Level title: Jerkball

Been looking for a basketball level in LBP that consists of more than just grappling for a sponge ball against a jetpacked adversary and dropping it into a hoop? I've got one for you. Unparalleled depth was almost accidentally programmed into this level. Use the grab springs to fling, shoot, and jerk the ball to victory. All tied in with silhouette visuals, a working scoreboard, and a few silly prizes, I hope you'll be jerking all night long. 2-4 Players required.

Top 10 things to do in Jerkball:
1) Pack someone- Launch yourself with the tap-grab booster at the right moment to deflect your opponent's shot.
2) 3 Pointer- With enough practice, you can miraculously score from an impressive distance.
3) Dunk- Guide the ball carefully and swiftly to score a quick point.
4) Steal- Without a grabbable ball, it takes cunning jumps to snatch the ball from your opponent.
5) Lay-up- Make a break for it by flinging the ball across the court and carefully easing the ball to the hop platform and into the basket.
6) Kill- Carefully time the flipper's release to kill your opponent, giving you an opportunity for a free throw.
7) Alley-oop- Use the tap-grab booster to correct a teammate's shot
8) "A Gary"- Grab your opponent to prevent them from scoring. It's not a foul. It's a gary.
9) Camping- Hold onto the inside of your opponents basket. They'll have to smash it in to score.
10) Jerk- Run on top of the ball. You'll look so awesome.

I tried this level, but only on my own as I have no friends *lol* so I'm just gonna focus on the visual aspects.

I thought this game looked really good, I enjoyed the silhouette aspect of it and loved how the lighting changed depending on which half of the court the ball was in.

The scoreboard is great too.

Don't really understand why there's a green triangle on the red basket and not on the blue basket, and didn't really get the concept of the grabbable launchers right away, perhaps there could be a little set of speech bubble rules before you start? or maybe it's just me that was dumb.

Your level, I thought was decorative, and a good use of global lighting. It's fun when with two people, and even with one, it's still fun to take shots. I say good job !2009-06-16 19:04:00

I have only played on my own so far but even then jerk ball was lots of fun. I plan on bringing friends to try a competitive game. Just from the tinkering i did with it i found it to be quite deep. i even managed to master some of your techniques. gave five stars and hearted. not even mentioning that it looks nice. i liked the transition at half court.

edit: I got to play against another player, and it was pretty great... adds more techniques to master.... like dancing under the ball trying to get it to go your way while the other guy does the same.		2009-06-17 00:38:00

I too have only played it by myself, but it seems to be more fun if there's another person playing. The ball not being grabbable is counter-intuitive because I kept wanting to grab it, but I assume you get used to it. I gave it 4 stars for the uniqueness.

I played the level yesterday and really liked it, even though I missed the competitive part (since I was just playing by my self). Will play it again with some friends another day...

A fun minigame, which is easy to play. I also managed to dunk some times

Good:

Lmao... man, this was fun, even though I was by myself. Great, fun tricks in the floor, great scoring setup, everything.

Needs Improvement:

I don't know! Add more craziness I guess? That's all i can think of. Maybe a bonus round where you get guns and shooting the ball moves it? I dunno.

Firstly to anyone reading this - grab three mates and go and play Jerk Ball NOW! you will not regret it!

I finally got around to playing Jerk Ball with 3 other people and it was just awesome! So much fun!

I mean really, it was probably one of my all time top levels in LBP, it's like another game within a game. The people I played with were just random people who joined me while playing, so as soon as I finished the level I was on I went to Jerk Ball, and was fully expecting them to get bored and leave but we all had a blast and must have played Jerk Ball for easily over half an hour.

It is such a shame that you are not getting the recognition you deserve for this level, it should have way more plays and hearts than it has at the moment and should have been spotlighted for sure.

The only reason I can think of is that you need at least two players to really enjoy it, but with four players is just brilliant, and I guess most people only rarely have games with four reliable players.

Also it is such a shame that this thread has been buried down in page 4 of the level showcase, so I am happy to bump it to the front page again. Once again, anyone reading this - get 3 mates or just randoms and go and play Jerk Ball now! you will not regret it!

Anyway, back to the level...I managed to do pretty much all of the advanced techniques you describe in your OP, which were great fun to do, the game has a lot of depth which allow you to develop new techniques. I Personally developed a technique of getting the ball past defenders by jumping at just the right time you can keep control of the ball and get past defenders running at you! I scored a couple of baskets like this and it just looked awesome! Interceptions of shots is also a big favourite of mine!

Well, needless to say I gave the level :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. I think I forgot to heart you as a creator, but next time I am on I will definitely do that too! Good job. :hero:		2009-07-04 01:55:00

Just wow, Fantastic level when playing with friends.

Looks great, plays great, and is so much fun to play, real laugh-out-loud stuff - this must be remembered as the original...As I'm sure there will be a few clones popping up soon... geese, I even feel like making one!

#I really like the score board numbers, they are perfect

#one thing i did notice is that sometimes the global sensor is not triggered by the ball, maybe when high and out of range... no biggie... just thought you may want to know.

#Also you can be left by yourself playing... which is good! as long as you keep the ball low and stay out of range... good tactic!

#The green 'neon' tri in the center of the court I had thought it shifted over to the side that was winning (like a tug-of-war)... but i don't think it does... I feel it would be a nice touch, another indicator of the winning team

Played this level over and over with my mate - stand out part was scoring a goal from the other side of the arena! and squishing op-team under a bumper!

Let me begin by saying I absolutely hate sports levels. I tried making a soccer game once and it's by far the worst level I've ever made. Every basket ball level I've ever played has infuriated me with its (in my opinion) completely undeserved rating and play count in the ten thousands.

This level completely changed my mind.

Just played this level on my own, it does look amazing with the silhouette and neon look. Ofc was only messing around taking shots, but the way it is done is fun.
Definaly going come back and play this again when friends are online, can see this being a good laugh with more ppl

Truly clever competition level. Well thought out and I loved it.

I have to grab a few friends and try this one out asap!!

I just went in and shot around. Great scoreboard all the way to 21 too! ...maybe a few rules in a separate corner. Oooo ...maybe like a locker room? Get some tips from the coach before proceeding to the game? However, I still was able to easily figure it all out. I had a blast and I was just single player. I am excited to try this out with others!

I am torn on the set decoration though. I loved the light change depending on the ball position, but can't help thinking something like a faint design or graphic covering that back wall. It couldn't be anything distracting, but possibly some sort of custom sticker with very little contrast suggesting a crowd? ...or maybe just a faint uncomplicated design? Maybe not.. I'm sure that was a tough decision!

Dam this level is fun! It was interesting that ball wasnt grabbable but it works out so much better the way it was designed.

I love that there's actual strategy and defense that can be used. Probably the best sport game in LBP.		2009-07-12 20:09:00

Okay - I was just introduced to this last night (thanks SLS10!!) and I have to tell you (as others before me have)...
Go grab a friend or three and play this level. That was the most fun I've had playing co-op in a long time! This level is brilliant and addictive.

I do not recommend it as a 1x though unless you're practicing (and as I got my butt whooped last night by a couple players who have clearly practiced, I'd say practicing might not be a bad idea). But until you've seen and experienced the game in competition, you can't truly appreciate it.
