Double Posting/Bumping - Guidelines

Archive: 27 posts

There have been a large number of individuals bumping their level showcase threads for no discernible reason. This thread will act as a guide as to when you can and cannot post consecutively in your showcase threads.
The following are acceptable situations for double posting:

When you have made substantial changes to your level. Examples include numerous bug fixes and new sections.

When you have uploaded media to your thread such as videos and screenshots.

When you have added a sequel to your level and have opted to keep it in a single thread rather than posting a new one.

When you have reached the character limit. This will rarely happen.

The following are unacceptable reasons for double posting:

You feel you have not received enough feedback.

You wish for some additional plays/hearts.

The most effective way to maximize feedback is to avail of the F4F (Feedback For Feedback) feature, whereby you can give feedback on the levels of other members in return for some on your own. For more information about F4F, click here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7962).

I suggest you also take a look at ConfusedCartman's thread on How to Maximize Level Feedback (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10692).

Finally, if you have any queries regarding the issue, ask in this thread or PM a member of the moderating staff.

Yep, all very true situtations. I have recently seen people bumping their threads for no reason at all despite them having a lot of feedbck. Nice one Killian.
What are the sites views on deleting your last post and replacing it with a similar style post but with something different added in?

It won't happen again. I've seen these guidelines now (was it always here?) and I promise to not bump ever again, unless stated acceptable.

I'm sorry.

Nice addition Killian,

although I can sometimes understand people bumping their threads since some of them do get overlooked at busy hours
wich makes them rapidly disappear to the bottom of the page with zero replies.

That's the same principle isn't it?
It does the exact same thing, bumping the old thread.
Except off course, if it follows the acceptable situations...I think

That falls under the "as long as you don't abuse it, it's OK to use" category.

Well, since it seems many people still don't know, i'll just post it in here.

People and staff members (mods/ admins), i can only use the PS3 browser to go online, so to make a really long post sometimes i have to multy-post since the PS3's textbox has a rather short character limit.
In such cases i writte "(out of space)" when almost out of space, or i abreviate it as "(oos)" when i barely have any space left.
There's nothing i can do about it.
I know its annoying, it annoys me as well, but as i said, i can't help it...

If it's pointless.

My understanding is that, in theory, you're supposed to do F4F to get replies on your level. so if you do F4F on someone elses level, they will be entitled to do the same for yours. Thus, you'd contributed to their level, and they will give you feedback- also effectively bumping.

But yeah, simply saying bump because you feel you don't have enough feedback is not permitted- instead participate in F4F- at least that's how I figure it.

I just got downratd for "bumping threads". The threads I commented on were about two weeks old, I think. but it makes no differancce to my question;

If I have somthing to say on a topic, but the thread about that topic is an old one, should I start a new thread, rather than using an old one?

Honestly, it depends on the specific situation. For example, if there's a thread on page 2 or 3 of the Forum Games section about posting funny .gif images, you should definitely post in that thread instead of making a new "funny .gif" thread. However, if that same thread hasn't been posted in for a month or more, a new thread would make sense.

"You feel you have not received enough feedback."

What if you have zero feedback and your topic has fallen off of the front page?

If it is a Feedback 4 Feedback topic you can find another F4F level, give it some nice feedback and ask them to give you some in return.

I guess I have been guilty of bumping my thread, but I was only responding to other posters within my thread. Rather than find each of them and respond personally. Is that a no no? I won't do it if it is. Just would like to know.
Thanks!

Yeah, you can copy the text from the double post into the first post and delete the second one by clicking edit and delete.

Use the multi quote button to quote two messages at once.

I had a look at your showcase threads and noticed nothing wrong. If someone responds to your thread and you respond to their comment then there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

okay, I understand most of this, but what if my level's name changes slightly, and I have to inform those wishing to play it that the name is different from the thread name?2010-01-11 11:18:00

You can edit your first post, click on the "Go Advanced" button, and change your thread name from there (as well as edit your first post to change the level name inside the post).2010-01-11 11:41:00

I'm new here, I've tried using the showcase section for my levels both with and without F4F. It seems as though if you post a non F4F level it will drop off the first few pages very quickly as people scramble to trade in the F4F system. On top of that the official answer in this thread as to what to do when your post sinks with zero feedback is to use F4F to send people there.

So if I've got a non F4F post, is it possible to change it to F4F? Also, is it acceptable etiquette for new users to go back to threads where they naively gave feedback for 'free' on an F4F thread and ask for feedback in return?

And what's the point in the non-F4F option anyway? It seems a bit futile.

Please don't misapprehend me; the system is fine. It's just that maybe it should be more clear to newcomers that this forum section is more mercenary than it looks

The F4F option is your best bet for getting feedback from other members. Basically if you do a F4F you agree to return the play and feedback to another creator.

Some creators don't have the time to participate in F4F and opt out making a regular level showcase thread.

I wouldn't say it's mercenary, it's about a commitment you make. You have the option of not doing it too but that has drawbacks as you've mentioned above.

To change a non F4F level thread to a F4F thread, you should be able to go to the opening post, click go advanced and there should be an option to turn the F4F option on.

I guess I'm guilty of this crime, and as far as i'm aware i've only done it once. Every other time there has been a legitimate reason to post, such as responding or presenting new information.

Thanks for the post, it actually clears a lot of things up. I'll be more careful in future...

Quick question... If and when our levels are upgraded from the regular level showcase to the "Cool Levels" thread can we repost the original post in the regular level showcase thread? I've received a lot of tips, advice, and notices regarding bugs and whatnot and I'd hate for the flow of that information to slow down. I noticed that the "Cool Levels" don't seem to receive as much feedback (the replies are a lot less frequent). I was just curious...2012-08-09 18:03:00

No. That would be considered a duplicate thread.
