Remote Switches

I thought this would be a pretty good idea that would solve some issues with switches and emitters Basically it's a switch without a wire that interacts with any other key of the same colour This would be useful if you have a stationary switch that you want to interact with something that's emitted For example if you want a switch to dissolve a load of emitted dissolve material I know i haven't explained it very well so i've drawn a diagram (which probably isn't much use either) http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/140609/82617_remote_switches.jpg | 2009-06-14 23:03:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
How does hitting the button make the switches interact? I did something like this, but I had the button emit the key(on some dark matter) to interact with the switch. | 2009-06-14 23:31:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
Nonono, the remote switches just replace any wires For example connecting a button to a red remote would make that button effect anything connected to the red remote key | 2009-06-14 23:56:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I think I am just slow but I don't really get it. Can you give another example of how it will be useful or how it could be used in a level? | 2009-06-15 06:20:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I'm close to giving up on this idea xD It doesn't have a great deal of uses to be honest This is my last attempt at trying to explain it http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/150609/44716_emittersssssss.jpg In part A of the diagram the button is attached to the remote switch. Once they're connected ANYTHING that is connected to the same coloured remote key will be affected by that button as if the button were connected directly to whatever the remote key is connected too. Part B of the diagram shows that objects that are being emitted with the remote key are in effect connected to the original button | 2009-06-15 12:29:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Oh, I think I get it now! That actually would be pretty useful. The only problems I see are that it can only be used a certain amount of times since there aren't much colors of mag switches and that everytime you use one of the "remote switches" there is one less color that can be used. Other than that its a pretty good idea. | 2009-06-15 14:46:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Well i suppose it would work if the remote switch had a trigger radius If it had that it could be used in a similar way to mag switches | 2009-06-15 14:59:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Maybe instead of colors, add a basic scripting possibility..? I.e. you call switch A for 01 and switch B for 02. Add 3 digits and you can have up to 1000 of them, even though I believe 100 will do. At the receiver-site, associate with the same number and switch 01 will control/activate any 01-receivers. Only use I can see for this type of switch is to make debugging easier and maybe to avoid some "long loops"... | 2009-06-15 15:27:00 Author: Ygg_Barasil Posts: 58 |

That's what i was thinking at first, but since magnetic switches are colour coded i thought it'd be best if these were too | 2009-06-15 15:46:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Can't you replicate this behavior pretty easily with magnetic switches? Sure it wouldn't be as neat and simple as this, but it wouldn't be too bad either. If the button is hooked up to an emitter to emit a green key with a short lifetime. And all the dissolve blocks have green magnetic switched on them, it should have the same effect. You just have to make sure that the radii of the magnetic switches can pick up on the green key. Granted this wouldn't work very well for level wide remote switches, but for that you need something without a radius. | 2009-06-15 17:20:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
