Questions on connections

Hey, this is my first post, but I've been lurking for a while. I just started LBP a few weeks back and I'm amazed how complex and sprawling some user created levels are. So I'd just like a bit of advice on a few of my problems.

1) I'm making a Monty Python themed level and I'm starting the level with a fly in on a coconut (sponge) on a string between two sparrows. I haven't been able to figure out an effective rigging system without the two birds crossing. And attempted to make the birds fly up when the piston starts moving right and fall again once it reachs the other side. Any suggestions for the rigging?

2) This one is more general, how do people make the "scene" effect where the camera stays steady for a section or room before moving.

3)When ever I try to create a large monster, bolts seem to snap. How do these "bosses" in user created levels do it?

Not enough information here (at least for me), could you provide a drawing or a screen shot of what you've got thus far?

2) This one is more general, how do people make the "scene" effect where the camera stays steady for a section or room before moving.

Using the camera tool, tweak the camera and set the "Track Sackboy" (Track User?? Can't recall the exact text, but the tracking slider anyway) all the way to the left (minimum). As long as Sackboy is in the effective range of the zone selected, the camera will stay fixed in one position.

3)When ever I try to create a large monster, bolts seem to snap. How do these "bosses" in user created levels do it?

This one is a bit tougher to narrow down. It is probably related to the materials used ( the physics with any moving pieces can get dicey), but may also be caused by the bolts themselves. What types of material and bolts are we talking about here (wobble bolts can be particularly persnickety)?

1) Perhaps you should make your sparrows in different planes? Strings (or bits of creeper ;p) can go across planes, so that should still work. To get the birds to recall, you'd want some sort of sensor set to directional (probably motion), so when sacky leaves the coconut haven, the sensor changes direction of pistons holding the birds, and they go back down, and left, instead of right and up.

2)Theres an item in the tools bag called "Camera Zone". With this you can set the camera, and where it effects.

3) Lighter materials seem to make bolts have an easier time, as there is less wieght on them. Also, if you're working with wobble bolts... wobbly bolts get kind of messy in general. I believe there is a guide in the tutorials section of help, you should check that out. I tend to make a lot of bosses, what do you plan to do with it?

good suggestions above - I don't have anything to add they haven't mentioned except it's an AWESOME idea for a level. It's about time someone did one of those! So many possibilities for sight gags! Argh...... wish I'd thought of that *walks away sad*

Be sure to make a level showcase thread when you're done - I'm very excited to see it finished.

I'd love to do a level full of Terry Gilliam's animation.

Can you picture the creature from Holy Grail like in your post with all the monster eyes from LBP - OMG! So cool! And being able to throw the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.... I'm sensing a timing gag here.... 1 - 2 - 5!

Wow. Thanks for all the help. Burnvictim's idead worked and thanks for your help on the camera thing.

And the level is gonna be a big one and depending how off-topic this can get without mods frowning on us, feel free to post suggestions. And I'll make sure I put the level up once I'm done.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. The Boss in question is a dragon (most original boss ever, am I right? I have a way to make it more interesting, if it works...) for the other level I'm working on, mostly only trying to get the tail and head to move, not too complex.

This depends... African or European Swallows?

As a side note, someone I went to school with is doing special effects on a new Terri Gilliam film... that's all I know. Might be Zero Theorem, but I can't be sure.

As for suggestions... how about a chorus line of Knights? Oh... and the Cave of Caerbannog with the Killer Bunny would make a great addition!!
