and wait.
Then a storm arrived and I didn't avoid it.
When I got back home, the bag with my PS3 was completely wet, and it's 2 days that I avoid turning it on.
Bringing 399 ? of stuff back and forth is not my first choice in life, but I always supported MM (even buying every pack, even the Burgman stickers), since they deserve it, but they should avoid this thing of timed stuff, since I really can't understand it in any way.

Sorry for the long rant, but maybe if you understand my reasons, you can understand better why I complain.

Yeah i know, i enjoy costume making as well, editing and all that stuff is part of the whole experience, i was just asying i saw people on this thread complaining about Coutumes DLC and how they didn't really matter and stuff, but i know what you mean..
Remember tho that probably everything will be released later on.
Keep in mind sometimes people too get mad that that "limited stuff" is later on sale, for example, me who preordered the game just for that "exclusive pre-order" content (GoW/ Nariko packs), then they release it for sale, how do you think everyone who preordered thir games just for that felt then? :/
Funny thing is, the stuff that should have stayed limited, didn't and the stuff that should stay in the store, was limited XD

Most of the free stuff is coming back the next year. The important things like the Launch costume and Week 1 T-Shirt are exclusive for a reason. I personally think it shows how long you have been there. It also says if you've helped a lot (the crown :-o). And don't tell me you don't enjoy showing off your costumes to your friends 2009-07-06 06:34:00

Which one was the launch costume???
Are you really sure they will offer again that stuff for free next year?
I'm not since I don't understand the point.

I think the 'launch' costume is the Spacesuit, which was available only for the first week LBP was out. Giving it away again would defeat the purpose.2009-07-06 14:50:00

Just the things from holidays they will most likely always have. The Launch costume is the astronaut costume. That and the week 1 t-shirt they will never again have.2009-07-06 17:31:00

They should put the crown, astronaut and pumpkin costume in one pakc but not the 1st week shirt cuz that should be like a little prize for getting it early. And yes i know the astronaut was a launch thing but I reaalllly want that one . Also does anybody know when the Druid costume will come out to buy? And wasn't there a couple God of War story levels? The only thing they gave out from GoW was the stickers and costumes.2009-07-10 03:21:00

The Druid costume was limited time only... won't be for sale, just like the rest of the limited DLC. If you missed it and it's not available anymore, you're out of luck.

No GOW story levels that I'm aware of... just the costumes and stickers (unless I somehow missed them)

I like the limited time downloads, but I am sad that I missed some of them.

Limited availability makes me log on regularly to make sure I get them, and there is always a bit of added excitement about an item you can only get for a week.

why not have limited time free stuff and then whack a price tag on it after a week, that way everyone is happy

It's what I always said.
