Oh - I do charge XP... 250 XP in advance. To be honest, I don't really need them, but it puts off anyone just putting in a request for the hell of it!

Applying your sig tutorial.


The sig you see should be the sig you get - in other words, it should not re-size at all.

The easiest way to get your new sig into your profile is as follows:

1) Right click the sig here and click Properties (or view image info if your using Firefox).

2) Copy the image path (URL)

3) Go to settings and then on the left hand side, click "edit signature"

4) In the edit signature section, click the small image symbol http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/LBPC-Style/editor/insertimage.png.

5) Paste the entire image path that you copied earlier.

6) Save signature

7) Done!!!

I just saw your post in my thread about my first attempt at a sig, I hav'nt really done anything with it, I got sidetracked with other things.

If you're offering to make a sig, I'd love a one with images from my Siberia series of levels. You can find the pics in my showcase level.

A pretty simplistic interpretation, but quite effective none the less I think.

If this isn't the sort of thing you were after, let me know.

BTW - I can't keep this hosted where it is so I suggest you save it and upload it directly.

1st: save the image from here.

2nd: go to your User CP menu and choose Edit Avatar.

Then, at the bottom, choose Option 2: Upload image from your computer (with the browse button)

When you save changes, it actually uploads the image onto the LBPC site so you don't have to have it hosted somewhere.

Do you want anything changing/ adding/ removing?

If you're not keen, I don't mind - just say and I'll have another go.

This was tricky.. I have tried to take some of the best from each section. Didn't want to lose any more detail so i was a bit restricted to this number of images.

I've saved it as a transparent .png file so it should blend into any background.

Spider-Jew - here's my attempt at yours.

I tried with several versions of this but all of them were starting to lose the sackboy character.

In retrospect, I would probably have concentrated on the web itself with perhaps a symbol in the foreground, but again... not sure what your reaction will be.

It's pretty good. You could always just use my character that is my avatar now and put the webs behind it.

OK - now that I look at my first attempt in the cold light of day, I'm appalled by my own lack of creativity!! It looks terrible and I wouldn't want anyone to use it!!

I could use your current Avatar, but the quality of image is very poor (not your character - just the quality of image) so the end result wouldn't be up to my standards.

I do however have a really cool idea I think you'll like... doing it now!

Done! - Now this is more like it!

There are 3 elements here, overlaid. The star has been placed where a black widow marking would normally.

I had some fun trying to get the black spider to stand out on the web, but I've increased the contrast of the web and put a blue glow behind the spider in the same colour as the star.

The whole thing is offset slightly to give better composition.

If you still want to use your character, could you possible post an original LBP image with your character on a white background?

Turned the star a bit to make it look like it was on the back and made the background a little darker.

Smasher - no problem. The lettering should be easy enough. I think the difficult area will b "smashing" it without losing the readability of the lettering. I'll give it a try.

Lady_Luck_777 - this is for you!

I have been doing this for a while now and it has been difficult to a) find the right images, b) get the composition right and c) get the colours right!!!

Originally, I had an image on my head of the unicorn and dragon together facing right, but I just couldn't get them to blend well.

In the end, (with the help of IceMaiden!) I thought that a single image was more striking than trying to put too many elements into the same small space.

The dragon was ditched!!!!

Anyway, here are my meagre efforts.

The second one is educational as well!! Its actually of the horse-head nebula, but edited a bit to make it look like a unicorn. The colours too have been altered to suit your avatar a bit more.

However, the combined image on its own looked wrong somehow and lacking in composition, so I went back to my original thoughts yesterday and finally, we have something!!

This image is quite complex, with many layers and effects as well as light/dark adjustment layers to bring depth to it.

I really wanted to highlight the stark difference between two characters.

I won't spoil the surprise by telling her...will let her find this jewel in the morning. She's on the PS3 right now developing.

