Mm expanding their team?

Archive: 25 posts

Over at PSU they spotted a job listing from Media Molecule. It could just mean more work on LBP, or it could mean a new IP all together. Who knows :kz:

The job listing certainly hints at LittleBigPlanet 2, as it seeks applicants with ?experience writing and maintaining physics code,? and who have experience with console games with online components. The new title is a ?Ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment.?

Here's the link: http://www.psu.com/Media-Molecule-working-on-new,-groundbreaking-PS3-game-News--a007626-p0.php

Maybe now's the chance for you budding game designers to try and get involved

Some of the details in the job ad (http://www.edge-online.com/jobs/gameplay-programmer-media-molecule) suggest that there work will focus mostly on developing a new game or a serious expansion to an existing game.

Since it's an online game, I'd gather that they're working on a new game, possibly of the play, create & share genre, and that the game will implement a strong physics model.

How the hell does that hint at an LBP2?MM said they didn't want to release another LBP for PS3 to not separate the fanbase or something along those lines. Also, looking for experienced programmers is sort of.. like.. you know... obvious? Why would they want to hire someone with no experience when they could get someone with experience? :/2009-06-23 12:33:00

I don't know why a job opening is suddenly making people think Mm are creating a new game...

Really why? :s

It sounds to me like they might be looking for someone to add more complex physics to the engine like water, wind and changing gravity

I'm pretty sure Mm have had job openings for ages anyway, i don't think this is anything new

Actually now that i've read the actually job requirements i think they might just be looking for someone to speed up the new features and bug fixes

"It was thought that the developers were working only on LittleBigPlanet PSP, as the studio is fairly small and employs only a handful of people."

I thought it was common knowledge that Mm were not making the PSP game? Dunno what that website is, but I won`t be looking to them for news.

2nd'ed.

when I read that I became dubious about the whole story.

and the job listing itself says that MM is a company working on a triple AAA PS3 title (AKA little big planet) not that the person would work on a new title, or at least that's how I read it

Just because you think something is common knowledge, doesn't necessarily mean it is. I've actually seen a lot of questions on this site posted by very well known member, when I had thought the answer was common knowledge.

If that really made any sense whatsoever...
Anyway, I honestly don't want Mm to be working on something else, I don't want an LBP2 or anything, just keep expanding this one (and the PSP one, of course).

My point being that for a news site regarding games, they clearly hadn`t done much research.

People asking questions on this website have no such obligations.

I DEFINATELY have to agree with Matt on this one - it has been announced just about everywhere that MM aren't the ones developing LBP for the PSP. If it was just "me" telling someone else that story, it would be different - but for a story to be reported like that on a reputable gaming news site is odd.

Yeah if you are a specialist news site (I mean 1 console, that's quite specialist) and you can't get your facts right on a piece of info that's on frickin' wikipedia then that's bad. Plus I agree that their analytical skills are a joke. MM are looking for "a gameplay programmer". a. That's 1. I do not envy the sofware engineer who's making a "ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" by themselves... Does it occur to anyone that LBP1 is a "ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment"?

I don't trust that site for news, maybe for someone to laugh at / pity, but not for news...

Edit - looks like there is a duplicate thread in news, if any mods want to merge...

I actually hope they DON'T make a LBP2...yet. There's so much more that they could do with the first one, plus I think it'd be kinda pointless to make the sequel this gen.

Back on topic, yeah, this just seems like a rumor to me.

I don't think it's a new IP. Probably deeper work on LBP, maybe more brainpower to help fix online lag issues or help with the beta

PS: Thread title Edit.

This job has been advertised on their own website for ages now? Fact is, getting in one extra programmer isn't an indication of anything. Someone might be leaving, they might just want a bit of extra help with all the bug fixing. I wouldn't read too uch into it to be honest.2009-06-24 10:07:00

Based purely on what Mm has said in interviews and where they seem to be headed in terms of future content, I seriously doubt they're actively working (or even planning for) a new IP. I'm sure they've tossed around ideas, but I don't think they want to change their focus so quickly, especially with the (currently) consistently growing LittleBigPlanet community.2009-06-24 11:10:00
