Well this one isn't mandatory, so if someone feels it is unnecessary, they don't have to download it. Also, it does speed up the XMB and trophy loading, and I've heard it increases the length of text chat messages.2009-06-24 17:50:00

what is software playback?

Any software on the PS3 is usually a game, so software playback would be the PS3 running games. So it fixes or stabilizes games running on PS3, usually resulting in less crashes depending on what they fixed.

Well if this is true and it fixes the crashing problem even a little then it's essential for me because my system must have crashed 20 times or more while playing LBP.

Funny how it never crashed once in the previous 2 years though !!

that's a problem with LBP, something sony can't fix unless they force mm to do it

I didn't notice any crashes. Hopefully it fixes the other problems I been having, I left it downloading when I left the house.

The only problem I get with LBP, is anything I search busiest levels and join, it takes a while to get in, and when i do get in, I watch a speeded up blurry version of people already playing the level, then it settles down and I enter at the next door.

Anyone else get this, I usually just search busiest levels so that could be the issue.

I don't think the update has come to the UK yet. When it comes out I hope it does do what it promises. Sometimes my copy of LBP crashes a LOT.2009-06-28 12:23:00

It doesn't notify you automatically you have to go to system updates or whatever it's called to get it. ; )2009-06-28 12:30:00

It is out. I installed it a few days ago. As Syroc says it isn't an automatic one,you have to go to system update and select via internet.

However my PS3 completely froze again last night while playing LBP so it hasn't fixed the problem if it was supposed to.

Also the last couple of days have been horrendous again for lag and connection problems. Yesterday I was on for about 2 hours and only managed to load 2 or 3 levels in all that time as they were taking ages to load again.

I gave up with playing and went into create mode instead but it took me over 5 minutes just to select 1 sticker from my popit. I just admitted defeat in the end and switched it off in disgust.

For you guys out there who say you don't have any of these problems you are very very lucky. I wish I could say the same.

Those symptoms you describe there are on Media Molecule's part i'm sure. This really sounds like their server having problems and this is probably because of the online beta.

Seriously, firmware updates for the PS3 have been EXTREMELY clean since forever. It's total no worries.

Possibly we have talked about this before on another thread... so please forgive me.

Just curious... are you connected via wireless or cable to your router? I was using mine wireless and as I started going online more, I started noticing tons of errors being generated in my router log from the PS3. Even though my PS3 is in the same room as my wireless router and my laptop connects blazingly fast, the PS3 is a horrible slow turtle and generates tons of dropped packets and other errors if connected via wireless. I have since plugged in a cable and most of my slow loading issues vanished. I still have it lock up occassionally, but most of the online play lag and slow loading issues have been eliminated.

No I have a wired connection. It's never been great but has got much worse since the last update and since the online create beta started.

I wish they'd never started that online create testing because I honestly think it's more trouble than it's worth and will never work properly. If it's going to work at all we need a much bigger thermo for the levels.

For instance take my newest level. I made a stagecoach, covered wagon and saloon and the thermo immediately went up to around 5/8 full. Now imagine if you have even 2 people working together in a level and they both do that !!!! That's it GAME OVER , the level is instantly overheated.

If there are no plans to increase the thermo size then the project is dead in the water before it's even started. At least as far as detail in the level is concerned. The only levels that are going to be possible with the present limits are skateboard and rocket cheetahs. We really need more of those don't we ?

Oh right, I was expecting it to be a necessary internet update as usual.
