Preloading game resources screen

Archive: 44 posts

With in the last week i have been geeting this screen i have never seen before.

it says "Preloading gam resources".

It has started to happen most times that i play a level (by myself or with others).

I also get it when i enter create mode, and switch back and forth from create to play mode.

I also get sometimes when i restart a level that has already been loaded.

The screen is usually only up for a few seconds but it is annoying.

has anyone else been getting this screen?

I have also noticed that the little white sackboy down in the corner with the arrows around him has been present a lot more and stays a lot longer when he is there.

This is a very recent occurance.

I've noticed it happening also. It seems to mostly happen on levels that have a lot of things in them. I think it's better to have a loading screen like this than for the game to "hang" for a few seconds without anything happening.2009-06-22 14:09:00

Yeah it would be good to have the loading screen, but i feel the game loading significantly slower. As i mentioned i even get this screen on a restart at times. Testing my own level i will restart (playing alone) and about 50% of the time it is going to that screen before actually restarting.

I get this screen too, as far as I can remember it only started appearing around when Cornish Yarg was released...I could be wrong about that though.2009-06-22 14:37:00

I thought it was just because my PS3 room was 85 degrees and my PS3 was overheating. I guess it must have been an update released in a recent patch, but it doesn't really happen until I've been playing for a while.2009-06-22 15:04:00

Yeah, I've been seeing it frequently of late, too. I also have had several levels with no scores on the leaderboard - just a message saying "Uploading score..."2009-06-22 16:01:00

Same here.
This message (well, both "uploading score" and "preloading game ressources) appeared to me after 1.15 but only this weekend when the servers seemed slow. I don't know with you guys but by connection with LBP servers this week-end was really bad. I think it might be the cause.

my game froze on this screen once...
and yes, whenever I play a level it pops up, usually stays for 5 minutes

The servers have been acting up these past couple of weeks for me also. Since doing anything in LBP communicates with the server, I wouldn't be surprised that server lag causes the loading screen to stay longer.2009-06-22 16:29:00

I too have noticed this. I attributed it to my big profile but It's happening on my secondary account now and I don't have any levels on my moon or costumes.2009-06-22 18:07:00

These issues have affected me as well... It hasn't been since 'Yarg'... but more and more frequent it's becoming... even when entering my pod.2009-06-22 18:14:00

whats really been bothering me is it is happening when i alone am working on my moon. I dont see why the game needs to be constantly talking to the servers when i am creating or testing on my moon2009-06-22 18:27:00

Loading resources doesn't seem like it would have anything to do with the server. Try editing in create mode and going to play mode while not logged in, you will most likely have the same message. It's a loading issue, as its getting the games "resources" loaded in advance. I don't exactly know what the resources are, but they're most likely just textures, object data, etc.2009-06-22 18:34:00

I wonder how much it has to do with the on-line create beta ramping up. That's gotta be taking a toll on their servers.2009-06-22 22:03:00

But this doesn't have anything to do with the online, its a loading data from objects problem most likely.

I think it might have something to do with loading the material and such that you dont have. It also must have other reasons but i seem to get it a lot whever i play a level containing items or stickers i havent bought yet.2009-06-22 22:13:00

This was introduced into my game in cornish yarg

I think several feisty, in-growing, xenophobic, excitable, demented, insane, nonsensical, tyrannosauruses have eaten bags eleven times annoying...

Apparently.

That reminds me of my new level:

You should check it out sometime.

Its for reducing lag and enhancing the levels performance.
In other words, its to play better.
So its not a bad thing, its a good thing, and it was implemented from Cornish Yarg.
(I'm surprised none of you guys knew actually.)

That's too much assuming. It doesn't mean it's the case at all. That message could have been there since forever in case it takes time to achieve certain loadings or in the case of bad online performances. They might have some speed problems lately and this might cause us actually seeing the message.

Do you know there's also devellopement guidelines rules for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo console games that are saying that you need to put a moving image, a message explaining or whatever something that moves when a game hangs more than 3-5 seconds? That's why you always get a little logo turning, a loading bar, a message, etc during loading and hang times. It's a rule. Anyhow, my point is that there's too much possibilities for simply closing the case with you last affirmation.

I'm really curious to see if this will vanish during the week or disappear when the beta ends or something. I'm genuinely curious.

Oh I thought that's what we're talking about, that the loading screen came with Cornish Yarg..?

Anyway I don't know why people don't like the loading screen, as far as I can tell it doesn't actually take any more time than it used to.

