Need help creating a Working 4x4 with suspension please!
Archive: 11 posts
Hey guys, I was wondering if anbody could give me a few tips on creating a working 4x4 with suspension? Everything i seem to try just fails me. Either my bolts don't work or my suspension simply gives up or result's in my tyres not being able to move the car, they simply just sit on the floor and stretch the springs etc. Any ideas? | 2009-06-19 13:32:00 Author: Arikardo Posts: 158 |
I've got the same problem with bilding my military hummer. Help! | 2009-06-20 19:21:00 Author: Stewie187 Posts: 1 |
hmmm. could you maybe attach the axles to the main body via (not stiff) rods, and then attach the springs as well? You'd have to have the rods attach to the center of the undercarriage I guess. Tough to explain without drawing it.... | 2009-06-20 20:02:00 Author: ZipCity Posts: 208 |
Zipcity had the same thought I did. Stiff rods, with 0 strength. then attach springs beside it. I'm curious now to see if it'll work... I'll boot up LBP when my roommates done with the tv. Edit: See below for working model without stiff rods. | 2009-06-20 20:41:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
well, if your bolts are just connecting one material to another, and dont have anything to do with the car working (other than holding it together), id suggest gluing instead of bolting. this is from the "Little things/tricks some don't know." topic, in the tutorials section: Added on 5.17-Glue things that are in different layers (Submitted by Killian): One useful thing that many don't know is that you can glue objects that are on different layers. If you have an object behind a layer that you want to glue to a layer in front of it, hold L1 and then hold X to glue it. If you have an object in front of a layer that you want to glue to a layer in back, hold R1 and then hold X to glue it. i normally have trouble when making cars/trucks as well. the motor bolts always end up being stronger than the strongest bolts, and move what the bolts are holding together. learning this trick prevents that. a ton. its also very useful for machines/NPC's. good luck! | 2009-06-20 21:36:00 Author: gofurr360z Posts: 886 |
I tried to make a working suspension system for you, and I see what you mean about it all falling apart. I had to think outside the box, but I got a working model for you. Here's a youtube video of it (sorry about the quality): YouTube - Working Suspension The key is a pivot point in the middle - I did it with glass and a round point of metal and it seemed to work the best. Attached above each of the wheels is a spring, and there is a piece of string connected to each of the end to prevent it from extending too far. It seems pretty stable, but you'd obviously need to tweak it to work for what it is intended for. If you add me on PSN and leave a message about who you are, I can send you the object if you'd like. You'd obviously not be able to take it apart, but you could copy it... Edit: You'd obviously want to clean it up... | 2009-06-20 21:46:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Hey, thanks gofurr360z. It's actually a lot more fun to make these little obstacles and play around with it than it should be, lol. | 2009-06-20 23:04:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Hey, thanks gofurr360z. It's actually a lot more fun to make these little obstacles and play around with it than it should be, lol. yeah, it is XD i actually have a level slot reserved for just messing around with create mode. unfortunately, when i take things to the workshop (what i call the level) to test them out for my actual levels... lets just say i dont get much work done. :] | 2009-06-21 19:34:00 Author: gofurr360z Posts: 886 |
