Junkyard Madness (w/pics)

View on LBP.me (http://lbp.me/v/pq1-nk) All those bad looking cars that are in the level were made by me . Oh and just in case you didn't notice, the level is a survival challenge. You must jump over the different cars so you won't get crushed and sent to the hospital! Can't really tell much by the pics but sounds like a good idea! | 2009-06-16 02:53:00 Author: CAM456 Posts: 5 |
It's like, cars emit (6 cars in total emit randomly, I'm really proud of that, it took me forever to get that randomizer to work!) on a conveyor belt towards you. You have to jump over them so you won't get crushed (or thrown into gas, whichever comes first). I'm currently working with ConfusedCartman to try to see if I can get a competition going for this level. | 2009-06-16 03:02:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I like the idea of a randomizer. I'll play tomorrow to see it in action... Are you ready to divulge how it's done? | 2009-06-16 03:11:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I like the idea of a randomizer. I'll play tomorrow to see it in action... Are you ready to divulge how it's done? Sure, I got the idea from GamerDonn (I think, it's the first thing that comes up when you search for randomizer) play that level if the below explanation makes no sense (lol). Basically, it's a wheel that spins at a set speed (I think mine is on 5.5) with 6 mag switches (one for each emitter for each car) on it. There is a mag key on a piston set to flipper down at a set amount of time (I think mine is on 12 secs). This mag key on a piston also has something that comes down with it so it can press a button set to inverted which stops the wheel from spinning (that should prevent more than one switch to be activated at a time). That's how I did it, play around with it to make it satisfy your needs. Gamerdonn gives out a randomizer so you can check it out in create mode, it only stays emitted for a couple seconds so you have to make sure the game is paused when you do so. | 2009-06-16 03:24:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Sorry for the double post but this is important, the contest for the level is up! Here's the thread for more info: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12754 | 2009-06-16 03:35:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Ah, you suck, my score is gone (nothing impressive, but hey). I went to the contest page and noticed that you changed the level. I played the first version this morning and agree that it can get repetitive. I'm not sure how you'd spice it up, but it would be very beneficial to the level... | 2009-06-16 15:56:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Yeah I can see how it may have got repetitive without the bubbles. But with the bubbles I don't think it is at all. Trying to get the multipliers on the bubbles keeps you more than occupied. Awesome level, I recommend it to you all. Great fun to try and get the top score on, and I bet it would be a lot of fun two player also. | 2009-06-17 02:37:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |

I really think the bubbles on the belt made the level a lot more fun, I'm glad everyone agrees. | 2009-06-17 03:34:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
This is on the cool levels page! I'm playing it right now, and so far it's great! I love the compactor thing! | 2009-06-17 04:04:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
This is on the cool levels page! I'm playing it right now, and so far it's great! I love the compactor thing! Whaaaaa really?? Awesome! Thanks a lot . It took a while to make the compactor work right so I'm glad you liked it. You should see how it was before I fixed it, the level broke every single time lol. | 2009-06-17 07:12:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I was wondering why I wasn't getting hardly any feedback, I forgot to put F4F. Come on guys I need something to fix. | 2009-06-19 17:02:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I played this. The intro is AWESOME. I love how you made it like a movie! And this level is fun as well. It has a simple concept to it and it's challenging. Love it. I think I hearted it, but not for sure. | 2009-06-19 17:28:00 Author: blacknumbers Posts: 79 |
Thanks a lot, blacknumbers . That intro took a while to perfect I'm happy people like it. It's annoying that the doors don't close fully though, I tried to change it but they kept breaking... | 2009-06-19 18:13:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I found your level watching cool pages, and rolled it two or three times. Let's jump the pros and get straight to the interesting points: I liked the idea but I have some complaints about it. - the belt turns quickly really fast, imho you have to wait a little more before making the belt roll at full speed (increase the approaching time of the key to the switch maybe?). - maybe you can spice up the level adding a meter or two to the play area, that I found a little bit too small (and I said maybe...). - some cars are nasty to jump on; it is a survival, but imho it is too much unforgiving; but it's only my opinion though... lol - I think it will be nicer to add some other sounds, I remember hearing the police siren... some engines or horns would do... But thinking about it, with 6 different cars it will underline ''only'' the small amount of cars... - I know you had troubles with the 'randomizer', but if the thermo let you do it, if I were you, I'll consider to insert some other different cars... all the cars in the game atm looks like 'new', try to break them in some ways, is it a junkyard or not? hmmm... out of ideas... hope I have been of some help. Rated :star::star::star::star::star: and hearted. No tag. F4F:Since Platforms Madness II is away from my mind I do not require you to feedback. However I'll let you know when I release my new level (I'm close to completion, but I'm fighting against the thermo...) that is meant to be a survival challenge, if you want to save your feedback for that time... | 2009-06-23 00:06:00 Author: Miglioshin Posts: 336 |
this level was really fun and entertaining. I hearted it, tagged it "fun" (cuz i couldn't find "brilliant"), and rated it :star::star::star::star::star: | 2009-06-23 03:57:00 Author: bbdogdude Posts: 37 |
This is, by far, my favorite user-created survival level. My main reasoning is that you didn't skip any of the things most survival-level makers skip. Why do I need to know that Sackboy is playing with heavy machinery on a dare? Why do I need ghetto-fabulous cars (the 4-door sedan with 2-door racing gear is a great touch) when I could be jumping random-sized bits of unadorned green foam? Why does the caddy need hydraulics? Why does the scoreboard rest in a Dumpster? I don't NEED any of these things. This is precisely what makes them so awesome in this context. You wanted me to have fun, so you did the extra work. Thanks for that. | 2009-06-23 04:23:00 Author: coyote_blue Posts: 422 |
Wow, thanks a lot for the great feedback guys! I saw that a couple of you left great comments on my level, thanks for that too . the belt turns quickly really fast, imho you have to wait a little more before making the belt roll at full speed (increase the approaching time of the key to the switch maybe?). I'm planning on doing this tomorrow actually, I have a contest going at the moment and I didn't think it would be fair to the people that played it before if I slowed it down now. - maybe you can spice up the level adding a meter or two to the play area, that I found a little bit too small (and I said maybe...). I'm not sure but I think there was a reason why I made it so small, can't remember right now (I think it might've been because of the camera and I wanted the crusher to be on screen at all times.) - some cars are nasty to jump on; it is a survival, but imho it is too much unforgiving; but it's only my opinion though... lol LOL I know, I wanted it to be that way. I'm evil . - I think it will be nicer to add some other sounds, I remember hearing the police siren... some engines or horns would do... But thinking about it, with 6 different cars it will underline ''only'' the small amount of cars... That's a good idea, I might do that. - I know you had troubles with the 'randomizer', but if the thermo let you do it, if I were you, I'll consider to insert some other different cars... all the cars in the game atm looks like 'new', try to break them in some ways, is it a junkyard or not? LOL I was thinking I should make them broken and stuff since it's a Junkyard but I wanted them to like nice, don't know why. Also, I would add more cars but the thermo is full, **** emitters... F4F:Since Platforms Madness II is away from my mind I do not require you to feedback. However I'll let you know when I release my new level (I'm close to completion, but I'm fighting against the thermo...) that is meant to be a survival challenge, if you want to save your feedback for that time... I think I gave feedback for PMII, I look forward to your survival challenge . | 2009-06-23 07:00:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Attention to detail did it for me, I don't know about anyone else but I thought it would have been more aesthetically pleasing if you had added a few more bells and whistles like a few lights here and there when a car spawned. It would be a detail most people missed but once you saw that you would have a slight advantage. But enough about suggestions I'll do a quick pro a con wrap up + I love the context of everything. It was nice for a change for someone to actually add a small backstory instead of saying "stand here and don't die" +The added details of the car was nice, including the hydrolics on the first one. - After the 3rd car came along it was such a pain to actually jump over things I maybe if the car was smaller? it looks like the sackboy is the size of a toddler proportionately Another thing I would have added was some sounds like the breaking glass and if you have it the slime impact on the garbage bags. | 2009-06-23 17:01:00 Author: Waldo Posts: 108 |
yeah it did get kind of hard for me to jump over the cars, especially when i got to the point where the treadmill was going faster than i could run. and as someone said before, i would also break the cars in and add rust or something to it. oh yeah, and this level should now be in the cool levels thread (where it belongs) after this post | 2009-06-23 18:33:00 Author: bbdogdude Posts: 37 |
This was a lot of fun! I now see what you meant about our smashers being similar! They are almost exact! I didn't copy though, I swear! Anyway, I thought this was a fun and entertaining survival game and loved all the different cars that you created. The one with the hydraulics was a riot! I didn't do very well, but I will check it out again and see if I can't improve my score a bit. Nice job! | 2009-07-13 19:19:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |

Replaced my homemade randomizer with the default LBP2 one which obviously works way better and also made it so that when you die you end up in the hospital which is where the scoreboard is. | 2011-01-23 08:44:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
