Bicycle in the Night *name subject to change*

Wow. I feel so nervous.
I'm about to start my first level that I'll actually have some time to spend on. And I think I have a really neat idea.

I'm not really sure how much I need to start a thread in this section, but I guess I'll give a brief description of what I plan on doing.

I hope to make this level visually stunning, and reasonably storydriven. However, unlike many other story levels which are interrupted by mounds of text (not always a bad thing, but not my style), I hope to convey emotion and story through visuals and integrated text (ie text scrolling by as you move).

I plan to create my own background, and the gameplay will essentially take place on just one layer. I hope to use the other thick and thin layers to try some interesting visual ideas I have that will require a couple layers by themselves to create.

Some interesting ideas that I plan to employ:

1) Animation. I have a neat plan for animation that shouldn't be too thermo-heavy and is reasonably simple.

2) Vehicle that hovers and is controlled simply by jumping and moving.

3) Custom music.

I don't really want to spoil anything, because once I'm all done what I hope is that the player will be entranced by what unfolds. It's going to have a very magical and cinematic feel to it.

Anyways, I hope I can pull it off. I have some really neat ideas I think, that shouldn't be overly complicated. I think the hardest part for me will be to create the stunning visuals that I have in my mind. I'm no artist but I think I do have a very good feel for art and design, so I think I'll be able to do it.

Anyways, I hope I got at least one person remotely excited. I really hope I can turn this into a gem of a level

shouldn't be nervous

this sounds like a wonderfull sounding level

the backround animation bit sounds interesting and id like to see how you pull it off

as for the hover vehicle it sounds sort of like this thing i made a while back. it was a circle of orange floaty that was just the right size for a single person, if you jumped you went up and if you did nothing you slowly floated down and you could run from side to side jumping in either direction, it used nothing but orange floaty and actually worked pretty well

some pretty good custom music has been done before and always add a good atmosphere to any level

im at least one person and im more than remotely excited

Yay! I just hope I don't fail horribly

But yeah, I've made a hover kinda thing before like this, and it worked pretty well. This one will be a bit different because I'm going to hide the pink floaty (just one reason why I'm going to need the back layers for other stuff), so that I can make the vehicle very graphically clean.
I don't want to say what vehicle it is though, because it would spoil it a bit. But it's not a other-worldly vehicle like a spaceship or anything. In fact, it's not a vehicle you'd expect to fly at all, unless you've seen a certain movie which this level is greatly inspired by...

I'm actually very excited to see what you will make as well. The animation thing sounds cool and interesting. I'm also interested to see how your level will look since you will only use one layer for gameplay and the rest for visuals. How long do you expect to take on the level?

Edit: Just read your post above mine and I'm 99.99999% sure I know what movie you mean I won't say anything though.

Haha, pm me if you want to see if you're right

I'm guessing it will take me three to four weeks, but I really have no idea. It could take me less, or more, depending partly on how much time I really have, and how many major obstacles I run into...

As for the one layer, I think it will work with my level. The visuals I think will add a lot - I plan to make the level feel very alive and vibrant although it will be in a nighttime setting, with things moving in the background and such.
