My Folding@Home is missing! I went to go on and i can't find it. Did they remove it, and i was just too dumb to realize it? I want to help science too!, (preferably without thinking though i have a bio final tomorrow at 9 in the MORNING!)2009-06-17 00:48:00

I never understood that Folding@Home thing
It's just a globe that you can spin around, it doesn't really do anything useful.

Oh and they renamed it to Playstation Life, so you might be looking for the wrong thing

D:

It uses your Playstation's processing power to test countless combinations of molecules or something, to advance some kind of science!

Actually it's called Life with Playstation and it can be found within the "Network" section of the PS button menu. It got renamed several months ago to this new name. The idea is that there are several "channels" avaliable, all of which allow the Folding@Home program to keep working in the background. At the moment there is a limited news channel and one looking at demographics/bios of different people groups around the world.

I'm an active Folding person and use it for several hours almost every day, pretty much whenever my PS3 is idle. My donor rank is 80,000 odd (out of 1.2 million donors).

My mother died from cancer when I was 23 years old, so I definitely would like to see improvements in medical research like what Folding@Home is trying to do. It's great how it's relatively easy to use the idle PS3 to do such helpful work.

You just leave your PS3 idle in the Playstation Life program. I think.

I think you can still get the old display mode if that's what your talking about...I don't remember how exactly. Just fiddle with some buttons or try out the other channels, it's there somewhere.

If you press and hold "square" after the program has loaded, and then select "Folding@Home" from the list, that will get you the more traditional view.

The "Select" button will then toggle you through a few different views, though the less information it shows I think the faster it can process the information it's doing. I ususally use the half way between views by default.

Speaking of processing speed, the less unneeded strain on the processor you have the faster it will do the calculations. Removing unneeded USB attachments, like the wireless recievers for Guitar Hero/Rock Band, and turning off unused controllers, will help speed up the processing time. Removing any disc from the system will speed things up as well, and if you turn off the music player it goes even faster still.

If you want to get information like statistics and so on, have a flick through the different things that come up when you press "triangle".

Hope this all helps.
