The Sympathy Thread (Share your LBP horror stories)

Archive: 34 posts

I just spend all morning on my next level following on from the great pyramid, I'd build a crane, pipe network, outdoor space section, and was working on a conveyor belt.

when I tried to detach it from the floor the game crashed and when I restarted it I had lost not only the level but all the items I'd captured from it.

I really feel it was some of my best work. oh well 6 hours down the drain I guess.

Yeah it's harsh Groble, its happened to me loads. After anything major I build now, I save the level quit out and publish a locked version online for a backup 2009-06-08 16:11:00

Aw man sorry. But if you think that's bad, my brother lost 3 levels he spent like 3 months on yesterday. They all fail to load. They were really good too...2009-06-08 16:27:00

I once lost a full level, 80% complete. It took me around 3 weeks and then one day it failed to load, I sent off the save to MM in the hope they could fix it, but just restarted it anyway and it turned out better in the end.

The level was Siberia 3, and I wasn't a happy gadder at the time

Its best if you don't go really long times w/out saving, not just pressing "save level," since that really save into the main memory, but exiting to the pod and leting it save, and then going back to the level, since THAT can happen any time...

But to tell you the truth, sometimes is better to lose part of a level, or a level whole, most of the times the parts/ levels end up better if lost then rebuilt, and are usually done A LOT faster since you a;lready know what you're doing and how to doit, and might even think of ways of making it better while building it.

I'm so sorry to hear that - I feel your pain as well. I had a failed to load level error on Chroma Stone 3 and had to rebuild the entire thing from scratch. It had been 100% done and I was just testing it when it corrupted. I've since learned to backup to a flash drive.

The nice thing is when you build it again you can change all those little things you wanted to but were too committed to change in the first version. And it generally goes a lot faster. Hang in there!

Hey man, that really sucks. I think it's happened to most of us at one time, which doesn't help but we all know how you feel.

Based upon reading this thread, various others I've read recently and my own experience, I decided to write a basic tutorial on data loss and data backing up. I know none of it will help you with this, and you may already know it all but it might be worth checking out to save you from this again in the future.

Thread is here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=218187#post218187).

its gone a lot faster now. and rather than just building the bits (which I now know how to make) I'm building them into the level, so its going okay.

chin up, power through, all that jazz. woop

I need more sympathy! I spent weeks working on a Pokemon battle system like in the games and then my PS3 broke! And I don't feel like doing it again so I won't!2009-06-12 19:27:00

I feel your pain too. The first time it happened to me my ps3 is lucky it lived to see another day. Because there was a time when I probably would've taken it out in the street and gorilla stomped it. Luckily I'm mellowing in my old age.2009-06-12 21:22:00

I remember when I first got my PS3, it was christmas day, I'd been excited about LBP for ages so christmas morning got it all set up put in LBP and fizzt pfft... PS3 broke, and I had to wait the whole day before I could take it back becuase everywhere was shut.

I think this thread should be used for general sympathy and sharing all those bad luck stories

on my last level, i got the failed to load bug twice and everything came unglued. the failed to load was easy to fix (sent save to MM), but for the ungluing, i had to glue every single thing back to it's original spot. every light, every cog, every tiny piece of glass. just everything. it took me at least 3 hours to get it all glued. total pain in the sack2009-06-13 14:01:00

My worst one is from when I had started coming here, I was halfway through a level and I was picking up tips, and when I finished I played back and the first half played like ramp and the second played like The Bunker, so I had to delete it.

I think my secret is keeping my PS3 by a window that's broken and so always slightly open. But I keep my 360, PS3 and wii in the same place so it warms it up, and no, wii does not deserve a capital letter.

My whole level was destroyed. That's one down.

Second - I've had to go through my DMC Mission I level again with a toothcomb and reset emitters, re-glue, re-arrange and re-attach almost everything recently. Thankfully it gave me some time to make some design changes and tweaks, but it held me back for a bit...

I spent many hours on a level, saved it, then went to bed. Next day, I wake up and start working on it, but it's gone. Somehow, it got deleted completly. I thought "HOW COULD IT GET WORSE?!" then my power went out, corrupting my save game data. I had 90% or so completion DOWN THE DRAIN. I made a new game, and a long time later, I retry the level, only for it to get 10 plays, 2 stars, then get buried in H4H levels.

I have a horrible one.

The MGS level I'm currently working on (2nd time...) got corrupted when I was about 80% through with it.

And let me tell you, this level is DETAILED. You'll see when I publish it. The Gekko and Drebin's vehicle alone took hours. Plus I completely lost my LBP save, so I had to beat the story mode again, and collect every item again before I could even start to rebuild it.

