Mobile Style

Archive: 25 posts

Alright, we've installed a very low bandwidth style configured specifically for mobile devices, along with an addon that detects if you are using a mobile device. If you are, it automatically loads the Mobile style instead of whatever you were using. This option isn't saved, however; when you get home on your PC, you will be able to use the style that you normally use without any issues. I don't think many people view the site on a mobile device, but this should be helpful to those who do. 2008-09-02 02:55:00

It was worth it. A few people view the forum regularly on their iPhones and the like, so we decided we'd support it. We try to be as flexible as possible.

Whilst not being as nice to look at, it does seem easier to read. Logging in seems a bit arkward though.

It doesn't attach a sig.

Yeah, like he said, it's pretty low bandwith. That's alright, it's still easier to navigate.2008-09-03 00:17:00

Used it from work on my phone today. It was MUCH faster than the regular site. This is a huge improvement for me. Thanks again!2008-09-03 03:01:00

Awesome! I know it doesn't look great, but the aim was to have it load quickly. I'm glad to hear it works well.

Thanks for doing this. I frequent the site a lot when I'm away from my computer through my iPhone.

I couldn't get it to work right on my Sprint HTC Touch with Windows Mobile 6.1 Through IE or Opera 9. They both work fine... they load the full desktop version of the site, even though I have Opera set to identify as a mobile device.
Usually, from what I've seen, a lot of sites use a different address like http://pda.edmunds.com/. Is there an alternate URL associated with this mobile style? If not, I'm not worried. Browsing full pages in Opera and the updated IE is pretty much a breeze.

I stand corrected. it works fine for me. only the main page shows as desktop version. writing from phone.

Yeah it is really cool but question if you switch it on your PC, how do you switch back to another one?

Yeah never mind figured it out, just log out and log back in works. I was freaking for a sec. But yeah very cool.

I've tried because I needed to do some modding....no way to do it that I can see. Maybe through the User CP?