I did try to do the fist smashing through the name, but as I suspected, you couldn't really read the lettering well, so it lost all hope!!

Actually, we live in Texas (Southern Texas that is, where we chew on hay for breakfast, and ride bulls to work), and love it here. I used to live in Carlsbad California (South of Oceanside, which is South of LA), many many years ago, but I guess it wasn't Southern enough for me.

Also, my wife lost 4 hours of her LBP devleoping last night due to some file issue, and has had a migraine headache all day. She hasn't been on the computer yet, so she still has not seen the avatar. I will gently nudge her to the PC in the morning.

Not a problem, but I am kinda busy doing other sigs and avatars, so if you could take the pictures, it would certainly make my life a bit easier!

I'll do them in a simlar style to GrantosUK, but I don't want to copy his style as I want each one to be unique in some way.

Just post the pics here and I'll see what I can do. (its best to only have a maximum of 4 pics in each sig, but if you take a few, I'll choose the best)

MarvelousHat - I've finally managed to scratch something together...

Unfortunately, I'm no cartoonist (hats off to all cartoonists - you have REAL talent), but it might be possible to create one from scratch (which would take a littel longer).

However, I've managed to create a half passable image in PS..

First is with the blue background, but I feel this loses something and looks a little bland.

That's not a problem!!

Even did a little shadowing on the cube to make it blend nicely.

Getting the lighting, contrast and saturation was a bit tricker, but I think the finished product ain't bad..

BTW, your image isn't the original size, and it's lost some resolution... you can always do this to keep it and it should appear on all posts.. (which it is'nt now)

Save to your hard drive.

Upload to a server (Like photobucket)

Copy the link

Edit signature, and insert image with the link as the target.

Save

Voila!! one original sig!!

Well could you do me an avater where the stick man is dropping a clock (alarm clock?) into the bin, and there is text underneath it saying' What a waste of time' (probably best on 2 lines)

I did try at first to get the whole of the text in, but it looked (personally) a little crowded, I I crunched the wording down a bit.

Not sure which you'd prefer so I put both in!

TBH, I haven't yet seen all the work other have done for you but I can offer this advice...

Animated images are very tricky to get right, even with the best software. Too often, they look jerky and uneven and tend to annoy others on the forum if it stands out too much. Also, because we are limited on this forum to animated .gif's the render quality is reduced in line with the 256 colour limitations of a gif.

ZimInvader has already done you a cracking image, which (with my assistance of course ) looks great as it is.

Perhaps you could concentrate on getting a high quality static signature in .png format. .png images carry transparency (or Alpha channel) similar to many of the sigs I have done and I prefer them to lower quality jpg's.

Static images are also far easier to produce. I don't know what software Joruto used to produce your current one, but ... it could be improved!

So in summary - go for a really good quality signature (not animated). I have recently found you can get away with 500x150px on this forum currently - so go for that.

The brief.... You liked Assassin's Creed 2 and black, red and white!

Really pleased with how this one turned out...

The main character was a cutout I did myself with some good ol' fashioned burn to darken the lower parts.

A flame effect was created to fit and swirl around his hand - which was then edited so that the arm looked in front but other parts were behind.

There is another layer just behind the character to give the background some "life". But this deliberately isn't very obvious.

Then I had to sort out the hand which was dark against dark, so I added a white blob, added noise and did a linear radial blur.

The font is the original Assassin's Creed font... sized to look like the main title. Yes I did try in lowercase to match your PSN but this font only comes in caps and lowercase wouldn't look the same.

Finally just a transarent cut on the top and a slim black border to finish off..

Hope you like it - I think it stands out like a dream!

