The Best of Movie and Video Game Themes

Archive: 8 posts

I decided to make a playlist of the best movie and video game themes, seeing as I have tons of them. I really wanted an epic list that I could just listen through, because I love film and video game music.

Not sure how many of you share the same enjoyment for these kinds of songs, but I wanted to share the list.

Also, if you have any you want to add please tell me! If I'm missing an awesome movie/video game theme, then I must know!

I organized the playlist so the first half is film music, and the second half is video game music. Within that I organized it by artist, and within that I organized it by what I thought would transition well, to create a flowing and awesome playlist. I haven't actually listened to the whole thing through yet seeing as it's just over 3 hours of music and I just made it, but I'm working on that

...Obviously that last one isn't a video game, but I had to start and end with songs from probably the greatest soundtrack of all time.

Also I'm missing a lot of the video game music composers. If anyone knows them, let me know, and if I got one wrong also let me know

Hope you enjoy the list! Anyone who likes film music should listen to every song on that list!

Um, yeah, you kinda missed that one guy... he does Tales of, Star Ocean (or at least SO3), and Golden Sun... Forget his name, but, uh...

The problem is you are choosing themes, and the Tales of guys usually get a band or something to cover their theme... speaking of which, you wanna try youtubing Karma from Tales of the Abyss? ... I dunno, I like it... >_>

...But yeah. He's an awesome composer and, uh... /sniped

Thanks! I forgot about Motoi Sakaruba - I haven't listened to a lot of his stuff, but what I have was good. I'll add that on when I get the chance to listen to them more and fit them in.2009-06-26 01:15:00

Duh! How can I forget one pf my favorite composer's names :/

Anyway, what you do have is good, but, well, can't forget him . Especially after what he did with the limited GBA soundchip in GoldenSun

But yeah, good stuff so far, though I'll admit I haven't heard all of it.

If you havent heard it you need to
theres two versions but they are very similar
Its either "One winged angel" or "Sephiroth's Theme"
Best video game villian of all time and a great song
Also i would add the Theme from kingdom hearts. Its an instumental variation on the song "Simple and Clean", which is also very good,

Also the lord of the rings movies have some pretty cool music that you might want to try

i apologize i cant remember any of the composers off the top of my head but you should definatedly look these up if you get the chance

Wow! I can't believe I forgot Lord of the Rings. I'll definitely add that as soon as I get the chance.
That's by Howard Shore

Kingdom of Hearts I'll have to check out.

EDIT: @RockSauron - haha I didn't remember his name either - I wikipedia-d it
Most composers I know though (like Howard Shore I knew right away), it's really just the japanese ones that I can't remember. I can only really remember Koji Kondo

EDIT EDIT: I finally finished listening through my own playlist v1

As it turns out, I ended off with the wrong song. I saw the title of the star wars song and automatically assumed it was from A New Hope. Really it's the Revenge of the Sith end credits. I really wanted to finish off with one of the original ones though, so I went looking for a different Star Wars End Credits from one of the originals.

I quickly realized there was only way this playlist could end. And that was with Episode VI End Credits. Why? Well, sure it's the last Star Wars, but more importantly it opens with the comical Yub Nub song from the Ewoks, transitioning amazingly into the end credits. It's a nice light ending for the playlist, and the rest of the end credits are as good as ever.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: I added Berlin Foot Chase from Bourne Supremacy to represent the Bourne Series (by John Powell). I also added James Bond by Henry Mancini - I can't believe I forgot that one!

I haven't decided yet which song I'll use to represent the LoTR theme.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: By the way, just for the record I can play most of these on the piano

Yeah. You NEED "One Winged Angel". Best version is on Avent Children imo.

I'm going to download some of these. I can't believe I dont have the theme to Jurassic Park.

Oh, I would replace "The Incredibles" with:
YouTube - 19. The Incredits
One of my favourite instrumental pieces.
