The little game won the hearts of many at E3, but hey, how could it not! Its a game where you solve problems and puzzles... with anything you can think to type in. Meteors? Check. Time Machine? Check. Keyboard Cat? Check. How do you get a star out of the tree. A ladder? Lame. Climb a bronosaurus? Yes! Or you could just have fun making random things interact. Watch God shoot Cthulhu with a shotgun. Need proof of the insanity? wow at first i thought this was just another one of those Crayon Physics style games This looks pretty amazing though, it must of taken ages to design every one of those items, and to think they all interact with each other too! Anyone got a release date for this? | 2009-06-17 03:37:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Yeah, this game looks sick. I'll have to get a DS for this. | 2009-06-17 03:48:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
Yeah this game is on my list since they unveiled it last year. It's a day one purchase for me. . | 2009-06-17 17:25:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
... Amazing. Even more so if they literally make anything available...wonder what id does when you choose something it can't do O_o. What about verbs? | 2009-06-17 17:29:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
I might buy a DS just for this. If this ever came to PS3 with updated graphics I would buy it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't care if it was 2D or 3D, its such an ingenious and creative idea with limitless potential. And besides, creating 10,000+ interactive 3D objects would be a ridiculous feat. | 2009-06-17 17:37:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

I might make my sister buy this just so i can try this!! It looks awesome and I could spend hours just trying to see what this game has in its database. I forsee internet lists of items that people have found that you wouldnt expect in the database Top ten strange item lists, etc. I wonder if they have a sackboy? hmm | 2009-06-17 18:28:00 Author: Gondito Posts: 1082 |

what if you typed cheese? O_o would god eat it? | 2009-06-17 18:35:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
what if you typed cheese? O_o would god eat it? I'm not sure, but I know a mouse would. In a demo I saw of it, someone made a stegosaurus, which is probably one of the strangest and most unexpected things I could think to put into it. But they said that they basically flipped through a dictionary and made every non-proper noun they found, so there isn't going to be much that you can't do and all objects will react with each other in a somewhat realistic fashion. So yes, people might eat food, but its more likely that a mouse will want the cheese before god does. | 2009-06-17 20:00:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

Lol... i'd like to see this games limit... That would be interesting I believe I saw a thermometer on top of the top DS screen, most likely a limit on how many objects you can create. | 2009-06-17 21:57:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

This seems like the most creative game since LBP (or maybe patapon). It looks like the sort of game the DS was made for. I'll probably buy this when it comes out. | 2009-06-19 22:37:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |

Saw this video earlier of a hands on from gamespot and it has got me craving for this game even more Also in this vid it shows there is a level editor where you can make your own levels from scratch by writing in stuff and just dragging and dropping it where you want it. Would be call if you could download other peoples levels somehow Also one of my highlights in this video was they had a fly and wrote in bug spray and a can appeared and the character used it on the fly to kill it. This game is gonna be huge YouTube - Scribblenauts Video Hands-On | 2009-07-13 00:32:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |
Seems like the devs are thinking to port the game to other consoles. A PSN/XBLA version would be cool. http://www.vg247.com/2009/07/10/5th-cell-scribblenauts-would-definitely-work-on-other-platforms/ | 2009-07-13 14:34:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
I'm not buying a DS just to play this, but it if it were to end up on PSN i'd get it. Is there an age rating? Who knows what you could do | 2009-07-13 20:55:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
that would RAWK cause I could play it . However, if it does come to PSN... it BETTER have keyboard support... Now THAT would be cool | 2009-07-13 20:56:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

This game is really awesome, I summoned a prince and a princess then I typed in "bad guy" to see if him and the prince fought over the princess but he just started fighting everything in sight including me LOL. He was really beating me up so I threw a grenade at him, since that didn't work I spawned a lighting storm which still didn't kill him so I threw Death his way. The "bad guy" was destroyed in seconds, Death is so strong I summoned God and he made quick work of him too . | 2009-09-12 20:37:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |

i'm pretty sure they've included rick astley. lol | 2009-09-12 22:27:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I typed in Rickroll, he spawns then a ? appears over his head and then he disappears lol. I'll try typing Rick Astley when my brother's done playing. Another funny thing, I put Death, God, and Satan in a battle royale and Death destroyed both of them. It took a tank and a rocket launcher to take him down. | 2009-09-12 22:31:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |

I downloaded the Rom and put it on my Acekard . They have Ligers and Unicorns in the game LOL. | 2009-09-12 23:01:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
First thing I spawned was a RAILGUN! It's green with a grey handle. Very cool. Spawned a UFO and flew up to the star. The first world is called "The Gardens". 1-1: Put two objects in the hands of two of these people. Among them is a fireman and a doctor. I place the axe in the firemans hands. Being a norwegian I'm not familiar with what the doctors tools are so I give him a lollipop. You shouldn't be able to spawn things that aren't physical so I tried to write "climb" but misspelled by mistake. "Chimp" was suggested among a list and I thought "why not?" and now the fireman is riding around on the big chimp while the other four characters have no idea what's going on. ......neither have I. Best game ever. | 2009-09-12 23:06:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |

I've pre-ordered this game. For Australians, this game gets released near the end of the month, though I can't remember the exact date. Looks like some other territories might be getting it before us. That use to happen all the time, though recently it's gotten a whole lot better. Are you freaking serious?? It leaked??? AAAGH!! *runs to play* no but seriously I'm going to go play the hell out of this right now. But I wanted to make one very, very, very strong request: PLEASE buy this game, even if you download it! I'm picking up a copy as soon as it releases, but there's no way I'm waiting until Tuesday, a workweek, when I can play it this weekend. So: To confirm, yes I'm downloading the CRAP out of this game, but I'm also buying it and PLEADING with everyone here to buy it, no matter if you download or not. It is so ridiculously important that this game be supported. Even if you don't open it, buy it as a gift, buy it and give it away to charity, hang it on your wall, I don't care, as long as you buy it! | 2009-09-13 08:39:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

@Teebonesy Yeah I was planning on buying it even though I downloaded it. 5th cell deserves all the money they can get for all the work they put into this game. | 2009-09-13 15:54:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I really want this game, but I have to save up money for my senior trip this spring and (hopefully) a roadtrip this summer. And, wouldn't you know it, it comes out the day after my birthday! Figures... Anyway, on topic. If/when I get this game, I plan on going through using the word "ninja" or "ninjas" for every single puzzle in the game. The only problems I can forsee are puzzles like "Stop the ants but don't kill them!" But then I'll just use a moat. | 2009-09-13 16:50:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
You can play AS a ninja in this game! You can change the main character to be all sorts of different avatars you can buy in the store. There's the usual stuff - pirate, ninja, robot, zombie, alien, and others. So maybe you won't have to summon ninjas in each level if you just play as a ninja. So far I'm loving this game. There is a bit of a learning curve, because most objects don't actually behave the way you'd expect. So you might have a very clever idea that doesn't quite work. While the game has thousands of possible objects, i find that there's only a handful of object "categories". But even then, you can discover a few surprises. I had to dispatch a Megalodon (yikes), and not even Cthulhu could take him on. So I simply dropped a toaster into the water. That did the trick - but it also made toast! I was able to use the toast to weigh down a button elsewhere in the stage. 2 for 1. It's also much more tricky than I expected! You'd think that the ability to create ANYTHING would make some things just too easy. But you'd be surprised, you really have to try a bunch of things in some levels. And to top that off, there's an "advanced mode", where you have to beat the level 3 times in a row without re-using any items. Sometimes this is quite easy, other times it is absolutely diabolical. | 2009-09-13 23:20:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

I'm not sure if i like this game enough to buy it but i keep going back for small sessions so maybe it would be worth the money I usually buy games just to support the developers anyway (my friends say it's a bad habit ) so i'll probably end up getting this eventually. | 2009-09-14 00:12:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