"Noise" is a graphic term to add random (or uniform depending on the settings) colour pixels embedded into the layer. In itself, it looks horrible because the effect just looks like a really old 8 bit image and badly aliased. However, in conjunction with other effects, noise can be used to great effect, such as with motion and radial blurs... don't know if GIMP has it though.. 		2010-10-27 23:19:00

I've been using Photoshop since the earth was still hot so yeah - I use it lol.... but only normally for post rendering stuff. I mostly like to create 3D renders and then I can create better compositions. Blender 2.5 Beta and DAZ Studio are awesome free 3D packages, but I also have a copy of 3DS Max.... which is complex!!!

Oh, well most people out there that make real high quality stuff out there like your sigs, use photoshop. I use GIMP, and am still learning how to use a lot of the stuff in it.

@HelloBob5 - this wasn't as easy as I thought it might be. Took some time preparing the rendered images you wanted, but the time was taken getting the light/shadow direction correct so there was some difficulty there.

I don't know which method you've used in PS. If you're using the add adjustment layer - gradient, then no, GIMP won't do that. However, in GIMP, it should be relatively easy to create another layer over the existing border layer and add a gradient into that. Then just multiply/overlay/screen it over the base border layer.

I'm not as experienced in GIMP, so I don't know if this is possible?

This is really clear and I can do that without too much difficulty. I will however warn you that the style of your character won't match the background too well... :S I'll have a think.


I have a request and can pay also! I would like my sackboy to be in it. I have a photo on my ps3 harddrive i can send you. I would like him to appear the same way he appears in the photo. I'd like it to be the same size and shape as your sig. My sackboy could be either on the far left or right side. I'd like my username to be kinda like the little big planet logo thing. I'm thinkin the tree could be the T in my username. Natural colors would be the way to go. brown, tan, a little green. Also the logo should go across the bottom. So above my username you can improvise. The current sig I am using is not the photo I wanna use. Just let me know when you want me to send it to you.

Another very clear request and well described. If you could post the image you want me to use, that would be helpful. In the LBP2 Beta, the photos are much larger and better quality.

I admit, I struggled with this one. As I warned, the character doesn't fit brilliantly, but I've changed the style of the background and added similar colouring to the font, which kinda pulls it together as best I can.

The character has a style of its own and only a na?ve cartoon stlye background would suit perfectly... It's almost a conflict of content...

If you're not keen, I'll send your XP back...

I'm going to make your name into 3D lettering and then import into Blender.

Then I want to create an animated fire licking around the lettering....omg that sounds so simple...

In reality, no imported animated fire or photoshop brushes will achieve this so I am going to have to use the particle system within Blender to create fire from scratch.

I don't think I've ever seen this so if it works, it will look great.

I may look as if I'm not busy now, but believe it or not, my overworked laptop is currently 48% of the way through "baking" 20,000 particles to create fire in HQ - a pretty memory intensive job.

This was NOT easy!!!

It's a reasonably big file so may take a few seconds to calm down if you've got slow broadband... and for those on dial up - forget it!! lol

Boring technical stuff in the spoiler below...


Created in Blender 2.55 Beta

Text using text edited and extruded before adding a material and a rusty metal texture with bumpmap.

Fire created using the new smoke simulator with one inflow plane and one domain cube.

Text then converted to editable mesh.

Physics collision object was added to text.

20,000 particles on low quality

material of domain is 0 density

texture uses voxel data with two layers - first is default smoke texture on density influence. 2nd is using a ramp colour to look like flame and using 5 factor emission influence.

250 frames then had all dynamics baked (about an hour)

Before rendering, I used the compositor to add an RGB curve to pick out the orangy highlights and then associate a 10px guassian blur to add a faint glow around the heat.

All frames then rendered in high quality (another hour and a half)

In photoshop, imported video file as frames and added a slight fade to last 20 or so frames.

Added 2 pixel white border around edge.

Added 2nd layer over border created using dynamic flame brush and then deleted with a slight feather.

Exported as gif on 256 colours with 90% dither - adaptive.

Ta-raaaa



I really, really hope you like it but, as always, I'll edit it if there are any problems.

I can guarantee that this is completely unique and would be very hard to copy.
