Jump survival challenge - Updated with picture

Archive: 11 posts

I just completed my new level, jump survival challenge. It is like a jump challenge but it never ends and has more obstacles, meaning you must time your jumps. It has plenty of eyecandy and I worked hard because I wanted it to be popular.

I will include pictures soon and would love it if someone recorded a video of it for me.

F4F: I will give a review of a level to anyone who requests F4F. (As long as there isn't an overwhelming list of levels to do F4F with.)

Enjoy the level and have fun!!!

LEVEL NAME: Jump Survival Challenge

I'm gonna go and try it now

EDIT:

I played this for about a hour earlier lol

I love these simple but addictive levels (and so does the missus )

I managed to get the high score in the end of 228 but I will have another go tomorrow, I think I could get a lot more when I don't have the distraction of a missus and kids constantly talking to me while I was playing.

I can't seem to get a favourite music for this though and try and keep it a bit random when I select one each time.

Sometimes when you move back and forth on the left platform without actually jumping back over, it dissolves more than the one section. But that isn't really a problem if you don't mess about and get on with the job at hand

Nice level and it does what it does fine.

Hearted, 5 stared (I'm a sucker for these levels ) and tagged Timing

I like this. I generally don't go for survival challenges, but this sort of challenge was interesting, I played it several times.

Pros:
+ Good design and use of materials. The MGS stuff is used well, rather than the "use colored grid stuff everywhere ever" approach used in so many level.
+ Good pacing of difficulty.
+ Challenging without being excessive.
+ Being able to choose music is nice.

Cons:
- The countdown seemed a little unnecessary, especially after multiple plays. You may want to shorten it a bit.

I gave it 4 stars and tagged it perilous.

F4F level is in my sig.

Awesome concept, but I agree that the countdown is not necessary. It's the kind of challenge that you'd play several times in a row, so being able to reset as quick as possible would be good. The plasma balls were so cheap the first time, but it's all in good fun. I don't normally play Challenge Levels, but this may merit another couple play-throughs. Also, I agree that the design was a nice use of the materials.

I have one question, though: what did you use for the floor material? It made the plasma material sound, but it was electrified.

You can do an F4F on my Aperture Science Level if you want, but I'll take just a playthrough...

Edit: Oh, forgot. 4 stars and tagged fun.

I read on these forums how to do it, but I don't remember where, so I'll just explain how to plasmify an object.

1.choose any material that can be exploded (Cardboard, Polystyrene, Spnge, Dissolve)
2.place a protected creature brain, set it to Vulnerable
3.place a leg on the material
4.shoot a plasma ball at it and pause
5.capture the plasmified material
6.make an emitter, set it to infinite, and choose the plasmified block
7.captured the emitted plasmified block
8.delete the other block, it disappears after 1 second

NOTE: if it doesn't collapse when the plasma ball hits, try hitting the leg or the brain with the plasma ball.

The material of it can be changed to anything you like. I used Gekko skin for it.

Played this the other day and for a pretty simple concept it's a great survival challenge. The MGS styled background looks great and it ramps up very nicely. Gave my x button a workout!

I rated it 5 stars. Thanks for sharing it!

I just played this about 20 times, its really addictive. As others have mentioned, the countdown isn't really all that necessary, and becomes annoying after many play-throughs. Also, this is just my personal preference, but I really don't care what music is playing, so if I had the choice I would make it something along the lines of "Go left for music choice and right for game". That way, I wouldn't have to walk through the little music section every time. It's all just a part of getting the game going as quickly as you can, so people don't become annoyed by the "introduction" in addition to the minor frustrations of losing repeatedly. The materials and lighting were fine, nothing to write home about but then again that isn't what this level is all about. On to the actual survival challenge. I've already mentioned the countdown, so that really isn't necessary. As people have said before, you can actually make two pieces of dissolve go away by walking back and forth. I'm guessing you used a one-shot proximity switch because of the way this happens. If you want to get rid of this problem, switch the proximity switch with a one-shot, inverted magnetic key switch, and place a magnetic key on each of the bubbles that spawn on the left side. That way, no matter how much the player runs back and forth on that platform, they will only take away one piece of dissolve at a go. Overall it is a very nice level, the hazards gradually getting harder makes it very replayable and less monotonous than most levels of this nature. I gave it :star::star::star::star:, I enjoyed it a lot.

Great use of the materials (your use of layers looks professional), and great you can choose the music. You could maybe double the options by putting some tracks/grab sponge on the ceiling.
The count down is a little annoying on replays. Why isn't the hole the player jumps down not just centered on the middle platform? The cup that holds the player should go right up to the top, as I jumped, and missed it and died on the floor.

I could only get 161 points I liked how the plasma balls sped up, it could be cool if the floor started to wobble like a see saw or something. What else happens after that?

How did you get the floor to kill you like a plasma ball?
It looks and sounds much better than electricity!

Cool mini game. 4/5 from me. :hero:

Search tjb0607 and go to the glitched object museum. It has four glitched shapes, including Anti-Color, Plasma, checkpoint thickness, and golfball thickness. It is copyable so you can shape the objects.
