Who gave me Reputation?

Every now and then I get reputation with comments amongst the thanks posts. Now with the thanked posts I can look and see on the thread who has thanked me. With the rep, I don't seem to be able to know who has given me reputation, I just see an anonymous comment. Any way of viewing it?2009-06-25 00:37:00

But seriously, CC removed it after a certain incident where they tried to get rid of things that gave some users a certain sense of elitism. Not too sure how being able to view who repped you would lead to elitism, but I guess something about trying to "game" the system, which led to the incident in question.

Plus it took quite a fight to get being able to view other people's rep gems/ rep points in the Experience thingie, so hey, life ain't that bad. And their efforts to get rid of elitism back then also led to the forum you know now.		2009-06-25 01:03:00

My guess would be that if someone receives negative rep and they see who did it, they are going to wage a negative rep war. So if someone can't see who gave them the rep, there are no negative repping battles were people just negative rep back and forth.2009-06-25 02:04:00

The reason negative rep is anonymous is because there are many users who are non-confrontational and would not leave negative feedback if it could lead to irritation or an argument. The downside, of course, is that rep can be abused, but that's usually fairly easy to track down and reverse on the rare occasion that we have an issue. Do you have any reason to suspect that this is a case of rep abuse?2009-06-25 05:07:00

And I just rep'ed you jw, to see what it did...but it was not a frivalous rep, as you are actually a deserving individual.

Not really. The rep system is mostly used in conjunction with the "Thanks!" feature, as 1 "Thanks!" counts as giving +1 rep as well. To be honest, I agree with you - I don't see much point to the rep system either. However, we tried to remove it a while ago, and there were enough members opposed to the idea that we decided it would be best to keep, but underplay. Now, we encourage use of the "Thanks!" system, which explains why you (and many other members who joined after the rep fiasco) weren't even aware that the option to rep even existed.		2009-06-25 09:26:00

I was unaware of the rep system beyond thanks until I noticed the comments and started digging around I'm not concerned of a rep abuse issue, it's all positive rep anyway. I understand why negative rep would be hidden, but not positive. I'm not really fussed about it and not asking you to change anything, it's just a couple of time the comments have made me feel curious and if there was a way to view it that'd be nice.2009-06-25 10:09:00

I`ve given positive rep to someone if they`ve given somebody else really good feedback. If it`s in my thread I tend to hit the 'thanks' button, but it`d look a bit daft if I had my name under good feedback in a thread for a level that had nothing to do with me.2009-06-25 12:23:00

I've given numerous positive rep's, but that's just because I've carried over the habit from other forums. I always leave a comment though about why they are getting the rep. 2009-06-25 12:32:00

I usually use the thanks system but if someone goes out of their way for another member and they don't get thanked I'll put a rep in for them. I do leave a comment as to why though. Yeah, I spent ages on the data backup tutorial and although it didn't get many responses I got a few thanked posts and some rep with comments. It was good to know that my hard work had been worthwhile and it saved those people posting just to say thank you.2009-06-25 19:30:00

I use the "LittleBigExperience" area to see how much rep everyone has. If someone starts getting near my rep, I negative rep them just so they don't catch up to me!

Apparently, you can only give one person so much rep at a time. I tried giving you (read: rtm) rep for something and it said something along the lines of "you need to spread the rep around before giving it to rtm again." As CC and RockSauron have said in the past some people who had the equivalent of the "Ultimate Bundle" were abusing the reputation system. They were giving positive reputation back and forth by using the fact that they could see who had given them rep and then give positive reputation for meaningless posts as a way to pay back the favour. Once we (the staff) realised the problem we removed the ability for regular users to be able see who has given the reputation to prevent the repeat of previous abuses.

This also lead to the "Thanks" system to allow for more transperancy between people giving reputation to also help prevent abuse. The old system is still in place but it is a way to give "thanks" anonymously, kind of like an unexpected and pleasent surprise out of the blue, rather than what might have happened before where it might have been viewed as a favour that needed to be returned.

It's not hyper important that people need to see who has individually repped them. The public "thanks" system allows people to see what posts people appreciate, and the less obvious normal reputation allows general users to give a more anonymous yet encouraging support to people.

Moderators and admins are still able to monitor reputation and their authors however, to prevent abuse. We can also arrange for reputation to be wiped if people do abuse the system. However, since the changes were made several months ago, we have had a whole lot less problems with the reputation system as a whole.

It's now pretty much what it's meant to be. A system which can indicate the users who are helpful to others, rather than a popularity or elitist system, and I think that's what it was there for in the first place. 		2009-06-28 20:09:00

You can view the forums as invisible so other users don't see your online. But if you have the ultimate bundle the online dot that is usually grey for offline and green for online will be red for invisible users that are online


Can't remember what the detailed user activity is. BUT when I look at someone's profile page, under their name it says last activity and current activity

For example under your name on your profile page just a moment ago it said this:

Last Activity: 2 Minutes Ago
Current Activity: Viewing Index LittleBigPlanet Central Forums

So I think that's what it must be. Can't remember if that's there for normal users?????		2009-06-28 20:51:00

Thanks guys. Was going to get a package since I have to empty my PM box every other week, and I'm ages off being able to get the ultimate, and it hardly seems worth it.

Also, tip: When yout get a bit closer to 2,500 points, you can sell whichever bundle you bought for 75% of what you got it for . So yeah, that's a way to get it now yet still be able to game the system and get the ultimate bundle sooner... meyep >_>		2009-06-28 21:23:00

Another alternative is to give away any un-needed bundles to good friends or helpful people as a gift. It can be a great way to encourage people, and many people often enjoy unexpected gifts. 		2009-06-29 05:02:00
