7. Blue

Archive: 4 posts

Here's the first level I've made in awhile. Mostly fiddling around with the new environmental tweaks and trying out some old ideas I never got around to... Sort of a rush job, so if you see anything that could use some fixing/improving... let me know.

It's a series of rooms with odd platforming and puzzle challenges. You'll never guess what the theme is...

Level Name: Blue
Location: West Coast USA

For now, willing to do up at least one review a day in return. Be sure to message me to let me know what you want reviewed.

Wow, really moody and atmospheric! The level description in particular really got my attention, and the combination of music and blue lighting was really intriguing.

The gameplay though was a bit frustrating. In between moments of genius (like the use of 2-way switches to make a staircase!) were parts that ranged from too confusing (where it felt like I was proceeding through trial and error rather than "solving" the level) to parts that just made me feel masochistic for trying to get past them (like the 2nd area where it felt impossible to climb up to the next glass ledge...it was too high, and it felt like I tried about 50 times to get up there, or the glass bit with the electrified floor where I just died over and over and over again).

The other part I had trouble with was the series of three buttons stacked vertically that all had to be pressed to open the door, for some reason the buttons were really difficult to press, it was something to do with the layers I think. I think a different kind of switch would be better for that part, maybe a 2 way switch?

Anyway, overall it was definitely one of the moodiest and most original levels I've ever played, but there were times where I was tearing my hair out with frustration and if I hadn't been reviewing it, I would have been tempted to quit. At the end I lost all of my lives in the creature brain section and couldn't play through everything again, but the atmosphere definitely makes me want to go back and have another try again sometime..

cheesy, thanks so much for taking the time to play through my level. 1st off, if you want to take another swing at the boss without playing through the whole level, drop onto the ledge to your left when you first start. use the sticker you get at the end of the level and it will move a platform that lets you jetpack straight to the boss.

the second area with the glass ledge is one of the first things i thought up. it came to me when building another level. i always have fun trying to figure the appropriate height for jumps, and i wanted that room to test people's jumping ability. I guess I've taken that room's difficulty for granted with how many times I went through it during testing. if it remains a problem, i'll probably adjust it a bit.

That glass room with the 3 press switches and the electric floor is a pain in the ***. It'll probably be revised during my first round of edits.

Sorry for going overkill with the difficulty. I always sort of pictured my levels being played in a progression, and those who are used to my levels might have had an easier time seeing what might not have made sense to most.

glad you liked the mood and look of the level. also, greatest avatar ever. I'll get to one of you levels as soon as i can. if you really, really liked my level, be sure and tell your friends!
