Jon Burgerman Original Sticker Kit

Archive: 69 posts

Oooh look, the site?s covered in random things! Lovely, lovely random things. Today we?d like to announce the first of our sticker packs made in conjunction with famous artist type folks, and the first one will be…. the Picasso pack!

Ok, ya got me, it's the Jon Burgerman pack, 72 fabulous doodles from the world of Jon Burgerman, all packaged up and available for you to buy, and then graffiti all over the LittleBigPlanet.
This massive haul of sticker joy will be available on the store this week, and we?ll also be publishing an interview with the (Burger)man himself tomorrow, so sticker-round (lol geddit?) to hear his wise words!

But I'm sure I'll end up buying it again anyways. (sigh)

I guess if it's $1 or under $1, I will buy it.. though I can't really see myself using it much, but oh well, who knows. I just don't like how most of the stickers are go******** faces. I mean, there's almost NO use for those!!...2009-06-22 11:29:00

OH NO NOT AGAIN. Come on MM , we don't want another bunch of crappy stickers. They look awful. What possible use could anyone have for them.

Sort out the LAG and the BUGS first. It doesn't matter how many stickers I have if I can't play the **** game in the first place does it ??

I think the stickers look quite good, though tbh I can`t see me using any of them. If they come for a discount price (and they won`t if they got a guy in to do them) I might consider it, but this pack is looking like a 'no' for me.2009-06-22 13:23:00

Those stickers look kind of neat. They could make some really interesting faces for characters. Besides which, it seems there's a nice spread of colors on those stickers, and super-stretched stickers are the best way to obtain some good coloring in LBP. I might get this if it's not too expensive. I find that I often lack some sticker for coloring things from LBP's repertoire and have to change to a different color to have something that looks ok.2009-06-22 13:38:00

These look cool, but its just more of the same. I only use 1% of my current stickers.
We need more decorations instead.

Is it possible for people who don't have the pack to just take photos of the stickers in someone's level? I'm sure it would be.

^yep, I do it.
I take a picture, go to create mode, place a piece of cardboard and stick it on (thin layer)
then cut it out with the corner editing tool...

I'll get this is it's quite cheap, I wouldn't want to be paying more than about ?2

72 stickers is quite a lot though, and I love the style of them

You have to look closely, but there's a few in there that i could see myself using

It's a personal preference for sure... but I dont have any interest in this sort of DLC... this isn't for the creators... Mm is the dealer and they are now clearly just feeding the habit... *scratches at popit mindlessly* Get in line addicts, how I remember those DVD tuesdays... This is the week to kick the habit and still get my fix w/ the robed druid...

I need these stickers, like I need a hole in my head... of course, I had been planning that one hole golf course for sometime now...

Take the picture.

I won't get these.
Sure, I'll get the costume as it's free, but not these stickers.
I haven't bought the ICO pack either, because if Sony can't be bothered with the golf challenge, I can't be bothered with buying this stuff.

Some of you need to lighten up. It didn't take MM years to make this, all they did was get the ALREADY MADE stickers, and get them into the game. It's not as if they could fix any bugs with the time it took them to make this pack.

These stickers look great and cute, don't go shouting at the artist just because MM hasn't made a costume pack for FF.

I'm definitely detting this pack. I love stickers. I also can't wait for the other packs, as I would have stickers over costumes anyday.

I think they're cool. Everyone has a different style and a different personality to their creations, so what might be useless for one person, might be very useful for another. Just like one artist might fork out hundreds for oil paint, whereas another might hate the texture of oil paint and rather spend his/her money on spray-paint.
Besides, I like the idea of getting more creatives involved with LBP, the more variation and influences, the better.

i can agree with that, just not being charged for JUST stickers alone, maybe decorations too would of been nice, especially if they looked like the stickers that would be great but its just stickers. not worth my hard earned money

I don't really see why someone would spend money on a costume or decorations but then say that charging money for stickers isn't worth it

I think you should judge something on it's usefulness and not on whether it's 3D or not

I'm not against this sort of DLC for what it is. I totally agree that people have different tastes, which is the way it should be.

What I am against is the fact that MM ( no doubt under orders from Sony ) keep churning this stuff out on a regular basis before they've sorted out the bigger issues that have been with us since launch day.

