Mario Levels

Archive: 19 posts

Hey guys I was just talking about a Super Mario Level I was planning on creating in another thread and it got me thinking that there are so many classic levels that I plan on using for inspiration. Now I dont plan on ripping them off completely just incorporating some of the things I liked into my own created levels. Just wanted to know what some of your favorite levels are that you're planning on using for inspiration. My top 5 in no particular order would look like something like this:

Super Mario Bros Level 1-1: I plan on recreating this as my first project to get used to the create tools as its such a simple iconic level.

Super Mario Bros Level 2-3: Just the part where your walking across the bridge and the fish are flying at you from under the water. So cool

Super Mario Bros 3 Level 7-?: Just a level with a similar concept of guiding a platform all the way up a level and controlling the direction of the platform

Super Mario Bros 3 Tank Levels: Remember in the final world and you had those levels where all those tanks are coming at you with cannons going off all over the place and those stupid moles popping theyre heads up and throwing stuff at you? They were brutal and so epic when I was a kid. Definately throwing a similar section in one of my harder creations.

Super Mario World Star/Special Zone: Well not really a level but remember how when you find the special star zone and if you managed to beat all 5 star zone levels with the hidden exit you would get to go the special zone and proceed to get your a** handed to you in some of the hardest mario levels ever created? Pure evil right? Well thats what I'm going to try to do. Make a set of reasonably difficult levels with keys hidden in ridiculous places, and once you finally grab all the keys you unlock more headaches with even more impossible levels.

What are some of your mario ideas?

Ya the one later in the game is brutal cuz they fly so fast. Your only option is gun it all the way across the level and pray for the best lol

OH do the Mario level from the hidden levels or the real Mario 2, the one that you have like 3 platforms and you have to jump into the air and coast to each platform, the thing is that you can't see where you are at and you have to get a little bit of luck that you land on the platforms right.2008-09-04 19:42:00

Oh man I cant beleive I forgot the secret levels. That was insane on Super Mario All stars for SNES. I felt cheated when I found out they never released the original in North America cuz the japanese developers felt it was too hard for us. I totally couldve beat that game. I downloaded the original for Virtual Console I've been slowly making my way through it but i never had the time to sit down and beat it completely... I might make that my homework for tonite see if I can get some added ideas .

Yeah it is worth it, so many cool levels on that game. That is up there as my favorite mario games. Yeah and I also felt the same way as you did, I could have done that when I was a kid, I thought Nintendo went downhill when the put that thing they call Mario 2. That game was fun but it wasn't mario, it really just does not fit in the series, and I think they should have released the real game it was made from.

What is the secret name for your levels since you cannot name your levels 'Mario' due to copyright issues? Personally, I would go with Jumpman since that was the original Mario name, or better yet, JumpSack. 2008-09-04 20:56:00

I really wanted to upload some 8-Bit stickers from 1-1 and recreate it, but, with the copyright thing, I guess I'll have to disguise it somehow. Oh, and the flag at the end could be the race finish flag.2008-09-05 00:21:00

I'm planning on making each world from SMB it's own level. I was going to name them Plumbing 1 (1-8) or something like that for copyright reasons. Or Super Sackio Bros.2008-09-05 02:36:00

So you are going to put these levels online and not keep them private?

Hmmm. I just hope they don't get taken down.

Hopefully they won't because they don't have Mario in the name and won't have any copyrighted graphics from the games. They just happen to look very familiar...2008-09-05 03:07:00

Level 4 where everything is a giant lol. Again it was one of those things that now isn't really that big of a deal but at the time when you were a kid was just freaking awesome lol. Definately making a Giant Level2008-09-05 14:31:00
