AAAlone's Haiku Review
Archive: 32 posts
>> Edited to compile Haiku to-date in first post<< I've been sitting on this idea for a while, but I think it's time... I want to recognize some of the levels I've been playing, but don't have a lot of time to write lengthy reviews (during my coffee breaks ). What I can commit to is 17 syllables per review. That's right I'll review levels within a single haiku. Haiku (for those unaware) is a classic form of Japanese poetry. Though not typically a rhymed verse, the structure is defined by the cadence of syllables- 5 in the first line, 7 in the second, and 5 again in the third and final line. Got it? Good. That's great AAAlone (you loony), but how can I request a review? I'm sorry but you can't. It's not that I don't want to review all your levels, it's just that I am a guilt junky. If I receive a request and don't get to it in a timely fashion, then I'll feel guilty about it and I don't need that. So how are you gonna decide what to haiku-review then? I'm just working through authors that I've been chatting with, levels that I stumble across, recommendations in other posts, spotlighted levels, etc. In other words, I'll just review the levels that I'm playing anyway. Hey, I thought I was your friend? Why haven't you reviewed my level? C’mon ! What did I just say about guilt? Honestly though, I am your friend. I'm not intentionally leaving anybody out. But I'm starting right.... wait for it... NOW. I'm sure I'll get to your level before too long. Just hang in there. (And besides, once you read some of my lame verse, I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a somewhat dubious honor.) So let's begin. Moving Parts by Gordy 2007 Dang! That’s my level! What the??? I love this. Great lyrical work, there. Edit: I wish I could work that response into a haiku, but alas, I am lazy. | 2009-06-19 01:15:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Resounding effects, That will surely enlighten Minds of young and old! I'll visit this thread, In hours with darkness looming, As reviews unfold. A very clever idea AAAlone, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you break down levels in this manner. Rick | 2009-06-19 20:08:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |

Brilliantly clever This thread of yours is epic I'll check back later I feel so creative now Sorry Morgana but that first line has six syllables in. | 2009-06-22 12:54:00 Author: robotiod Posts: 2662 |
Sorry Morgana but that first line has six syllables in. Brilliantly clever? has six syllables? I think you need a new abacus. | 2009-06-22 13:25:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
^^^^^^ bril-i-ant-ly cle-ver (this is 6) | 2009-06-22 16:46:00 Author: mindphaser74 Posts: 349 |
Depends on how you say it. Us Americans pronounce it: bril?liant?ly, where the middle "liant" sounds like "yint" | 2009-06-22 16:52:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
brill iant ly cle var = 5 in my world. Chalk it up to the midwestern accent. | 2009-06-22 18:01:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Now, now, let's not get hung up on how many sylables are in this or that word. Everyone has a slightly different cadence to their speech. Why, my uncle Zeek pronounces "pen" as if it has two syllables-- Pai-n. Just a couple more review today (crazy in the office today): Assignment Housework by Brnxblze Gotta do my chores? Aw Mom! Hi all, You've not been abandoned, I've just been very very busy lately. So busy in fact that I've only got one haiku to add today. With any luck I'll be back in full form next week. For now... The Great Escape from Alcatraz, by AceStryker I always knew it! Mutant Crocs in the sewers! A great first level | 2009-07-02 18:48:00 Author: AAAlone Posts: 71 |

OK AAAlone. We'll forgive you this time. But keep in mind you've got us "Hooked On Haiku" (a supplementary lesson of the "Hooked On Phonics" series), so please keep them coming. Rick | 2009-07-04 06:54:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |
Hi all. I'm finally back from vacation and getting on top of work issues. I've even manged to squeeze in some LBP and bake up a new batch of haiku (careful they're still hot!). I have a bit more travel coming up so may be spotting over the next month, but there are always more user generated levels, so there will always be more haiku. >>note: I'm editing the initial post to include all new haiku<< Tiger Woods Mini-Golf by CuzFeeshe Oops! Missed the windmill. Dang! That sphinx is hard to hit! Best golf game out there. Chromastone Chronicles Parts 1-4 by Morgana25 I am the ?hemmed hero? who recovered all four stones! Man, it must be tricky trying to get these things to fit into 17 syllables. I'm impressed. | 2009-07-16 19:55:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

So here's my problem. While I'm at the office (and the boss isn't looking) I jot down a few levels that I'll play at home once the kids are asleep (I try to keep a running list). But I forget to bring the note home and don't get to it. Then I finally take the list home, and play... jot down some notes for my haiku review and then I forget to bring the note to work so I can publish the reviews (again while the boss isn't looking). I suppose I should just log on and post from home, but... well I'm a complicated guy. In any case I finally completed a the circle for a few more haiku. Enjoy! The Tribe by Phife211 So enjoyable! Subterranean puzzles and a cool end boss. Zilla's Neighborhood 2 by Godzillionaire Game play is okay, but the atmosphere is great! very spooky woods. Lone Ninja (series 1-4) by Coyote_blue Hiyaaa! Ya! Take that! Grappling hook and katana! I am a ninja! Robot Town 2 by Jump_Button 10 LOAD 'Robot Town' 20 EXECUTE 'Have Fun' 30 GOTO 10 Uh oh! Here comes the boss! I'd better get back to work! | 2009-07-24 18:16:00 Author: AAAlone Posts: 71 |
Another great list! Problem, though... I tried entering the "Robot Town 2" code, but realized I don't have my version of DOS with gwbasic, so it doesn't work. The .NET framework Visual Basic doesn't contain the keyword "Goto" anymore. Well, guess I'll have to "Have Fun" some other night.... | 2009-07-27 02:31:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

Just a quick post to demonstrat that I'm still alive. Have been avoiding LBP lately because I'm completely blocked in creation of Moving Parts 2, and can't stand to see it stagnating. May be over the hump now... hopefully... Anyway, I've got one new haiku today (added to first post as well).