If they just made some sort of effort at least to cure the server , connection , and lag issues along with all the horrendous bugs that totally ruin the game for me and many others then I wouldn't have the slightest problem with stuff like this.

I would say keep it coming , the more the merrier.

I'll say it again and keep saying it until something happens. I want the BIG PROBLEMS sorting out first. Is that too much to ask ???

But they are sorting out a load of big problems

You should see all of the fixes they've made in the beta so far, and this is only round 1!

These stickers and costumes are just something to keep us occupied while they're busy working on bug fixes and new features
If they went months without releasing anything but new features and fixes we'd be complaining that there isn't enough content

I personally think they are quite cool and I would use these over some of the game specific rubbish we usually get.
I mean come on, unless your actually making a level remake of the specific game pack the usual DLC comes with (which will probably get moderated anyway) then the stickers we normally get are useless.

But I like the look of these for once.
BUT........
What we really need is like 256 solid colours and more USABLE stuff.

I hear you man, I really do.

BUT
As cog earlier said. It probably took one team member like 5 mins to upload these to the server. AND this person probably wouldn't have a clue to sort out these problems you speak of.
I'm sure the right team members are working towards lowering the lag and fixing the bugs. But in the 5 mins that the person took to add these new stickers to the game they couldn't of really done anything more constructive with that time.

This is really annoying.

Media Molecule releasing fluff and smoke. Is that really your marketing plan? You truly think it will add legs to your game and boost its sales to have celebrity X an Y doing useless stuff for or around the game?

How come we have this useless patch stupid show before we get that online website promoting our work and levels?

How we receive tons of useless stickers instead of stuff that WOULD PUSH AND NOURRISH CREATIVITY?

This should be the basis of their marketing. Promoting PLAYERS AND THEIR WORK + opening up creativity, encouraging great content to be made. The real legs of LBP is USER CREATIONS at this point in time and nothing else. By encouraging great content to be made by selling us USEFUL stickers would make so there's more original and good levels on the servers incitting people to create more and play more. If it's all fluff and H4H or really cheap levels, slowly but surely you will tire EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.

LittleBigPlanet is already performing good but there's so much potential and $$$$ lost in there I don't know where to begin. It always makes me wonder if Media Molecule truly understand their own product and how they could help it have legs so they make more cash with it for a longer time. It's ridiculous.

Stop making useless stickers. Just stop. It's not just this pack here, i'm exasperated here because everytime there's new stickers it's that kind of useless stuff. ****, you can't even cover basic shapes, lines and colors? What in the hell? I need explanations.

Ranger why are you getting so worked up over a sticker pack

Mm are doing plenty to improve the game at the moment, and they'll continue improving it in the future.

They have the beta running at the moment, they're trying to improve the servers, they have a handful of new features..
And don't forget they're working on that level portal thing that lets people play and advertise their levels a lot more easily just by linking to a website.

So what if their costumes and stickers aren't entirely useful, if they weren't there we'd be complaining about the lack of content.
And artists in the Mm team need work to do, they can't just sit around and wait for the programmers to do their part in improving the game - they'd be bored to death

At least remember that they can design costumes AND work on fixing the bugs at the same time. Mm is a team, it's not just one guy!

To all of you complaining to Mm, with all due respect, shut up already!

Sheesh, you're so annoying. >_>

Look let me put it to you this way, these things are just small "snacks" so just like dexiro said players don't start complaining about no new contnet.

Also, keep in mind they can't make stuff like the MGS pack whenever they want, it takes time and effort, believe me, the wait for the good stuff is better, unless of course you want them to release a bunch of crappy Medium/Large packs.

They can't just say, oh lets make a bunch large packs and bam they appear...
They are concentrating on fixing the game, but they can't fix the game, make constant awesome DLC + all the other stuff they need to do, right now they got their hands full with the online create BETA.

What i'm trying to say here is that making good contnent is difficult, and just because the players are asking for it it doesn't mean they'll be able to do it right away.
So chill out people and cut MM some slack already!

