Problem - Motor bolts swapping direction or stopping

Archive: 5 posts

Ran into an issue with a conveyor belt on a level I am building. Seems when going into play mode this evening, some of the wheels are either stopped or rotating the opposite way.

The best I can tell is some of my planned debris hit this while the conveyor sections were starting. In replacing some of the wheels, I find other ones now stopped or out of the blue reversing direction. None of the motor bolts have switches attached as I was needing the conveyor to populate prior to getting to that room. So the direction is set via the bolt and switch not needed.

It has worked perfectly for quite awhile and have kept the level paused during most of the construction to insure I don't hit the 160 hour mark if that bug still exists... I have heard of motor bolts stopping, but reversing?

I did a test in another level with the conveyor and found if I jumped hard on some they would reverse as well, so I am guessing that I need to make the wheels just a bit smaller. I am guessing that they are just too darn close together and thus causes them to fail though I did build and place them all using the small grid. (I removed grid to place the motor bolts so they would snap to center)

Just curious if anyone else has ran into this.. I didn't see a thread citing this issue exclusively so thought I would ask.

Thanks!

So... are they so close to one another that they might be touching? Could be that one is turning the other - also why some have stopped. Though you'd think this would just cause it to break. Dunno - never actually seen this phenomenon, so I'm just brainstormin' with ya here. 2009-06-12 03:39:00

Appreciate your thoughts.. That is the only thing I can think of is that they sometimes touch under load.

Basically on the small grid, the wheels are 3 x 3 x 1 wide. I just plopped them down the way on the grid so even though they would turn.

What I am now attempting is I made that same wheel just a tiny bit smaller in no grid mode and reassembling the whole thing via the grid again. My hope is that I will at least gain enough gap without screwing the functionality of the slabs for the conveyor.

Just weird that they swapped direction and if you check the motor bolt properties, it still shows the same direction. WACKY!!!

I have had motor bolts switch direction for no apparent reason, but never in play mode. Just when I've been editing. I'll go into the properties and be like, "WTH? I just set this clockwise. Why is it now going counter-clockwise??" No explanation for that though.2009-06-12 04:03:00

LOL!! dang silly things!

Well.. the size had to have been my issue. I just redid all of them (ugh) with the new teeny bit smaller size and now works like a champ!

Oh.. on the editing not sticking.. What I have found if my last edit was simply editing a tweak menu like a motor bolt etc and saving. Well.. it doesn't seem to acknowledge the change. Or maybe it is if I tweak then hit play, I find the Save option does not come up. Anyway... if a tweak menu is the only thing I do on any item, I move something off in the distance like a bit of dark matter way out of the way as that seems to help!

Thanks for the help!
