*** The Snow Queen Trilogy *** (SPOTLIGHTED!)

Archive: 95 posts

I just spent three months making this trilogy and there's a little bit of my heart and soul in each and every one of them.

They are based on the beautiful fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen and I hoped to portray the magic and grace that his storytelling deserves.

There are no free prizes, points or costumes, but each of them is filled to capacity with detail so there's plenty to look at and enjoy (hopefully).

Chapter 1: Rise of The Snow Queen

I would be really, really grateful if anyone would like to try them. I would hate for them to just disappear.

I will be glad to do 5 F4F reviews at least but will probably do many more in the future.

I'll go play these now... however

Take a look at this thread for F4F (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7962).

F4F is a site feature that will get people to play your levels and... yeah, just check the link.

I'll go play now then

Could you post some pics maybe a description of the levels?
That usually atttracts a lot of attention.

You already know what I think.
For the record: This was a beautifully done storyline. It was exquisite.
The attention spent on details was breathtaking. The atmosphere was perfect.

Though there was no massive game play I don't feel that should distract in any manner from these levels.

I'm looking forward to your future creations!

You edit the thing like it says there. then, whenever someone leaves feedback on your level, you go to one of their level's threads and leave feedback there.

Loved the levels, BTW. 5 starred and hearted all. Loved the second level especially. it was a music level in a really great disguise. Would give feedback, but really none... it was obvious you were going for a straight artsy feel, and with that it delivers.

Thanks for the advice. I edited this post and changed to F4F so I hope that's done it.

Thank you so much for the great comments. I'm glad you appeciated them.

I am currently taking some video footage and photos to post in a bit.

Really beautifully done, there's a lot of excellent design here. Everything looked like it had time, love and effort spent, and it's the first time I've ever thought the foil material actually looked good. ; )2009-06-10 22:53:00

This is one of my favorite series' and a few of the very best levels I've found lately. The detail is immaculate, the designs are perfectly laid out, and there's some serious artwork going on here.

I recommend everyone give these levels a try if you like fantastic visuals, great storytelling, and fun gameplay... each one has a unique feel, and builds up to a good conclusion and one single thing that's probably the most extravagant and amazing looking characters I've seen on LBP so far.

Definitely glad to see these posted in the showcase.

Wow!

Incredible art style. You`ve taken materials that should have no place in this level, and somehow made them look like that was their intended purpose all along.

You created your own little world, that is sculpted to perfection and that`s inhabited by some beautiful characters.

The story telling is great, as is the music in part 2. A musical interlude! Fantastic stuff!

All 3 get 5 stars and a heart from me. Can`t remember the last level that had me in disbelief from start to finish, let along a series of 3 levels. These levels are art.

2 minor points (because I get dizzy if I have nothing to suggest):

- Sometimes the checkpoint placement is out of the way in the first level. At one point you need to go 20ft in the wrong direction to activate one. That moment broke the flow of the level for me. Other times you need to jump into the cut out area to activate one. Not a huge deal, but I think with this level, it`d be better that players didn`t have to concentrate on these kind of things but rather just lose themselves in the level.

- Right near the end of part 3, when you get told that you have to spell out 'eternity' with shards. The magic mouths activated and disappeared without me getting a chance to read them as I had jumped up and evidently gone too far before stopping. It was fiddly trying to get the first one to come up as every time I hit triangle i`d get the second one again. I`d stick them on permanent switches if the thermo allows.

I finished all of them, and I not only gave out whatever hearts I could, but rated them 5 stars and tagged them as "beautiful"

I was a little surprised when I realized that these levels really didn't have any obstacles. You know, no traps or enemies or any way to die. But when I just took the time to look at the level itself I was just stunned.

You must be an artist in real life because time alone could not produce such amazing effects.

I wish I had your talent. Good job and I really hope you make more levels!

Hi again IceMaiden. Here's my take on the experience I had when I played your level "Empire Of The Snow Queen".

Absolutely stunning visuals! Absolutely masterfully created characters! Absolutely brilliant stage design! Absolutely flawless execution of the theme throughout the entire level!

When my wife and I played this level, there were moments when we sat in silence, speechless, in awe. You captured our minds, and took us on a journey that touched our soul as well. I felt priviledged to have been able to experience a level such as this, and I found myself at the end wishing it would continue.

This level was truly magnificent! And your talent for creating is an inspiration!

Bravo! Bravo! Very Well Done!

I recommend, in the highest regard, that everyone on LBPC play this level.

I will consider it an honor to receive feedback from you on my first level, Takken (Part 1)-The Beginning.

As for the F4F (Feedback For Feedback), you will be getting a lot of plays on this thread. I would suggest you create a list of the people who play and review this level, and any other levels that you Showcase in the future. It will make it much easier to keep track as you play them and give your own feedback.

Thanks again for the experience!

Part one:
My jaw fell off. Eyes starting to melt from over-exposure to artistry.

Part two:
Now my ears are melting too, meany.
This music, by the way, not only is beautiful on its own IN LBP NOTES OF ALL THINGS, but fits the level AND THE STORY perfectly. :O

Part three:
Oh hey look actual gameplay xD
Kinda.
But I don't care. These levels are PREEEETTTY. Prettiest I've ever seen, and I've seen a good chunk of very beautiful levels. I can't heap enough praise on your artistic talent. It would probably break something.

ONE nitpick. Near the end of the song, I hear sour notes. They're not sharp or flat; they're sour. I dunno if it was LBP-notes interfering with each other or what, but it just grated on me. Not enough to rate down, though; all three levels got five stars and hearts, and you got a heart as well. Amazing. I'm hoping to see more from you

wonderful job on these levels, the story ending was a little anticlimactic to me (she just gives him up? lol) but beauty just oozes from every corner of this world. Thanks for adding a few levels to my hearted list.

Hey haven't given feedback for a level since... well... ever really, at least since the game was released. I felt compelled to play and give feedback on this trilogy the second I saw the screenshots.

Firstly let me say they are beautiful creations. It's strange as there is little gameplay in the second one yet it is my favourite due to the beauty of the music. It actually made me feel something on the level that Team Ico's games usually do which is really saying something. Sort of a sadness at seeing the cold beauty of the world... maybe sadness isn't the right word... wonder perhaps.

I was mesmerised from the very first scene when I saw the quality of the rocking chair. The detail in every section of the levels is astounding and I thank you for creating them . I feel that MM should be contacted in some way. I feel that they should really play these levels just because I feel that everyone who owns LBP should experience them and I think the creators themselves will be astounded at its quality.

Now I hate to give criticism despite it being constructive but I guess that's the point. I apologise if any of the criticisms seems finicky but when something is of a high quality it is the little things that annoy you . Also I should point out that I've never created a level (so this feedbacks for free ), I do understand the amount of work that goes into levels but may not understand the complexity of some parts of the level, so if I criticise something that took you a long time to create, I apologise and just put it down to my own ignorance .

General

I felt that the way that the story is told is a little simple, but perhaps that's the point of a fairytale.
There were times that I felt you could put a text box to indicate the significance of a certain section. For example in Level 2 you zoom in on the crystal alcove, perhaps it is literally just something of beauty that Kai passes on her way but I would have liked a text box to give it a name or give it some extra significance. This could perhaps be because of my love of descriptions through text as opposed to visuals though.

Level 1

First rooms looks great but I felt the text boxes could have been spaced further apart, first time through I ran past some and picking the right one to read again took a few moments.
I felt the camera should be changed to frame the dissolving of the roses.
On the first playthrough I bypassed the tear -> rose bit... perhaps that's my fault though.
Loved the running water bit .
Everything great for a while, loved the texture work on the ice that the carriage passes over.
Also the mouth of the lair looked amazing!
Also loved the detail on the platforms in the next part .

Level 2

As I said this one was my favourite .
Loved the design of the sleigh and music is fantastic! Really made me feel something... I'm a sucker for that kind of music .
Really loved the use of ice for the running water again.
Crystal designs were excellent.
I felt that the waves that were sliding back and forth could have had a sound effect. Especially in a cave/lair you would expect it to have a sound.
Another thing that struck me was that the spider web (I think it's a spider web) between the pillars is a little too perfect and rigid. Just something that stood out for me.

Level 3

It's only on the second playthrough that some of the details are sticking out for me . Really amazing. The work behind the first puzzle and the vase after that... stunning.
Really liked the see through elevators.
Also the design of the snow flakes was excellent.
The pillar puzzle was great I thought, slow paced but took you a minute to figure out.
I'm not sure about the design of the torches... they seem out of place somehow. Obviously ice would melt with the flame so near but I felt they could do with a bit of shine for visual effect.
The snowflake puzzle was great and the stairs rising with the cracking sound really reminded me of ICO .
Lightning flash was cool.
The text-boxes were again a little closely spaced where the shards are sticking out of the ground.
I was a little disappointed not to see Gerda in the level at all... I'm not sure how you would achieve this and retain the quality and beauty of the level though.
Also the creation of the word Eternity was visually a little simple (I'm not sure how complex that is to do in the creator). It would have been really cool if single shards had come together to make each letter.
The Snow Queen was REALLY cool! Great design.

Well that's it. I loved all 3 levels. Hearted levels and creator and again thanks for sharing them. While I haven't played loads of community levels in LBP, yours are right there with the best that I have played . I feel richer for having experienced them.

Just played your levels, heres my feedback on them as I play

Part 1
-----------

+ Excellent little details in the house, the books, fireguard etc.
+ Liked the characters and roses
+ Cool Snow effect
+ I like the way you've constructed the landscape look very cool
+ You've actually made that awful shiny metal meterial look very cool, kudos for that!!
+ Nice cable car ride.
+ You got some really really beautiful sections in the level.

---------
Part 2
---------

+ Again really impressive visuals in the cave
+ Liked the sled to
+ The music sounds very good
+ Wow, the waterfall and tiny details on the bridge were brilliant
+ Its a very relaxing ride that gets better and better as you move through it

----
Part 3
----

+ Loved how part 2 ended where part 2 starts, nice idea to keep the flow
+ The detail in your levels is brilliant, I loved palace.
+ The camera angle looking back of the spires toward the start looked really cool
+ Nice little puzzles, not hard, but good to play
+ Love the castle design.
+ Liked how you ended up back at the start of the first level, nice work

The amount of detail, thought and care thats obviously gone into your levels is fantastic. They were extremely well constructed and looked great. The only let down was lack of challenge and any high score system but after playing all three, its not what these levels are about at all. They have to be experienced!!

*****, beautiful and a heart for all three.

You have some talent

I don't know how to start...

I don't know what to say...

I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the comments I have just read.

I may hide!

No wait...

The credit goes to Hans Christian Andersen - he wrote the story! All I wanted was to do it justice.

I've loved this fairytale since I was a child and having the opportunity to translate it onto LBP was a joy.

I really, really put my heart and soul into it, so I guess you've all shared a little bit of me.

Normally, I'm Icey by name and icey by nature. I just wanted to say, like Kai, my heart has been melted.

I feel compelled to say that Khalith_, my son put the music into the Caverns and my husband, Rhyfelwr, created some of the concept art, without which my trilogy wouldn't have become a reality.

As my son would say, it was hand-carved to precision!!

When I get over the shock, I shall attempt to repair the faults.

Thank you all so, so much.

Simply superb set of levels. Not much in the way of gameplay, but the visuals more than made up for it.
In the case of these three levels, I have no definate favourite.
I loved the almost-poetic storyline introduced in the first level, also enjoying the great visuals.
Loved the music in the second level, but what's more - the visuals were brilliant as well, showing that music levels don't have to look bad!
The final level was a fitting finish in the same vein as the rest of the trilogy - short but just perfect!
Hearted all three levels

I will play them tonight.

Really looking forward to these!

Played all your levels earlier and you have moved right up the list to become one of my favourite creators.

It would have been a travesty if I'd missed these levels. Thank goodness for good old LBPCentral.

I'm not going to give long drawn out feedback because it's all been said already. I will just say they are Beautiful and Breathtaking and just the sort of levels I absolutely adore and I look forward to seeing more of your awesome design in future.

Overal, really nice level
4/5
Awesome level, really welll made, and great visuals, but you pretty much only walk forward, might as well just moved the player with some sort of mechanism.

Hi Icemaiden. I've just played Part One. Here's my thoughts...

PROS
+ Stunning visuals amongst the best I've seen
+ Story was charming
+ Magical atmosphere
+ Appeal to play the next parts (which I will!)

CONS
- Difficult this. The level was great treat for the eyes, but I wanted a bit more gameplay, though I appreciate I haven't played the last two parts.

OVERALL
This level showcases that LBP is not all about bombs falling and loud crashes and bangs. Very artistic and thoroughly enjoyable.

Rated 5*, Tagged with 'Beautiful' and hearted.

Cheers,
MrsSB

PS - no need for F4F

Wow. This was a stunning trio of levels. I really liked them all, Hearted them too!

Part One: What a lovely introduction to the story, the visuals were really good in this and the design of the level was great too. But like the poster above said, I don't think there was enough game play, but this could count as a story level in which the game play was just right!
4 Stars/ Beautiful

Part Two: This visuals in the cave were amazing! It looked beautiful. The song was also just amazing. Just right for the story! I loved it!
5 stars/ Musical

Part Three: Once again it felt like a "guided experience" but that's completely fine with me. I really liked the look of the castle. The massive upward climb and the lightning you showed later on really got to me. The snow queen didn't put up much of a fight eh? Well It was a nice ending to the trio.
4 Stars/ Satisfying

Wish you much luck with this series.

Oh and can you do some F4F please? I'd like you to try out my Siren levels in my signature below. A little tough but there's a walk through provided! So I hope you play and enjoy! Thanks!

OMG!!!!

Just OMG!!!

How long did you spend on these?????

After seeing this thread, I thought "OK, I'll just try the first one.."

After playing the third, I am truly blown away. The visuals are the best, yes the BEST I have seen on LBP and I would definately recommend that this needs to be played as one of the "fifty things to do in LBP before you trade it in".

What amazed me the most was the variety of game play.

The first level was a superb introduction, easing the player into the story and offering a glimpse of what is to come.

The second level was a complete change, but suited the story perfectly. The music is just staggering considering its done using LBP piano notes. I loved this.

The third level was again a complete gameplay change - more action, more puzzles and a real sense of height as you ascend the palace tower. Some of the effects in here are unique. I especially liked the lightening which was fantastic.

Oh.. Can't miss out the Snow Queen herself - just how did you do that????

Overall, I feel uplifted by the whole experience - stunned.

Anyone who says that there isn't much to actually do is completely missing the point - JUST LOOK AT IT!

More Icey levels please

Hey Icemaiden,
Just wanted to return that feedback you left on my levels since all I have said here was that I would play them.

What can I say that hasn't been said yet....hmmm.
Let me start off by saying that these are my kind of levels.
As a visual junkie, this was LBP-heaven for me!!

Level 1:

You made ice levels look fresh!! The materials were used creatively through stickers and decorations.
Who would ever have thought that the MGS material would fit as snow?
I absolutely loved that river you incorporated in the first level. So smooth and so good to look at.

My jaw was hanging pretty low all the way through the first level.
The moment when you revealed the dragon's mouth in the ice cave was when it smacked to the floor.

Not much going on when it comes to innovative gameplay but we are not complaining!!
Everything looked beautiful from the cottage in the beginning all the way through the scoreboard at the end.

Gave it 5 stars, tagged it "beautiful" and hearted it

Level 2:

Now this is how all music levels should look!!
You amazed me with your graphics once more and the music wasn't bad as well, haha!!

I always thought that most of the music levels look kind of plain when they obviously have some room to add eye-candy.

Gave it 5 stars, tagged it "musical" and hearted it

Level 3:

I have not yet played level 3 since I got a failed to load message and was running short on time...

I'll play it later today but I'm pretty confident I will have to heart another level.
Looking forward to playing that climax, stay tuned!!

Ok, listen-up, this is not the important part but I've got to say at the start that for me these levels were all way too light on gameplay... it's almost non-existent. Ok? Digest. Here we go...

I found you on craftEarth before I found this thread... was going to put your trilogy into the recommended section of the forum... With limited plays-- I thought I had truly found something so special and so unique it needed to be rectified immediately... Well, apparently I had, and apparently so has everyone else.

The metal gear material alone stickered white made me sick with envy for not seeing it earlier... I've been working with it the last couple of days, and just never saw it with your eyes... you are beautiful for seeing that... really. It nearly brought tears to my eyes... each of the three levels. I blinked them back though and bravely carried on... I took alot of pictures. Your trilogy is true creative artistic beauty, and, you should revel in all the accolades thrown your way... and not change a single **** thing! I marveled at a lot! The Ice Queens perfect breasts... everything is just perfect. Congratulations! It is a great adaption of a great tale told in a happily haunting way... the attention to detail wins out... no matter what the medium... great art wins out ...and this 'interactive Art' won my physical heart and respect. I'm glad you found LBP because it would have been a shame to keep 'all that' emotion locked up any longer.

To be honest, I didn't heart your levels, not really sure I'll ever really have reason to go back, but I can say this, in that moment between first and second level, and again between second and third, I was really moved to carry on, and while my own soul soared the whole "hearting process" really seemed silly and irrelevant... I am sorry not to have done it, for all you gave I would like to say Thank You so very much, I am father to three young children and just have to be a better Dad for being reminded that somewhere in each of us; True Love Conquers All.

Who knows maybe I will return, for inspiration, to be a child again, sitting on the lap of a great creator... marshmallows in my coco, if only to remember that...

Yo! BC here, ready to present my feedback.

part 1:
+ the beauty, design & the looks
+ the house
+ the cave
+ the wilderness
+ nice little platforming

part 2:
+ self made music.... SELF MADE MUSIC! it's awesome
+ the waterfall reminded me so much of Shadow of the Colossus
+ the part after the waterfall with the crystals reminded me so much of FF, how did you do that?

part 3:
+ copy/paste feedback from pt. 1 but just replace the house, caves & wilderness with a castle

Rated 15 stars, 3 hearts and beautiful.

cons:
- there is a minimum amount of gameplay but when there's something beautiful as this it doesn't matter (that much)

Just played these astounding, levels and I honestly don't get this quote above. I know he says its not the important part but even so...

As lladwer says above, all you have to do is look at it (in limited bursts otherwise, you get grazes on the bottom of your chin from it hanging on the floor!).

I get so frustrated with so-called "Best Rated" levels.

1,000,001 free **** prizes in 15 seconds....

Race from A to B on a piece of wood with a rocket - FAST

Millions of free costumes made from quickly made stickers...

Blow yourself up in a dozen different ways...

AAAARRGGHHHHH - WHYYYY?

Gameplay is not the point here (mind you, the 3rd one does) and you need to just let yourself get immersed in the story.

IceMaiden - don't change a thing... please... it was gorgeous and I felt honoured to have been in your little world.

It's not often I see a really, REALLY good new level (and there are a few now) and I was just reeling when I got to the top of the tower in the 3rd Chapter...

One major complaint.. I didn't want to stop and had to play the last one again - which made my wife angry because I was letting my food go cold... and then she made me do the washing up... which took up more time away from LBP.. Please make a fourth installment so that other similarly disadvantaged addicts don't have such severe withdrawl symptoms....

These should be highlighted or spotlighted or something to MM as an example of what is achievable!!!

Obviously 5 stars (and yes I did heart them - why would anyone who loved them not????)

I found the lack of gameplay a little dissapointing, but the beautiful visuals and gorgeous art does much more then make up for that. You've made a truly beautiful trilogy of levels that amazed my eyes. My favourite part was part 2, that was maybe the best music level I've played, as it combined amazing music with magical visuals. I really liked the intro for part 1 as well, and the story being a narrative is really creative. And the character design is just...well, I'm speechless at how well the characters are designed.

I five starred and hearted all 3 of them. Great work!

And about the F4F thing could you please leave feedback on my level "Journey Through the Dragon's Dojo"? It'd be much appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who has played my trilogy.

I'm honoured to have been spotlighted.

I have made some teensy-weensy little changes in response to the constructive feedback.

The magic mouths have been improved and checkpoints are now checking!!

I had a look at changing the torches in the Snow Queen's Palace but didn't feel I could improve on them.

There's not a lot I can do about "lack of gameplay". Perhaps that will come in my next level.

I wouldn`t worry about it. The levels aren`t about gameplay and I think they`d suffer if you tried to crowbar it in.2009-06-14 02:21:00

I mostly agree with the others. Nice style and great detail.

My only (small) complaint would be that I think the Ice Cave level could do with better lighting....

Wow. This series is a visual and auditory feast for my eyes and ears! Yes, there isn't a whole lot of platforming or puzzle solving (especially in the second), but like Matt pointed out, these levels aren't really about that. The story is what is center stage here and you do a wonderful job of telling it. Well done!2009-06-18 02:08:00

There is nothing I can say except to repeat what everyone has told you already: these levels are absolute masterpieces! Incredible design and just amazing story-telling.

This is my new favourite series in LBP, and I've hearted you as an author so that I can play everything you create from now on... (although one heart just doesn't seem like enough )

Please don't retire now, many of us would be absolutely heartbroken if you did! Although I can definitely appreciate the desire to call it quits now and go out on a complete high!

But I think I speak for everyone when I say that it would be an absolute shame if your talent stopped being used to make more extraordinary levels for us to play, we are all looking forward to how you continue to improve as a creator! (no pressure though )

I may well have been put off creating by what I saw this morning.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I think there's nothing worse for a creator than to know that their hard work has been exploited by other people.

Do you have any idea how it was possible that they would copy your level??

My suggestion is that you send them a message over playstation network; just a nice little reminder that maybe they should credit you for the cave mouth thing and point people towards your level.

And if they refuse upload a bunch of angry-face pictures on their level >..<

And while they didn't directly copy your level as such, it's obvious they spent enough time looking at it to recreate certain parts and call it their own.

They must have taken a photo of mine and then created it themselves. As Loius points out, they aren't direct duplicates (as I didn't offer these as a prize), but they've spent time making sure it looked pretty **** similar!

They may as well have used a piece of tracing paper...

Well, I am officially upset with myself... for not having played this series sooner. It was absolutely awesome. Not very challenging, but I daresay this is the prettiest, most gorgeous level I believe I have played. It's unfortunate that others are trying to benefit from your work, but I hope you continue to make levels (as yours motivate me to make mine better...)2009-06-20 17:02:00

please allow me to be the next to feed you praise on your beautiful accomplishments..

I think the second one is actually my favorite..
The music is wonderful and i love the scenery
..the whole ride is very relaxing
If one is to do a music level.. this is absolutely the way to do it.. i showed it to my girlfriend and she loved it as well ..(all 3 levels, for that matter)

Thankyou uzuEYE. I am glad you both enjoyed my trilogy.

I couldn't have done the music level without my son's help. He is an extremely talented musician and I think I may have taken advantage of him!!!

Holy crap, I played these back-to-back and I swear I loved them all. Each level was completely unique, though rather short I must admit. I would have suggested merging all three levels into one, but I realise now that you would have major thermometer problems (the materials you used must have been very thermo-heavy). Each level was a pure showcase of your creative and artistic talent, I can tell that you've poured your heart's emotions into these levels, the music in the second installment was incredibly beautiful and the design/visuals in all three of the levels were just magnificent. You have major talent.

:star::star::star::star::star: and a heart for all of them, + a heart for you as well. Fantastic work.

Sorry, just wait a moment while I collect my jaw from the Floor.
Right.
I don't really have much to say. The levels are a little short, but what you get is perfect.
Each is done so brilliantly that I don't know what to say... The concept, the execution, the music, the puzzles, the snow queen... Everything is amazing.
If I had to pick out a tiny fault, i'd say I think it would look cooler if the pillars in the puzzle in no. 3 were staggered, so the second one started as the first one got half way.
Really only a tiny nitpick tho.
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star: + <3 for all three.
F4F could you play watson world thanks.

Strange you should say that!. This started out as a single level but by the time I had done the house in the first one the thermo was well on it's way!. I gave up on it because I didn't think I could fit everything in. I decided to make a music level instead at the same time taking advantage of the fact my son is a music teacher!!! Then he suggested, bright spark that he is, that I make it a trilogy and 'Voila' here it is!!!

Thanks to everyone for your great comments.

It is difficult to offer feedback for something this specialized and beautiful. I'll try anyway.

The second level is the best. The first level sets it up in a way that a stand-alone music level just can't match. As a music level, it also compares/competes directly _with_ those stand-alone music levels...and nukes those other levels into oblivion. It also doesn't hurt that the song is clearly written for two-hand piano, since you're using piano objects.

What the other two levels leave me wanting is more of the interactive "Eternity" moments. It would turn these "looky" levels even more into a storybook - like those big pop-up books with the lever you can pull to animate the scene.

5 stars and hearted, for expanding my thoughts about what can be done with LBP. Thanks for sharing.

Just got done playing these and really enjoyed them.

The first level has such great little details, I really liked your use of the various stickered metal materials, it made for a very interesting snowy landscape. It did a great job setting up the story, my only complaint is that it was over too soon.

The second level, well, music levels aren't my thing, but this was very enjoyable. Very relaxing and lots of great visuals to check out.

The third level was just wow! That palace is amazing, I moved through it at a snails pace in order to soak up every little detail. Loved the snowflakes, your lightning was incredible (makes mine look terrible)...all the elevators/stairs were very well done. A real visual feast, 5 stars and a author heart.

Thanks for playing coyote blue. I think it may have been better if I had made more interactive sections, in fact it probably would have been better if I had actually put some game play in these levels!!! I am working my way through your lone ninja series, will post feedback soon!

It is good to hear you took so much time looking at the Snow Queen's palace fullofwin. That was a nightmare to build, I bit the controller several times in the same place!

I thought sure I had posted a comment on these, but maybe I only did that on the levels themselves!

However, I wanted to comment to repay your kindness upon visiting my level and share my thoughts here as well.

Simply put, these levels are breathtaking to an extreme measure of delight. I loved all 3, but I think the 3rd was probably my favorite as the palace was spectacular.

5 stars and you stole my heart! ..well.. not really, but I did give you one!

Thanks again!!

I really thought the musical level (part 2) was the best. The visuals were great with the whole cave setting and all, and the music was very nice to listen to. For me, personally, I thought your levels were nice, but they rather bored me.. But I don't really tend to like levels that are THAT driven by a background story. I was hoping for some action, but that didn't happen. I can tell you spent a lot of time on these; they all look beautiful! But for me, it just didn't pull through. Sorry!2009-07-10 04:05:00

I don't know why I took so long getting around to playing these. It's hard to try and evoke certain feelings in this game. And I think you did it perfectly with the second level. And with the roses. I'll be using your levels as an example when I try to explain to people how LBP is art.

Yesterday I tried the level with Shadowheaven.
And we were like o_o, O_O, holy ****, cool!, azz! (in Italian...)...
The level of detail is monsterlike, never seen anything like that.
Shadow seems to be a tourist, he took something like 30 photos of the levels.
The falls in LE ONDE are the best I've every seen in LBP.

Wait for other stuff, absolutely.

I promised you a while ago that I'll give you feedback, so here I am.

Let me point out that the level that I did like the most was the 2nd one. But I want you to know that this isn't at all an easy choice. I really seriously mean it if I say that you beat the Mm guys at their own game when It comes to create visually stunning stuff. Yes, ok, it feels like if you normally don't care about the platforming aspect of the levels, but I don't think nobody could complain about that seeing -just seeing- your levels. You decided to overwhelm the player visually. Aaaand you did achieve it.

The 3rd level it's a clear example of this. I don't really need platforming in there, even if there's a few; the high amount of eyecandy does amuse me enough. Specially the snow queen... wow. And I thought that I was good at drawing... :/

What I also loved was the fact that in the secnd level you broke the rules of musical levels; you gave us beauty in 2 different ways, and that was what made it my favorite.

What can I say? You simply have my utmost respect as a creator

I think I gave :star::star::star::star::star: to all of them. Maybe 6

As for the feedback, I'd love you to give it on my very soon incoming level, Lafarge's Request. I shall PM you when the time comes

I didn't add prize bubbles because I felt the 'popping' sound they make would have detracted from the ambience I was trying to create.

It's just an occupational disease that I have to put in my two cents in almost every graphical thing I see. Haha.
IMO the most beautiful things in your level are the enviroment, the buildings, the light-effects... the snow-queen, of course, is very impressive, but there are more beautiful things.

Hi IceMaiden

I saw this thread a few days ago and I decided to take a look at this trilogy.

Well, I guess it's hard to tell you something new, but (hehe) it's not necessary at least :-)

Your levels have one specific characteristic: it's your unique style - and for me, this is the one of the most impressive things that makes a level great! I can't remember that I've seen an icy-themed level with a look that could compare with your style. Very cool work!

The story sucked me right into this ice-world and that's brilliant. The atmosphere that you've created here is just wonderful.

When it comes to rating, well it's a bit hard for me:

Level 1: I "only" give :star::star::star:
I mean, I love the atmo, the style and the story. But it was really dissapointing, that this level was SO SHORT :-) As I stumbeld over the scoreboard my first thought has been "????" :-) that's really not a bad issue, but I expected a much bigger level - so nevermind the three stars - it is really a good level.

Level 2: LOL - like the lenght of level 1 was very unexpected, it was also VERY VERY unexpected, that level 2 is a pure music-level. But man: there is absolutely nothing wrong with that - on the contrary: I've never seen a music level with such a brilliant fantasy/icy look. Breathtaking!! And of course: the song that you've used here matches the theme of the story perfectly - wonderful music in a wonderful fantasy land - even if this one is a cold world, this music make me feel a bit warmer :-) great stuff - so I gave :star::star::star::star:

Level 3: IceMaiden - Thank you for creating this one!!! Incredible architecture, beautiful visuals (the flashs are amazing!!!!), perfect icy-theme, nice machines and of course the look of the snow queen at the end of the level: WOW .. I mean... WOW WOW !!! Pure Art! I gave :star::star::star::star::star: for this wonderland.

But nevertheless, after I saw your screenshots in this thread I expected much more gameplay elements - for me, it is a pitty that there are only a few real plattforming elements in the three level. Don't get me wrong: I mean, the level are great the way they come along, but I prefer a bit more jump&run while playing (needless to say, that this is also not a bad issue, because it's based on my personal preferences.... nevermind) :-)

I didn't read this whole thread, maybee this question has been answered already: but hey, why did you call the main-characters "gerda" and "kai"?? :-) I guess you HAVE your reasons for these names, but hehe, they really doesn't sound very "fairy-tale-like" :-))))

So, all in all: three very very good levels - in total I would say, that this trilogy is a must play!!!! Hope this trilogy will get the reward (lots of plays) they deserve.... thumps up for this great work!!!

hahaha! i had the same thought. "gerda and kai" sounds like an elderly german couple to me. but i did a little research and surprisingly hans c. andersen made up those names.

so, thank you for that lesson, icey! i thought that i knew all the h.c. andersen fairytales but i was wrong.

Thank you Neo for playing my trilogy and for all of your comments.

I shall try to explain how the things you have mentioned came about but first let me say you are not the first person to mention the lack of gameplay! I admit to being useless at providing that.

In answer to your question about the names of the characters, I didn't choose them, The Snow Queen is a Fairy Story written by Hans Christian Andersen and they are his characters. I have portrayed his story to the best of my ability and with the tools provided by LBP.

When I created these levels I was totally naieve of how this game worked in create mode, I had dabbled with a couple of levels but nothing serious and I had no understanding of the dreaded thermometer. Which is exactly why the first level is so short! I also wanted to portray the dramatic difference in the surroundings Kai and Gerda lived in and the grandeur of the Snow Queen's Palace so the first level needed to be less impressive. I guess I relied heavily on visuals which is rather strange considering I don't have a creative bone in my body!!!

I am so pleased that you took the time to play Neo and I thank you again for your thoughts.

... considering I don't have a creative bone in my body!!!...

HAHAHA... ARE YOU KIDDING???? Your level is filled up with creativity :-) you did an awesome job here!!!

Well, for me, it's not a lack of gameplay due to the fact that there are only a few "real" gameplay elements. I mean, at least it was your decisson to create it the way you did: so, YOU wanted it this way and it IS brilliant. There are so many great levels that "misses" some gameplay, but nevertheless: gameplay is not the only factor ta make a level a "great" level. Visuals, style, atmosphere, story-telling - all these are equal (in my eyes) when it comes to rate a level. And your level trilogy is full of great fairy-tale story and beautiful atmosphere! :-) like someone said in your level-comments: "eye-candy" :-) Even if I am a big fan of gameplay, you gave me a great entertaining time, and THAT's what counts. Thanks for that!

And thank you for the info about the background story of this level - I've actually never heard of the story...

I've just played the trilogy and I have just one word... WOW!

These are the most visually stunning and creative levels I have ever played, I know that they are a bit lacking in gameplay, however the attention to detail really makes you immersed in the world and makes you wonder how much time was put in to make something so beautiful and immensely detailed.

I can't think of any way to make these levels (masterpieces) any better, They have no problems at all.

:star::star::star::star::star: plus a heart for each and for you, Brilliant work and I can't wait to see more.

The Trilogy is really amazing and I for one replay it quite frequently. For anyone who would like to relive the amazing music and visuals of Chapter 2 while they are at work, I mean away from their PS3 or are elsewhere, a video link is provided below.

I played these a while back and was thoroughly enthralled. Let me apologize for taking so long to comment. I wasn't aware you were here...my fault. Fantastic stuff and a true dream journey. You really hit the nail on the head with the theme, music, feel, art and everything in between. Kudos. :star::star::star::star::star:2009-10-13 01:50:00

I have to say what an absolutely awesome job ScoutsBoo has made of recording my Caverns of the Snow Queen level. I love it.