Quick question are these for next week only or are they "sticking around"?
sorry couldnt help it

as for the whole MM bit yeah i might see myself getting these, maybe, it all depends on how much they cost
though as i look at them it seems unlikely as i cant see my self using them unless i make a level specifically to use them

You're partially missing the point. I'm not complaining only about Jon's pack but complaining that we NEVER get good useful stickers. It's always fluff and whatnot.

Having useful sticker could improve creativity and visual diversity ENORMOUSLY. That's what people don't get. It might even be more useful than material. I'm sorry most people don't see this potential.

Let me remind you what people can do with properly thought out stickers:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1420/541554282_c59d587a8b_o.jpg

This is just an example of what can happen when you decorate something with properly thought out stickers. Those cars there? This is only basic shapes and colors assembled. It just goes to show where people can bring creativity with the proper tools.

Just having stickers covering basic shapes, lines types and some 64 colors palette would already let people personalise their level's look SO MUCH you would automatically recognise old level after that patch, i swear.

How hard is it to make use those USEFUL stickers? Even more easier than all the stickers you got so far since last October. And as you said, this would give LBP artists some little work anyways.

Also, I love LBP and I would love this game to last for long. It pains me to see a dev sleeping at the wheel of the potential's supercar.

Couldn't agree with Ranger anymore on this... the sticker pack is fine... a little obnoxious in colour and spirit...(but that's just me) Heck, I may even buy it cause I'm a sucker! But Mm said it best in the first post... (these are not particularly for tooling Ranger) - these stickers equal 'graffiti' (their word) and not much more. Still it's fine...

They play perfectly into the hands of little kids who are not furthering the future of LBP in any way particular... and that's still fine... How long do you think it will be until we have collectable stickers? limited edition stickers? Die cut embossed stickers? Holographic Stickers? And it's still all fine... They're a weekly fix of junk upon a 1/2 of year of junk.

I got stickers on my stickers and I will be shocked if I ever use most... Mm is squandering an important time where they could nurture the creator and in return nurture the community, and their baby... what goes around comes around you know?

Texture, colors, (ever hear of zipotones?) someone get the zip-o-tone people on the phone... And I will get you a custom creator pack that will sell like hotcakes... Zips are varying degrees of shading density/ patterns to create a uniform effect... most often used in comics, in particular B&W comics like cerebus say or Manga... Very much like the scribble/hatching/etc. only much more involved. Here's an example of zips. Most of the shading on these pages are very simple zips I added.

Because, believe it or not, Mm needs to earn a profit. Creative tools don't earn Mm money - it's "useless" DLC like this that keeps the financial wheels turning. If you don't want to buy the pack, don't buy it, but don't complain that they're not doing enough to "nourish creativity" when they've got their hands full with the Online Create beta, the level sharing hub/API, the upcoming R&C content, and plenty more that they haven't announced yet.

To all of you complaining to Mm, with all due respect, shut up already!

Sheesh, you're so annoying. >_>

This is an open forum. To be frank... you are one of the harshest people here on the forum who is constantly writing things that come off condescending or just flat out rude. Still... we don't tell you to shut up, even though I wouldn't doubt many here would like to. Know why? Because we allow others to voice their opinions and express their thoughts without fear of being attacked or insulted or talked down to. You dare to use the term "with all due respect" when you clearly have none? Pshh... puh-lease. That would be like me finishing this post by saying "Please don't take this personally".

To tell some of us to shut up and that we are annoying is simply uncalled for, and shows a complete lack of respect for other members' opinions and contributions to this forum. We all have our days now and then and I'm certainly guilty of coming off a little harsh (I had a moment I wasn't proud of myself about a month ago), but I think it's high time someone told you this, as it's beginning to get out of hand as of late.

Oh... and don't go telling me I should have PM'd you about this either. Your statement is very public... so I'm responding accordingly. Also, don't PM me with any assumptions that it is I who leave some comment on your profile if it shows up like it did the last time after you displayed uncalled for remarks. As I told you before, I am a man and will tell it like it is without having to hide my identity, just as I am doing now.

Personally I think the mods ought to slap your hand for this... but I guess that will be a decision they have to make.