Haha awesome. In the mission where you are supposed to "clean up the park" there's a trash can you can put all the garbage in. Yeah well I spawned a tractor and mowed down the whole area. I also tried spawning a nuke in the mission where you're supposed to bring back 3 flowers but the screen flashed white and wiped everything. | 2009-09-14 12:18:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I'm glad this isn't a game that takes something cool like those memes and ruins it. So many other people do that. Like that deodorant ad that took bow chika bow wow. Ruined one of my favorite Red vs Blue quotes. But it's not like they made it. And phineas and ferb took it for a song. I'd like to know why the hell that is appropriate for a show rated G on Disney. | 2009-09-14 13:12:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
I wonder if O RLY Owl or YA RLY Owl would win if you put them together. Side note: How do you summon one, anyway? Just write "O RLY Owl"? And what about LOLWHUT Pear? | 2009-09-14 21:25:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Oh man this game is fun. There's a bit of a frustration factor when things don't work the way you expect or want or need. But just playing the "stump Scribblenauts" game is a blast. Also, I'm not saying that when I played the game, I managed to stuff a baby in a sack and then light the sack on fire, but I can confirm that it's possible to do that... What. Stop staring at me like that. So far, in actually playing through the puzzles, my most-used "trick" is attaching a rope to a helicopter, and then attaching the other end of the rope to whatever I need to "transport". Everytime my girlfriend comes over to watch me play she's like "ANOTHER rope helicopter??" "Hey it works!!" I gotta start forcing myself to do crazier solutions. But some of these levels are DIABOLICAL. There are more than a few I just plain can't solve. | 2009-09-14 23:09:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Sometimes it's just better to go with what you know. The problem comes in when you have to go three levels only using the same thing once. Then you'd have to do like a rope rocket or something. | 2009-09-15 01:33:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

If anyone needs it, here's a link with EVERY single thing you can spawn in the game. WARNING: May ruin some of the fun. http://faqs.ign.com/articles/102/1024222p1.html Yeah I'm definitely avoiding lists like that. SO much of the fun of this game is seeing what will actually work. It's amazing how this game can do all this and fit on a little chip. It's good to hear that the game is a console possible. I'm still waiting for my game and rooster hat. | 2009-09-17 10:56:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
To those of you without the game - it certainly is awesome but I'm pretty much finished with it for now (not finished the second out of ten worlds or something) because of frustrations with the controls alone. I spent like half an hour on a little task (do not trigger the chain reaction). It's not just that one puzzle. Generally I find the controls totally frustrating and while I do love the game I'm done with it for now. Maybe it'll be improved in another version sometime. | 2009-09-17 11:51:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |

I have heard a lot of problems with the controls. What is it? I imagine it would be touch screen to type and arrows to move buttons to jump / actions. = | 2009-09-17 12:09:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
You control the camera with the D-Pad. You walk (automatically jumps over low edges) with the stylus. You click a notepad icon to type your words and you click ok. You'll then spawn the object which you can move / drag around with the stylus. You can drop it on the ground or place it in someone's hand or for example place a toothbrush in a basket. If you click on something you can choose between a pop-up menu to interact or "use" it depending on the amount of options the object have. But you click or drag with the stylus to walk and it's unresponsive and frustrating as hell!!!! | 2009-09-17 13:16:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
Not that it could be fixed but I'd say using the bumpers on the back move the camera left and right and pressing a button toggles it from left-right/up-down would be better so the d-pad gets the movement. I agree with all the issues people are having with controls. It can be a massive pain. I wish you could just control it like a traditional platformer. D-pad for move, plus a jump button. Oh, man can you even imagine how great that would be. At least give us the OPTION to use that control scheme! Instead, you have to use the touchscreen, and usually if you want Max to carefully perform a task, he decides instead to: A) jump into a pit of lava B) run right into a tripwire, losing the level C) run right into an angry enemy, then be attacked, then die C) just start spazzing out, jumping around and twitching somewhat randomly Yeah, it can be frustrating to say the least. | 2009-09-17 19:44:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Oh, deal with it. So the controls are wonky. YOU CAN SUMMON CTHULHU! Also, my flying object of choice right now is the Pterodactyl. He has some flyin' skills. | 2009-09-17 21:30:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