I think it's because they lost their ritalin? Probs it just reminds you you are waiting. Before you had to realise you were waiting all by yourself, without being told, and that takes up some of the waiting time thinking. So before, it didn't feel like you were waiting as long 2009-06-23 12:30:00

Yeah I've got this a few times in the last week and it's happening to me now as well.

It's getting really annoying as I can see my friends are playing LBP atm and I can't

403 = HTTP Forbidden Error code. Normally means you are not allowed access to an online resource. Possibly a logging-in / authentication bug on the servers.... IDK2009-06-23 22:28:00

Yeah after the message comes up another message comes up saying "failed to sign in"
It's really annoying and it's only happened to me this last week.
And I was playing some levels online earlier and went off to do something and when I came back I had been signed out of the LBP servers and I can't sign back in atm (but am still signed in to PSN)
Tried turning off the PS3 a few times and still won't let me sign in to the LBP servers

Turning off the PS3 won't do anything as the 403 is a message you receive from the server, so it's almost certainly a problem their end. Not really much to suggest other than keep re-signing in.

Yeah, this is exactly what's happening to me. I've had a few problems before, but ever since this week, it's been getting worse and worse. It's really disappointing because I'm trying to give feedback for some levels, but I can't get at them. I was able to connect this morning, but now I can't at all. I hope this is temporary and they are just fiddling with the servers at the moment...

Edit: well, I as able to connect finally!

Yeah it's probably due to that pesky co-op create BETA atm.

Don't even want it to tell you the truth as I would want to create with anyone anyway as I'm to much of a perfectionist

Yeah, the servers have been really crappy lately. I believe this screen or delay has always been there, but it's the Cornish Yarg patch that added the "preloading game resources" screen message so people won't think the game is frozen. Sometimes the game would take so long to load things and be stuck in this limbo and I wouldn't know if I should shut off my PS3 or not. Occasionally this still happens, but not nearly as long. Whenever it happens for a long time like it did before the patch, I get the "preloading game resources" screen.

I doubt it's a coincidence that this is happening more often while the servers are messed up. It happens even on your moon and when you load your pod because it's accessing the internet for moderation checks. If the servers are slow then it's going to take longer to load things up as it struggles through all the mod checks.

Just saying to you this message certainly isn't there "to reduce lag and enhance performance" that's all. It's probably just a message that appears while the game hangs for to long. Then I explained why I'm making this hypothesis. Don't read us like angry people when we are not. If ever i'm ****** off with you, don't you worry it will show clear. lol

'Preloading game resources' means it's pulling from your hard drive, not the internet. Loading important resources from the internet would be a great way to double server costs. It's either a horribly crafted message or it has nothing to do with online.

I'm inclined to believe they changed the way things are loaded with Yarg, and that it now takes longer to load because it also does some optimization in there, but the game runs a little more consistently.

But yeah, as loius says, "preloading game resources" will meanmost likely from locally - all the resources you need are on your harddrive. I think I've seen the message when I'm not even logged into the servers.

lol, ok i believe you, don't have to get all angry, i was justsaying.
And it is what the screen is for, wether you believe me or not doesn't affect me at all, so i don't care.

@Louis:
I never said it reduced Online lag, i meant it reduced that other kind of lag, you know, the one like when you have a lot of stuff in one pace and such.

I agree with almost everyone else that online create mode is too riddled with potential problems to be efficient, but one nice thing about it is that you could teach someone else how to do things (logic gates for example). I just don't foresee 2 people (or 4 for that matter) being able to communicate well enough to not **** each other off constantly.2009-06-24 12:30:00

The only way I can see this working is if everyone in the room has a microphone and they don't act immature. Creating online requires a decent level of cooperation to it, or everything just falls apart. I can understand people getting together and seeing who could build the best vehicle or something though, because I do that locally with people and its a blast.

Also, does anyone know if the camera works the same way it does in local create mode, focusing on whatever the first player sets it to and leaving everyone to fend for themselves, or does each player on each system get to control their own camera, so they could be building somewhere else than a different person working with them?

no idea but i vote for the second one

Adding to that question can the level be saved to all parties moons or are you specifically creating on one moon?

I'm pretty sure the first time I got this message was at least two... maybe three weeks ago. I was in create mode and my thermo was getting pretty hot. When I went to switch to play mode to do some testing, this message came up and my machine froze up completely. It scared the begeezuz out of me, and I thought for sure I was going to have some massive fail with my machine. Luckily, everything saved up until that point though.

It's definitely new... and definitely annoying! But hey, if it's somehow beneficial to us then I can put up with it... not like I have a choice.