To get back on topic.... I think Mm would better serve their loyal fans and creators to have 3D artists come up with some decorations to add to these packs at the very least. The common thread I see running through all... uhh... threads... pertaining to new DLC is the complaints about lame stickers that are useless to us. You can't honestly think that Mm don't see this negative feedback with regards to stickers. But seemingly, that is not a concern of theirs as they continue to release more stickers that are generally useless to most serious creators. I think they would do well to include more decorations than stickers in the future, as there seems to be a higher demand and use for that type of DLC than what we have seen here in this offering and most DLC of the past.

I understand what you're saying Rust, but to be fair Silver did have a point and Mm are really busy at the moment

I just hate to see people getting all angry at each other, i've always known this forum to be really friendly

If you don't agree with someone try to see both sides of the argument and balance it out,
and if you don't agree with how someone expresses their opinion resolve it calmly with a PM or something

Don't worry, i don't.

Look, its cool if you disagree with some of my comments, but for some readon i get the impression that you got something against me.
Maybe i insulted you by accident, or maybe said something i didn't know i shouldn't, who knows, but you should really calm down.
The reason say to send me a PM or to take discussions to the user's profile is just so the thread isn't derailed and all that. (Not to mention many really don't care for the disscussions of others)
So are you saying trying to follow the rules by keeping the thread in place is wrong?

And by some of your comments towards me it appears you think you're "superior to me" for some reason, like you have the ability to put me down/ insult me if you want, why is that?

Look, if i cross the line with a user he/she will tell me so and we will settle things, so there's no need for you to say all those bad things about me ok?

Look, its cool if you disagree with some of my comments,//Telling a majority of posters in a thread to shut-up is not a comment one should have to agree or disagree with

So are you saying trying to follow the rules by keeping the thread in place is wrong? Of course not, but differing opinions need a voice as well. I'm sure there are rules here dealing with civility and respect as well, sweeping bad behaviour under a pm rug is just that ... hiding it.

And by some of your comments towards me it appears you think you're "superior to me" for some reason, like you have the ability to put me down/ insult me if you want, why is that? I love the fact, that you know where you stand, issues are often B&W for you. So it's surprising to me that this was written by you and not about you. You just told a threadful of people to shut-up because they annoyed you!?!

Look, if i cross the line with a user he/she will tell me so and we will settle things, so there's no need for you to say all those bad things about me ok?This wasn't a user... it was an entire thread. I consider us more than acquaintances, and I felt insulted...

For those who are curious, that comes out to around $0.0276 or ?0.022 per sticker. This is probably the lowest price DLC stickers have gone for, correct me if I'm wrong.

I wonder if the stickers actually come with the faces or if the nose/mouth/eyes came separately?
Anyone here knows?

I think we all need to bare in mind that this will be the first of many artist specific sticker packs, and although not everyone will use them some people might use them to good effect.

If the packs are priced right I don't see the harm in releasing them at the end of the day people that want them will pay for them.

but I really agree with the guys saying that we need more stuff.

MM should pull together a creator kit 3 including:
:star: Basic stickers like letters, colour blocks, more gradients, different face and body parts.
:star: couple of materials: invisible material, some different polystyrenes and rubbers.
:star: decorations, becuase we all know those are much more useful than stickers, maybe even make some existing stickers into decorations.
:star: some music and sound items

pull a kit together like that with basic useful materials for creators and you give them a lot of potential and I think I'd pay ?5-?10 for them.

and once they've done with all the artist specific sticker packs I think they should release some place/theme specific packs with stickers and decorations, like:
haunted house
dungeon
beach
forest
etc etc.

The interview with the artist changed my mind on this topic.
I might buy them (after I see a display level of course).

Actually I understand what you're saying but you're also talking about something else then me. Of course MM need money and they made some money with every single DLC they did release and this includes the creator pack, the monsters pack and MGS pack.
Media Molecule can release as many junk as they want only if they keep the interest also by releasing useful things from time to time. Let's face it, we didn't receive any useful sticker EVER. Ever ever ever. Is that normal? Can't they throw us a bone from time to time?
I mean, they release junk every week, we aren't in a situation where they need to release junk because there's too many useful updates that didn't made enough cash. They make cash right now and if they want to continue making so, they need to feed the community of useful stuff.

If they sell only junk and the community slows down because creativity is slowing down, they will make less and less money with the junk down to the point where there won't be money left to be made. At that point they will stop making DLC and move on another project.

