light switches

Archive: 5 posts

I've been playing a couple levels that have this nifty feature and I was wondering if any of you could explain how these authors make it work.

They have light puzzles where if you shine light on a certain area, it will trigger an event. The thing is I have NO CLUE how they manage to do this.

Specifically I'm thinking of "Puzzle Island" by chillum007 who posted this level in the Showcase board. He has lots of puzzles where if you reflect light to shine on some area, it will light up these crystals and open doors.

I'm guessing that there must be some sort of light switch that is available, but I went through all the tutorials and I haven't unlocked it. Do I get it after Acing a certain level in Story Mode? Is it DLC? Am I just making this all up!?!?

Please someone explain how he makes this work! My best guess so far is magnetic switches but when I tried using that with spotlights and fiddling with the radius and stuff, I can't get it to work like chillum007. Simply moving the spotlight a couple degrees is what he is doing, but the Key is always the same distance from the switch.

Maybe there's a mag switch on it with the trigger angle set to wherever you want the light to be turned? I don't really know, I've never tried this myself. Have you tried that?2009-06-17 01:46:00

All you have to do is put a mag key switch on the light, and tweak the angle down, so it points where the light beam does. Now take the radius out as far as it needs to go. All that's left is to put a key in the direction you want the light to point. When you move the light in the direction of the key, voila. There you have it. Hope this helps.2009-06-17 02:05:00

Oh so that's how he does it! I kept putting the Key on the light and putting the switch out in random places

Thanks for your help!

Yep, that's how you do it.

If you search for "Dark/Light", you can go through my level which will unlock my "Behind the Scenes" level that explains it (and shows the switches).
