If you plan on pitching ANYTHING you better get some good grammar.

Sorry if I'm being rude but you have to learn :/

Hey nothing's stopping you

And you didn't really leave much room for discussion, so isn't this more of a blog entry type of thing?

Oh and feel free to give us the details on your concepts so i can have fun picking holes in them!

Cool, tho i wouldn't reccomend writting your ideas out in the open, too many people redaing them, you knever know who'll be reading them, remember that some people can't come up with ideas of their own so they have to use someone elses...
Just saying so you'll be careful.

ninga kinma
well to be onest its just a through together of what made all the ninga games grate.
your a ninga with enhanced super abilitys givan but your mentor befor he is murrderd.the game takes you all over japan searching for who killed your master.
this story takes place in a newer age japan around the year 2000 basicly making you an urban ninga.
for moves you get the full gamit. katanas nunchuks throwing stars and many other types of weponry. u use these in every style amaginal from plain out assasin ninga to brute force syle any way posible.

that is ninga kinma
(ps: the name was just some random jiberjaber i thought sounded japanese)

Almost all of the things here have been thought up based on a child's thought of 'Cool' or cliches.

I'm 12 too you know.

Sorry.

I used to do things like this when i was like 4

I used to love writing down ideas for games and then designing all the levels on paper
It's partly what sparked my interest in game development

It's awesome that you have many creative ideas for these companies, if they use one, you could get paid heavy!2009-06-21 06:34:00

Yeah, I used to have all these ideas also when I was around that age.

I've learned a lot since then however about designing and writing for games. I'm not expert, but as I had the fun and enlightening experience of working on a free online game with a very nice guy with great unique game ideas. I went on board with him to make music, and ended up getting involved in helping develop the story and designing levels as well.

There's a lot of various factors that are involved when writing or designing for a game. First and foremost, is whether it's even possible. Sometimes you'll have a genius idea, but whether you're working with an amateur or a pro, it might just be impossible to make at the time. Keep in mind everyone's also always working on a budget, whether it's a free game (in which case time is the budget probably), or a professionally made game.

Also, I learnt a lot about keeping the player engaged and altering gameplay enough that the player is stimulated, without changing the game dramatically so you have too wide a variety of gameplay that never really sets in well with the player. The guy I was working with was having some trouble with this, and I think it's one of the key things that makes a great game.

Also, when writing a script, there's a lot more to consider than just making it a cool, original, epic story. Not only is there the issue of continuity - ie making sure the story fits together and makes sense - the biggest part of writing an excellent story in my opinion is the character development and consistency. It is very very challenging creating a character that really feels real. Sometimes imagination can take a character on a wild ride, which might feel fine for the person writing it, but in reality they haven't really thought out what their character would really do, but might for example write it how they think they would do it.

Anyways, that's just my two cents. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue your dreams - life's a learning process. Try to get involved in some small online games to learn more about it, and maybe you'll learn that you were born to do this, or maybe you'll learn it really isn't for you.

I still think I would have made a great game designer and script writer sometimes. But I'm putting my heart and soul into music at this point, and I'm glad for it! Maybe one day you'll see my name in the credits for Infamous 2 or something

P.S. The game I was working on never got released because it was a very challenging project and the guy didn't have the time to finish it. I think I'll actually email him to see if I can show other people the demo of the game, because honestly it was probably the coolest internet game I'd ever seen in my life. The art style was something of a wonder. Really!

I myself got into making music for my first couple internet games back when I had a wii. I was on a forum called wiicade that was a site that was making/hosting free internet games that could be played on the wii with the wii remote. There there were a few guys who were making games, and I was able to get involved.
That site is kinda dead now though...

In general, a good way to find a game to help work on is to just go to an internet game site, find a game you like, search it up, and try to find the official website for it. Chances are a sequel is in the works, and then just offer up your help in the area you want. Worst comes to worst they say no and you look again!

If you want to start from scratch to make your own game I can't really help you too much since I don't know much in the programming department.

I'm going to give the guy that I was making the game with an email though, to ask him about showing others the demo for his game and about getting involved in making internet games.

EDIT: by the way, although it might sound a little petty to start making free internet games, it can actually be a source of income (not for a full time job of course, but for a student definitely). When a game is made you can look for sponsors, and if it is sponsored then usually (unless the lead guy on the game is a complete jerk) everyone who helped create the game (in a reasonably significant way) will get a share of the money.

The very first game I made music for (when I was around 10 or 11 - it wasn't the best music I'm not gonna lie) was sponsored and I got something like $30. That was Merlin's Revenge 3 (or maybe it was 4, I forget).

dextrio your a game disiner?

Well not really, i'm learning to program at the moment

I've made flash games before so i can point you in the right direction

To begin with you'll need to download Adobe Flash
You should be able to get a 30 day trial from the Adobe site

Then you should search for some tutorials for Actionscript 2, which is the programming language that Flash uses.
There's also Actionscript 3, but that's a bit more advanced so it'd be best to steer clear of that for now

ehhhhhhhh...ahhhh
this is where the **** hits the fan
i can only get ideas. i can't put them into action though
making a game requires setting lines of code for somthing.
if im going to try making a game i need a lbp stile set up. just choose wat you want and place it

Just got an email back from the guy. He actually misunderstood me and thought you were into the programming side of things, but I'll relay his advice anyways

"First off, to learn how to make games you need
> to be a good self-educator. If your schools offers classes on it that's
> great, but you still need to be willing to go out there on google and
> find some tutorials to teach yourself how to do things. It also helps to
> find a really good forum with nice people to help you when you run into
> problems and/or point you in the right direction for how to do certain
> things. Don't go asking people "How do I make a game?" Those kinds of
> questions are way too broad. Start with smaller steps and be specific
> with your questions. A better question is, "I'm making a mario-ish game
> and I'm having trouble getting the enemies to work right. I need them to
> [do something] but they're [doing this other thing instead]. Here's the
> code I'm using: [insert code]. Can anyone help me, please?" Yeah, it's a
> lot more to type out, but it's worth it because it tends to make people
> actually listen to you. As for game-making tools, you can use Flash,
> it's what I use, but it will cost you lots of money and the programming
> language can be hard to understand for a beginner (it was much simpler
> when I first learned it). I'd actually suggest looking into Gamemaker."

He also gave me permission to post the demo of his game that never got released. I know this isn't really on topic, but I just love the art style in his game, so I'll post it here for anyone to check out.
Maybe I'll make a thread for it in the artwork section since it also contains my own (although unfinished) music from a couple years ago in it.
http://ian.janasnyder.com/flyingText.htm

EDIT: by the way, with regards to the demo, press space to use stuff, hold it to stop time. Arrow keys to move. Just though I'd save anyone who tries it the frustration of figuring out controls Also, if you do try it, be sure to give the level editor a try. Although you should not that it slows down significantly if you don't test it very often - that's why it's just a demo
