Well, it only took one year but my Heliianthus Annuus seeds from, The Great Sunflower Project (http://www.greatsunflower.org) finally showed up! For those of you not in the know, the great sunflower project is studying bees thru the means of distributing sunflower seeds to people like you and me. There is a Bee Problem (entire colonys continue to collapse) and seeing how every third bite of food can be traced back directly or indirectly to bees... their dissappearance could put a right proper kink in the food chain... Think Barry Bee in Dreamworks' BEE MOVIE. It is being run out of San Francisco's State University. It doesn't cost anything to participate, you'll receive seeds and a data sheet to fill out... specifically they are tracking... presence of bees?, type? timed interval of pollination (up to thirty minutes) That's all it takes to help--think about joining or at least do a little research... also, even though I am no closer to completion-- look for my level, THE BEE VOLUNTEER, coming soon? | 2009-06-11 17:57:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
A bee flew into my room 2 days ago and it was the first time i'd seen one in years Wonder if it had anything to do with this I think he spent the night with me because he kept waking me up with his buzzing! | 2009-06-11 18:06:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

I get annoyed by bees getting at me foods and buzzing around. Actually I think that's wasps I'd do this but it looks like you need time - something LBP has deprived me of! | 2009-06-11 19:29:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
Well, not exactly bees, more like red wasps (hornets?) not really sure, but they seem to use our house as a nest.... They usually stay outside, but sometimes they get into the house, and that's when things get ugly.... EDIT: Did some research and turns out they ARE Red Wasps, here's a pic. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=488&pictureid=4415 | 2009-06-11 20:09:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I think there's a bit of a communication problem in this thread. As an American that now lives in Ireland, I got it figured out. What Americans call bees, the English and Irish call wasps. Bumblebees are the same in both and there are none of what Americans call wasps found in Ireland. Not to sure about England but I wouldn't think so. And that sunflower idea sounds kinda cool. But thanks anyway there's no shortage of em around here. Had a nest of em in my roof last year. Just hoping they don't come back. | 2009-06-11 22:19:00 Author: Chicago51 Posts: 258 |

Do they carry massive syringes and have scalpel's in each hand O_o | 2009-06-12 01:23:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
They're nasty little (insert swear word here)s. They'll mug and everything before they stab ya. I saw one taking candy from a baby. | 2009-06-12 01:41:00 Author: Chicago51 Posts: 258 |
So 'bumblebees' is the same but 'bees' is different? Languages are very interesting things. xD And yeah, American wasps are nasty little fellas. Seriously dangerous in swarms O..O Bumblebees will at least try to leave you alone, or at least only sting once; wasps will sting and sting and sting and sting. | 2009-06-12 01:59:00 Author: Loius Posts: 342 |