He's like twice the size of a pegasus! Just sayin. Dacty's got nothing on Pegs. | 2009-09-18 00:58:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Pegasus is awesome and I really like using wings too, jetpack is annoying as hell and I haven't tried the Pterodactyl yet. | 2009-09-18 01:45:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Try T-Rex. It looks hilarious. And it's STRONG! | 2009-09-18 11:11:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
Hay, gaiz. So, the game's out, and I think I want it, but I dun really wanna spend $30 on it, unless it's really worth it. Is it? Side note: Technically, "Pegasus" was the name of the winged horse that Hercules rode on, but not the name of the kind of horse it is. That is, a winged horse is not a pegasus. Same kinda thing for Medusa. She was a specific gorgon. Sorry, I just really hate it when people get stuff like that wrong. | 2009-09-18 17:47:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Then what are other winged horses called? | 2009-09-18 17:55:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
Iunno. Winged horses, prolly. But Pegasus was the name of a specific one, and not the species. Edit: There were no other winged horses. Pegasus was the only one. This is strictly Greek mythology I'm talking about, by the way. I know in other stuff there are winged horses that people call pegasi, but it's just wrong. | 2009-09-18 17:57:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I have not tried Pegasus as my aerial steed yet. I recommend not using the Spaceship or the Hot Air Balloon. Both are much too bulky. Pterodactyl is still my flier of choice for now. Also, Chinese Dragons fly slow. | 2009-09-18 21:18:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

Apparently if you type in "sambo" you get a watermelon. | 2009-09-19 02:19:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |

I'm not expecting there to be a name for other "winged horses". I was joking. I'll laugh if you find a name for that though. | 2009-09-19 11:39:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I just love what comes out if you type "laser cutter"! I was trying to cut down the tree... | 2009-09-19 11:52:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I just love what comes out if you type "laser cutter"! I was trying to cut down the tree... What does come out? Don't leave me in the dark here! Also, Pegasus is a pretty good flier. Pterodactyl's still my choice, though. | 2009-09-19 21:35:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
I'm stuck on the level with the row of cars with the cow in front. You have to move the cars forward, but they won't move with the cow in the way. If you kill the cow, you lose. If you just lead it forward a little ways, there's a butcher who kills it. If you kill the butcher, you lose. Help? | 2009-09-19 22:04:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
Use "Dark Matter" to pull the cow out of the way, but not kill it? Also, it just so happens that laser cutters are a type of sailing boat. Needless to say, a rather large keeled boat is not going to help cut a tree down. | 2009-09-19 22:46:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I used my old pegasus-and-rope trick, attached the rope to the cow, and just flew above the traffic. Easy peasy! I'm completely stumped on a whole bunch of levels. Actually, screw it, I'm going to go play this game right now. | 2009-09-20 00:47:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I prefer to fly with the reindeer. | 2009-09-20 05:57:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
I don't much like pegasus tbh. It always seems finicky and runs away from me. So I use pterodactyl. I was also stuck on the cow level, I wasn't sure what it wanted me to do lol. | 2009-09-20 06:02:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
Pegasus is annoying, I was doing the 3 flowers challenge and he got scared of the bee -.- Anyone else know some good fliers? I'm trying to avoid using the same stuff, so far the fliers I know are; Pegasus Pterodactyl Roflcopter Airplane Plane UFO Hot Air Balloon Magic Carpet ...yeah.. are there any others? Also, riding a Broadsword-wielding Centaur is awesome :3 | 2009-09-20 06:53:00 Author: AwesomePossum Posts: 446 |
I think I saw in a video someone was using angel wings or something. And what about a jetpack. | 2009-09-20 10:20:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
i tried to spawn wings. they look like the white decoration wings in lbp and you can use them to fly with just like the jetpack. | 2009-09-20 10:38:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
Well, for fliers, you could always roll with the Chinese Dragon, or as previously mentioned, jetpack or wings. I didn't know you could summon a reindeer. I'll have to try that. I like being told what I can summon and then going from there, you know? Seems better than just reading the list of words. | 2009-09-20 14:07:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
Reindeer sounds like a good bet. Wings and jetpack are handy in certain situations, but otherwise they're not very good, because they can only take you up a LITTLE bit. The mounts, meanwhile, can fly indefinitely. But the downside to riding any creature is that they can have the downsides of real creatures. They'll react to things in the environment, they can get hungry and sleepy, and can get upset and won't let you ride them. | 2009-09-21 10:40:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Just to add to the list of animals you can ride, Roc. | 2009-09-21 18:10:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
I wanted to buy this game tonight and it's sold out around here . | 2009-09-21 23:24:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
I've actually been hunting down a second copy for my lady, but same deal. Sold out everywhere we go. Frustrating, but also heartening that so many people are buying it. | 2009-09-21 23:37:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
When I went to go get it, there were only six copies left of it. Three were already preordered by the game store's staff, so I was very lucky to get one of the remaining three. Also, I preordered the new R&C game - but that's for another thread. | 2009-09-22 03:39:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

