Isle of Terror PART 1 and 2 are sure to impress!

Archive: 3 posts

Level Name: Isle of Terror
PSN: solidjacks
Parts: 2 so far

My first 2 uploaded levels take you across jungles, waterfalls, minecart-rides, the shores, and the canyons.

I've tried to spend an equal amount of time on both the look of the level and the gameplay, and even though I only have 40 plays on my first level, some of the comments so far have been extremely positive!

Part 1
First of all, try unstraightening your tooltip when you create. It makes things look more interesting. There are a lot of straight/repeated edges, which I'm not sure is what you are going for based on the level of detail. The tentacle part was awesome! If you jump onto the boat in the back plain, you go right by it - you might want to fix this. The camera on the boat bothers me. The little jump pads are quite fun, and the boss models are awesome. Again, my only complaint in the large number of straight edges in your map. It took away from what could have been a 5-star map. 4 stars for potential, tagged with fun.

Part 2
So, I load up part 2 and it has 1 play and 0 hearts. A little worried - you know you can heart your own levels, right?

Already, I see a few flat surfaces, but so far it's not as bad a violator as part one. You know, you can stick a thin piece of material in front of your pistons, so we don't have to see the inner-workings. Try sticking the big piece of material that you blow holes through with the bombs to the wall or floor, as when you blow up one side, the other side's bombs push the material to the side. I had to pop myself out of the hole on the right. The mine car part looks pretty and the detail is nice. It takes a long time for the cart to get there, though. The exit out of the cave was VERY nicely done. Detail = good things. The water mill was awesome. The last little chunk of the stairs that pops up has an exposed bottom, though. Ah, I am anxiously awaiting the canyon level, now.

All in all, this level was a good time. Not revolutionizing anything, but the direction was very concise and precise, and didn't look half bad. A few things mentioned above need to be tweaked. I don't want to say infinitely better than your first level, but... it's a lot better. 5 stars, hearted, tagged with splendid. Not sure why more people haven't played it - perhaps because the first one was not amazing?

I would appreciate some feedback on my Aperture Science level if you don't mind. Also, try not to bump your own threads, it is frowned upon.
