Story level edit mode
Archive: 17 posts
You should be able to go into edit mode with the story levels. This means that you could see how everything works such as mechanics and the logic for the collecter boss and the metal gear boss. This would be great for helping people out with there own levels. However you should not be able to publish the levels to stop noobs getting loads of hearts from people who havent played the story mode yet. | 2009-06-20 12:52:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |
I thought you could do this when I first saw the templates. I wanted to change the timing/tricks in the level to mess everyone up and have them do the opposite. But it probably won't happen because of that point you made. :/ | 2009-06-20 14:43:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Yeah that's a really good idea, and you should only be able to unlock the edit mode on those after you get 100% on the story level mode, so you have to work for the treat of knowing how they made 'em | 2009-06-28 16:05:00 Author: GrahamLif3 Posts: 386 |
Well, if you want to look at the logic for The Collector Boss, he is an object you acquire by beating the level, though I'm not exactly sure if you have to 100% or Ace it or not, because I just checked my inventory and found it under Dangerous Enemies. | 2009-06-28 16:44:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Nice idea. It'd be fun to mess around with the level mechanics and it would be good for beginner creators to learn skills at creating. | 2009-06-28 16:51:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
I'd like to see a lot more options for level and object shareability, including the option to make a level copyable, but not republishable. In addition, you would not be able to capture anything to move it to a different level. I think it would open up the community more because people could show others the inner workings of their levels without fear of being ripped off. It would literally be a level that you can take apart on your moon and that's all you could do. If MM implemented this for community levels, thne the story levels could be shared in such a way as well. I still wanna know how the magician "teleports" you (I think I know, but I'd love to look and see if I'm right!) | 2009-06-28 16:56:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I still wanna know how the magician "teleports" you (I think I know, but I'd love to look and see if I'm right!) In which part of what level does this happen? It sounds interesting, but I'm drawing a blank as to where this happens, most likely because I played story mode back in October. | 2009-06-28 17:09:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
At the end of "The Great Magician's Palace" he teleports you to the tundra. I just played it now and as it turns out it's just a thin layer of dissolve that's been stickered up. This gets disolved and there is another scene hiddne behind it. It's a bit disappointing noticing that now because I thought it was a demitter-based feature. After all, the magician is supposed to be a "master of emitters"... I don't think I'd benefit much from pulling apart story mode, but I think I would have really appreciated it back when I was starting out. | 2009-06-28 17:25:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

That's what I figured you meant, but yes, it is just a simple dissolve trick. | 2009-06-28 17:40:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Of course if I'd have had story level edit mode, I would never have got it into my head that this was some crazy convoluted trick and thus I'd never have invented demitters! Therefore this is a bad idea! j/k. | 2009-06-28 17:50:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I also think this would be very helpful. There have been multiple times where i wanted to kno how they did something | 2009-06-28 18:59:00 Author: Sonic5411 Posts: 712 |
Yeah.... It's a good idea and I thought it was supposed to come with the game at the start... As with the teleportation in the magicians Palace, You could just use the sticker removal tool to find out... | 2009-06-28 19:31:00 Author: FlameAtNight Posts: 405 |
hmmmnn i reli wanna know how Mm did the metal gear ray (or rex - one of the three) It would also be great to know how they did most of the boss battles like the Mags the Mechanic one. | 2009-06-28 20:03:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |

The current system is ridiculous. Other than ripping off other peoples work, I don't really see what purpose making copies publishable has. I'd love to let people fly around my levels in edit mode, I really hope it gets implemented. | 2009-06-28 21:50:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |

Maybe MM naively thought that people would actually respect each other... The main practical use of copyable levels is to give away items that you want people to be able to edit. But then my overhaul of the sharing would alow for objects to have varying levels of editability and shareability, which would be great | 2009-06-28 22:38:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
This point has probably been made already but wouldn't this just show you where all the prizes were? Maybe once you have 100%'ed the level you unlock it, yeh that would work! | 2009-07-03 20:49:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
Well there are already thousands of guides around the web telling where the prize bubbles are. So theres nothing stopping you from looking at them. Only downside is.... what would the MM team think? Their creators too, and you probably don't want some random player fiddliering with your work (unless you made it copyable) Also even if you can't publish it, you still can capture them into objects. It wouldn't surprise me if i see a whole level just filled with LBP Story mode bosses..... *shiver* (I got to admit, i sometimes capture scenory in the templates into objects for my levels... but only scenory! everything else is original!) But a video made by MM would be nice, like that "Life in Littlebigplanet" promotional video. That was fun, wish they could make one explaing each level or somthing. | 2009-07-04 06:52:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |
