Sheepland

Archive: 11 posts

So for the past 4-5 days, I've been working on a level I like to call Sheepland. It has sheeps, and then there's this evil sheep called sheeper, and you have to kill him. It's COOL, check it out nao. It's near New Zealand on the globe.2009-06-10 05:47:00

at the beginning of the level, the gas is a little above the platform. oops. D:

the sheep are really cute, especially the one holding the ball swing from its mouth

The wall climb felt kind of slow, especially since its in a race. I think just getting rid of the pause on the pistons would make it better.

The spikes on those crushing blocks are very hard to see. Perhaps sticker them so they're more visible?

Some nice platformy bits there, but a very odd story IMO lol.

Hm, done already O_O.

SHEEP!

... Yeah, played it last night on your moon, would play now but, well, no time :O.

Gonna be funny to see how much you changed since last night, though...

Checked out this level tonight and it's really a challenging level. Not impossible but some of the obstacles you've set up are downright fiendish! I really liked it though.

Your sheep are adorable. Much friendlier than mine in Chroma Stone 1 and I love the herds and herds of them you have. They are everywhere! Really funny. I especially like the sheep shooter to help you cross the gorge. Hilarious and unique - also very practical. lol.

When entering the building it really feels like two levels put together. The first outdoor part being much more mellow and friendly and easy to navigate. Then BLAM the door shuts and the real challenge begins. Some of the jump challenges and those darn red swingy red circles seriously kept me on my toes and made me bring my A game. I'm not sure if mainstream players can handle the red circle swings and the rounded steps on the fire challenges though and the level rating may suffer. I do know many players are longing to play difficult levels and this should score very high with those types of players.

The boss timing is really fast. My only complaint is that you respawn in the layer where he can nail you. Had a few "cheap" deaths that way. Could you either move the checkpoint up to the front level to avoid this or change the plasma to the front plane?

The other thing I thought was funny was that you have the helper sheep with a unicorn horn. ???? Hugh? Made me laugh a lot after I finally realized he was the head sheep. I think it's the first single horned sheep I've ever seen in an LBP level.

Overall I'd say your level is challenging and best suited to experienced LBP players looking for a level to push their skills. I rated it 4 stars and hearted it - Thanks for sharing it!

I really enjoyed this level, but I haven't beaten the Boss

I agree with the above User about the Boss. His attacks are deadly and come so fast, by the time you respawned and have your bearings again, your dead. People like me like to take our time in some safe position to figure out a Boss's patterns. Of course that would remove a lot of the challenge, but also a lot of the frustration. Even if you gave some sort of safe spot, it would still be a tough Boss.

And I think you should at least put a gate in the entrance of the fortress. Seems a little odd for a fortress to have a whole wall missing.

The only other thing I have to say is those half-circle platforming bits with the Red felt were sooooooo annoying. I don't know if I'm the only one who felt this, but I would remove them. You have such talent in making nice traps and the rest of them are fine, but this was the only area where I dreaded playing through.

Anyway, good job on the level! I enjoyed what I played. I don't think I want to finish it though. That Boss was ridiculous and the rest of your level isn't a cakewalk either.

Thanks for the feedback, and I did put a safe spot in it. You can switch into the second layer after you spawn. I meant for you to switch layers between his attacks.

I think I'm going to make my next levels easier.

I think I'll take your advice with the spawn point and thanks for the positive feedback. I'm actually surprised that everyone is finding it such a challenge. I thought it was a little too easy when I was making it, but I've been playing lbp since the beta.

^The Second Layer!?

If I had only known that!!!

And you don't need to completely lower the difficulty in your next levels. Just make separate difficulties. For my levels I plan to always release an Easy and a Normal version.

For Sheepland and your future levels, try making a copy of them and putting Infinite Spawning Checkpoints, then publishing them as the Easy versions.
