Three levels

Archive: 7 posts

Hello LBPcentral. I have three levels for you guys to play. Please give some feedback on all three levels

Grassland Platformer - Formerly known as Creature Quest platformer, this is my new updated version of it. I added scenery, removed the creature quest, and added a new section to the level.

Button-bashing contest - A level for up to four players. Try to outscore the other players by bashing the R1 button faster than they do.

Four-directional rocket car playground - More of an object showcase than a level, it has a rocket car that moves left, right, up, and down. If you complete the level, you get the rocket car plus a dispenser.

Search for '@robinlint' in LittleBigPlanet to find all of these levels.

Bumping the thread because it got to page 2 without any replies, and the last time people viewed the post i hadn't added the screenshots yet. I hope this is not against the new Bumping guidelines.2009-06-08 15:47:00

I played this through the other day and it's interesting. From an artistic point of view you have a bunch of different styles and materials going on. It's hard to find a consistent theme. I'd suggest finding one thing and working around it as your levels theme or subject matter. There's just too much stuff and sort of randomness for me to give any other constructive criticism than simplfy your theme.

You have a lot of dark matter that's showing. It's sort of brings the polish of the level down when you can see all the dark matter holding stuff up. Sometimes it can't be helped but in this case you have a ton of it and it would look better if it were covered somehow.

The water buffalo stampede is really chaotic. It's funny for the first few seconds but then it's hard to get out of.

The best part of the level is when it turns green and you have the spinning wheel puzzle. Although what to do in that particular puzzle isn't clear and the group I was playing with got frustrated very quickly with it. Could you give a clue or adjust the color of the switches somehow to help players figure out what to do.

I did notice you took out the creature part - which helped. Keep building levels and learning new ways to do things and I think your levels will be even more fun to play. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the feedback. The theme of the level is simply a platformer, set in a grassy landscape. About the dark matter, which are you talking about? The blocks that hang above the bats or when you grab the sponge there is dark matter above you? About the buffalo stampede, i'm going to keep that in the level, but why was it hard to get out of?

And the spinning wheel puzzle, there is an arrow pattern on the wall that you have to input on the top three switches, which makes the dissolve material dissolve. The bottom switches just control the wheels. I've noticed many people had trouble finding out how to solve it, when playing with others online. Perhaps i'll simplify it.

Yes, the creature part didn't work very well, because you do not see the creature as it travels through the level, and in the final version of Creature Challenge Platformer (the one before Grassland Platformer), it had a bug (basically, the buffalo's escaped from the wall and took the rewards you get for completing the creature challenge with them)

It's hard to see through the buffalo and my friend ended up in that plane and was squished. You can leave it in - it's your level after all. Just letting you know what my impression of it was. The dark matter is in blocks near the top areas of the level - without playing it again and jotting down every instance I see it I can't tell you exactly. Play through it and if you can see it - so can players. It's not necessary to fix it in this level but for future levels it's something you can keep in mind to add another level of polish to your level design.2009-06-22 23:22:00

I just played this one. The first thing I noticed is that you put a lot of variety in your materials. Which is fine if your just going for a platforming theme, but there really isn't that much platforming going on. You have a few sections, but in between there's really not much to do. There's a part where you have swinging sponges. It's ok, but I thought it would be better if you spaced them out so they don't hit each other, and put the bubbles there in a way you can try for a combo. There is a spot where you come to a wall that you have to grab to progress. I really could see no point in this wall. I thought the part with the bulls was pretty funny though. Now I liked your puzzles. I thought that part was pretty good. It took me a minute to figure it out. Once I noticed the arrows it hit me. The next one I tried to take the top first. That didn't work, so I tried the bottom. The race part I like that you have different paths to take, but the one I chose was way to easy. All I had to do was run. I think maybe you should put each path a different difficulty, but at least give something to do besides run and pick up bubbles. It would've been better if I at least had to jump for the bubbles, and try to string combos or something. I didn't go back and try the other paths, so I don't have any comments on them. Overall I think it's a good start I just think it needs more to do in some spots.

I also tried the button bash level, and the rocket car one. The rocket one is really not my kind of level, as I get bored really fast with nothing to do. The design of the rocket car is pretty good I just think you should find a way to put it in a level. The button bash one also I get bored really fast, as all you do is push the button. My idea for a level like this would be to put two pistons in each section, and have them alternate up and down. What you would do is run from side to side grabbing each side for your bubbles. It would start of slow and ramp up in speed. I don't know. It's not that I think it's bad the way it is it's just that it's not for me. I'm the type of person that needs something to do besides push a button.

You don't have to give feedback for all my levels. I really just figured you'd pick one. That would've been fine. What I suggest is to pick levels from the showcase that have the F4F heading, that sound like they would interest you, and give them feedback. Do as many as you can because it's important to get as many opinions as you can, because most of what feedback is is opinion, and everyone has a different one.