I just "got" this game and I'm disappointed in the lack of some words. For example, I wanted to get an FBI agent to fight some aliens, unfortunately, FBI and Men in Black didn't work, and the agent that I did get didn't fight the aliens. | 2009-09-27 16:00:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |

How is Men in Black an expression? Men in Black are dudes who come to you after an alien sighting and wipe your memory or something like that. That would be correct; Men in Black is not an expression. However, it's still copyrighted (it was a movie, after all) so you cannot use it. Personally, I was sad when I couldn't put in Godzilla. | 2009-09-28 05:53:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

Yeah, but the term Men in Black wasn't started in the movie. It was around before that. Can they not use the term cops because it's a TV show? | 2009-09-28 07:11:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |

Yeah, but the term Men in Black wasn't started in the movie. It was around before that. Can they not use the term cops because it's a TV show? "Men in black" is an expression. Or maybe I don't have the exact word. It's when you take an expression and make it the name of something/someone. This might not be called "an expression" in english (sorry, second language for me). And yes indeed "Men In Black" is a term that was around way before the movie. This started around 1947 at the supposedly OVNI crash site in the south of USA (or was it in Central America??). Anyhow, when you were supposedly a witness to some very important and secret stuff, those people would come to you and treaten you to not speak. And nobody ever knows who those guys are. They also are very stealthy, they simply disappear. . | 2009-09-30 05:10:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Well, I finally did get this game. It released in Australia. Frankly, I'm considering returning it. It's very slow and fiddly and boring in my opinion. It feels far like a forced rather than creative game, from a players perspective. It's vaguely fun when it works, but often times, well, it just does not for me. I just can't seem to "get" 5th Cell games. Everyone else loves them, but I always find they seem so... bland to me. | 2009-09-30 14:37:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |

Just to follow up from my previous comment, I did decide to trade the game in after all. The store I bought it from has a 7 day return policy, so I was able to get the full price back for it. With the extra funds I bought Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3. I was considering either putting the funds towards the next pre-ordered title I have (Borderlands) or getting Starfox Command on DS, but in the end decided getting a game I am pretty sure would be of high quality would be the best solution to wash out such a disappointment. I'm going to give some comments about why I did not like the game, but I don't want people to be upset about what they think could be a good game. So I'll use spoiler tags and say you have been warned. I guess Scribblenauts is not really a terrible game, but for me it certainly is not an awesome game. The poor controls and frustration with movement and item usage, words not registering or not doing what they should be doing, far too many puzzles (200+? That's just plain overwhelming), an unlock system that is both medicore in it's rewards (music which you can only listen to on one menu screen or costumes for your avatar which are average) and way too generous (if you finish the first world you will likely have enough points to unlock the final world if you are inclined), a trophy system that does not tell you what you are aiming for and gives you no rewards for earning them... I guess if you like exploring different words it might be interesting, but you can do all that on the title screen. It's almost as if they did the dictionary game, then had 10 people make 20 levels each based on what they already knew the engine could do. And that is the entire game. I like a good puzzler, but this is just a dictionary show off game which gets boring and frustrating when you start to apply it. But for all those reasons I mentioned, it just does not work for me. It's a nice concept, but it's just really poorly executed. It's a huge concept, but it almost goes to show how difficult it would be to implement. If you like spawning two random things and seeing how they could interact, it might be a fun game, but if you want to progress and be rewarded... well, it's not that good at doing that sort of a job. | 2009-10-01 11:57:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |

Hey, Starfox Command was a pretty entertaining game. Albeit, I'm not playing much of it now, but it was a good break between Pokemon/Digimon games. Hey, it has about ten alternate endings, so there's a lot of replay value there. | 2009-10-01 21:23:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