The portions I had to re-do are slightly better then before, but still, it was the worst feeling ever.

To give you an idea of the details: On Drebin's vehicle, I enlarged a piece of it like 20x, and used the masking tape sticker to meticulously write "Eye Have You" Probably like 80-100 stickers, considerable load on a level that's overheating... but I don't care! It looks so good...

Umm...

On my latest "Starship Troopers" level I started getting direct PSN messages that the game was making people physically sick and they therefore were rating the game 1 star.

I had to tone down the "vomit" sounds so they weren't happening constantly throughout the entire game....

Ok, not really a "horror" story.... but darn funny!

My PS3 crashed as I was playing LBP, and wouldn't read discs at all after that. I sent it off for repair, but then I got it back again and it was totally dead. Just a black screen with no browser menus, no sound. Nothing. Those incompetent bar-stewards at Total Console Repair even had the cheek to include a message with the return delivery, stating "this console has been quality control tested". Bull!

I'm itching to get back to LBP again, but I suspect it's gonna be a while before my console gets fixed. The insurance company said I have to send it at least three times to TCR before I'm eligible for a replacement. I'm sure there's some sort of scam going on here, like they're trying to steal my hard drive so they can take credit for my LBP creations, or something like that. And no, I'm not paranoid...It's just that my thoughts are being monitored by a secret government agency, alright?

This happened to me when I first got my PS3. I just took it back to the store and exchanged it for a new one though so I lucked out, could this be a common problem? Anyone else experienced it?

Yes. Well, sort-of.

I was playing LBP when my game crashed and when i turned it on, my game file was corrupted, so i started new game, and finally, when i when i finally beat the game again it froze, and corrupted, so i restarted AGAIN, and then at the exact same point, it corrupted AGAIN!

It turns out that the toysRus i got it from accidentaly got a FULL shipment of dud discs.

Gues that took about 3 months to finally get the game going properly as the one i have now.

Hey, nice... I made a minor edit to False Idols III yesterday, after not touching it in a month and a half... added a single plank of invisible dark matter, and now it fails to load.

Luckily I don't have a copy of it on my moon, and I saved and published it after making the edit. It's also lucky that I have absolutely no money and can never buy a flash drive to back up my saves, which I shouldn't have to do in the first place. I also can't even use alt accounts for back up published copies either, since I have a bug that won't allow me to collect level keys.

First I accidentally delete Metal Slug Solid, and now this. There goes my masterpiece.

EDIT: Oh sweet Lord, I thank you for your mercy on me... I tried copying it back to my moon and pressing edit for the last hour before I posted this... I finally got in. I corner edited a few things, removed the dark matter strip, and removed two unnecessary bombs. Made some changes that had nothing to do with anything to try and change the state of the level. It has returned to me!

...but it's still telling me Failed to Load occasionally when I attempt to play the now-published version. I'm still scared D:

Hmm, let's see... I've had 5 levels corrupted (including one I THANKFULLY have copied), have had 3 costume corruptions, had to re-buy the God of War costumes (code from GS corrupted), accidentally have deleted several worthwhile levels (due to the expense of ignorance ), I completely missed the first week of LBP online (there goes my space suit) due to unresponsive Internet...

...and my first file was completely corrupted, making me unable to save data on it. I was forced to make another PSN and re-unlock everything. Oh! Also, I've had and still have several game freeze-ups, making me to force my PS3 off (not a wise idea ), which can result (and did result, with LBP) to profile corruption. Err... I'm not a lucky guy, aren't I?

I get freezes often too. I just hope my save data doesn't get corrupted...

I guess my horror story would be that I can never get anything to look good in create mode. I've got some good ideas which work fairly well, but I've never released them since I can't manage to make them look half-decent.

A day before the deadline of a contest in www.lbpforum.net, my level gets corrupted. 'Failed to load' level bug RAAAGE!

And the prize was a bunch of early LBP sketches from the devs themselves,

I really wanted the rainbow warrior audio object that you get in the 4x bit in The Collector's Lair, and after a long, long time (Due to lag) I eventually got it. Unfortunately, I also had the "Your profile is too large and cannot be saved." That was fine, though, because I wasn't planning on stopping playing for a while. Then, though, my mother quits my game for some reason and I lost the audio object I so desperately wanted. But just to make things worse, I'd also started a new level. I lost 4-5 hours of work. 2009-07-16 14:26:00

I just spent the past two hours of my life setting up wiring for a special set of lights. Not only did I do it wrong, I realized I could have done it in about five minutes a different way. None of that matters though, because I have to do it a new way now that will take even longer. I'm not too put off by it though, because the results are worth the effort. 2009-07-16 14:46:00
