A lot of youtube videos are just disappearing from posts.

I noticed that, and frequently Youtube will be "under maintenance" when I try to open the main page. I'll get this page: http://www.youtube.com/oops/error.html

I noticed this as well. I thought maybe the mods or admin was blocking them for some reason, but I haven't seen any mention of it from them so I guess it is a problem with Youtube instead.2009-06-25 04:59:00

YouTube seems to be working fine now. Do any of you have a link to a post/thread with a YouTube player that disappeared during the time of the outage?

Yep... sure do. All the video posts from this thread just dropped off all together CC. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12866

I thought maybe threads with video content were discouraged and that this is why one of the staff may have deleted them.

Actually, it was a complicated series of coincidences that lead to them not showing up:

Video was posted.
YouTube went down temporarily, which also caused all embedded video to fail to load.
Our site rebuilt the post cache (more below) during the outage, which caused the video to "disappear".
AME (Automatic Media Embedder) cached the posts containing videos in it's own separate cache.
Although the site had rebuilt it's cache, AME had not, so the videos failed to display even after YouTube went back up.

I have manually rebuilt the post cache and AME's cache and synced them both, which has fixed the problem. The link above should show all videos now without a hitch.

Also, regarding the post cache: our site saves the parsed post content (what the raw HTML looks like after the BBCode has been converted to HTML) in a separate file in order to reduce page load times and lower the hit on the servers. It's a very useful feature, but it can cause issues in rare cases such as this.

Okay... here's what I got. Vid's posted, Youtube failed, your system attempted to re-load or link vid's but failed, followed by a new fail creating an epic fail. Something about your ATM and lack of cash, more techno-babble... you went out of your way to fix it... insert a little more techno-babble to confuse Rustbukkit (who can work a computer but doesn't have a clue just how this magic box actually works) and... PRESTO - the video links are all back up and running!!

Man.... am I glad there are folks like you in the world to keep stuff around me from breaking all the time. If you ever need any special effects, makeup, or sound design done just let me know... I totally owe you one. But there's no way I'm going to explain how I did it.

Seriously though.... thanks for fixing the problem.

I'll take that as a really, really long "thank you". You're welcome. I also appreciate the compliment.