Now me, I want this last longer and want Media Molecule to make more cash so I hope they can understand and move on into some 80/20 ratio of junk over good stuff instead of the present 95/5.

Lastly, I don't care about this particular pack, I don't know why you explain to me how to make purchases, I know how to do it already. It's beside the point anyways because I'm not complaining about this pack.

I also make constant use of the stickers from the MGS pack, and am starting to use the ones from the monster pack. I still always find myself wishing for some particular stickers though, specially character mouths and eyes, as well as stickers with particular color hues.

YES! I hate when I can't find a sticker in the color I want. I was trying to make a a figurine that needed a skin tone, and I had to blow up the Otacon sticker from the MGS pack, as he has skin-tone in the center of the sticker... There are other times where I can't even get the color I want.

at ?1.59 I'll buy them. I fully expected them to be ?5 or so since the money was going between Mm, sony and the artist.2009-06-24 11:33:00

If you search for something like "Free Colours" or something you will find multiple levels which give away many different colours.

I haven't heard anything like this, but I can see how it'd be a problem. Can anyone confirm this?

I just tested this. If there is a difference, it doesn't show up when using 12 custom stickers vs 12 regular ones. I had always assumed they took up more room because they were custom content. I think I will go look for that level now.

They're fairly cheap, and there's some scenic ones in there alongside the facial ones.... if there are more eyes, noses etc it could be handy. 72 stickers is a good amount, I'm sold. They're pretty stylised though, which is no bad thing, it just limits their use somewhat.

The sticker section in my Popit however is starting to look a little immense and a bit time consuming to scroll through. A sub category section within 'Stickers' might be a good idea fairly soon.

I think its time to start using that "hearted items" on the stickers. I only every use about 10% of the stickers I have anyway so this could be a good way to find the ones you like easier?

Yeah i made a thread in suggestions about that, i think every section of the pop-it is going to need sub-categories

Or even if we could have the choice to permanently delete most of the stickers we don't want... which is most of them.

Hell this is a blow for me cos i dont even use stickers

i use the occasional colour and rust mark but thats it. You know what would be super awesome?

If MM made more single player levels, that would be sweet. I love playing through their profesionnal levels all the time, solo and with friends. And more curators would be great! (does want more gardens levels :3)

For anyone who was curious about the pack -

15ish complete characters
10ish separate limbs
20ish facial features
10ish scenic - trees, bushes, a carrot (?)
20ish random including bolt of lightning, ice cream, traffic cone and a hot dog.

Well even though I had a right moan about crappy stickers coming again I have to admit I bought them anyway.

Mainly because they were on there at the same time as the Druid costume ( very clever strategy there by MM to put them on together ).

Anyway when I got the costume and saw the sticker set was only ?1.59 I thought 'what the hell that's a bargain'. Even though I probably won't use many they may come in useful for the colour variations and stuff like that.

I must admit too that the names of some of the stickers are very funny , better than the actual stickers infact, so it was worth the price just for a laugh.

And if my small contribution for something I didn't really want helps MM bring out more stuff in future that might be what I want then so much the better.

The only downer was NO decorations at all. It would have been nice to have at least 1 new decoration. Still never mind , maybe next time ??

That's very true for me too, I couldn't ask enough for seperate facial pieces, you can make such varied looking characters with the right pieces!

I know it's hard not having the right colour, but have any of you taken the stickers of story characters... ou'd be amazed how Mm put them together! Red Tape for red robes on the king, his crown is made of lemons (lol) and there's even what appears to be a grey PS camera looking shot to make the base of the Monkey's skin in Savanna!

If you search for something like "Free Colours" or something you will find multiple levels which give away many different colours.

That's awesome, ans seriously, if you're looking to have a specific colour, purchasing a PS Eye is a great solution. I admit I don't use it often, but I like it alot and have used it for fun things as well as chatting on PSN. I've never once regretted buying it and it would automatically solve any problems of not finding the right colours!

Or even if we could have the choice to permanently delete most of the stickers we don't want... which is most of them.

THAT would be great... I thought of this once, and the best would be to be able to remove them from our pop-it and if we realise one day we REALLY REALLY want it back, go back and get it from the story level we found it in!
