Game Recommendation
Archive: 25 posts
I have recently come upon enough money to buy one new game, and have set my sights on Fallout 3. My parents are very iffy on M rated games, so I was wondering if anyone knows if it is really appropriate. I'm really looking forward to this game, so any advice on it would be appreciated. | 2009-06-07 08:40:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
Not right now, theres a game of the year edition with 5 DLC expansions bundled in out in october waiting for that one would make more sense financially. | 2009-06-07 08:55:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Hrm, that does sound like the better deal. Any other game recomendations, then? I can't stand this money burning a hole in my pocket . | 2009-06-07 08:57:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
What sort of games do you like? | 2009-06-07 10:14:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Platformers, RPG, First person shooters, Adventure, that sort of thing. | 2009-06-07 10:18:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
I don't what games you already own, but Oblivion, Ratchet and Clank may suit you. Maybe Mirror's Edge, but it can be quite frustrating. Folklore is a nice underrated RPG, but it's a game where you should pay attention to the story, otherwise it's not much fun. Uncharted, is obviously good. I can't really recommend any FPS games, because I don't play them. : ) Oh, and something quite different, but very nice is Flower. (Download only, though) If you have a backward compatible PS3 or even a PS2 Okami, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are the way to go. | 2009-06-07 10:33:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Ha. I have Ratchet and Clank, Folklore, AND Mirror's Edge . From what I've heard with all the buzz about the new pack this week on SotC and Ico, I think those will be my targets, if my local store has them. | 2009-06-07 10:38:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
Do you have a Wii? It's platforming kingdom over there. You should play Super Mario Galaxy (second best game of this generation right behind LBP imo). Klonoa remake (that was the best PS1 platformer, all remade beautifuller). Wario Land Shake It is also a very freaking nice 2D platformer, all handdraw and the animations are like freaking Walt Disney quality. | 2009-06-07 17:52:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
You should buy a ton of stuff on the psn store. | 2009-06-07 17:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
Bionic commando was awesome. Shame no one ever talks about it. | 2009-06-07 19:38:00 Author: Pinkcars Posts: 380 |
There are a few on the PS Store that I'd recommend. Bionic Commando Rearmed is amazing and one of the best games I've played this gen. Pixeljunk Eden is also excellent. In terms of retail games, if you like RPGs I'd recommend giving Valkyria Chronicles a look. I haven't really spent enough time playing it but what from what I've seen so far it's fantastic. Also Prince of Persia is well worth getting since you're into platformers though it is a strange platformer in that you will "die" often but you aren't punished for dying. My blog has a review if you wish to read it. It is harsh but fair. The game is enjoyable, I just felt it could have been better. Fallout 3 is probably the most mature game I've ever played. The gore and the dark tone of the world actually bothers me and makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't mind scary games, I've just beat Dead Space today and have started playing again. But there's something about that game... the bleakness of the world makes me feel depressed. No other game has ever affected me to such an extent. It's not a bad game but I don't really enjoy playing it due to the bleakness of the world and as such, it's probably not a great buy if your parents don't like you buying mature games. Oh yeah, if you don't have Oblivion and like RPGs, GET IT! It's my favourite game this gen. Coming up to 300 hours of time in the game across 4 different characters and I've only barely started Shivering Isles (a huge expansion pack for the game)! | 2009-06-07 21:00:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
Hm. How much is Oblivion? | 2009-06-08 08:14:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
I got the GOTY edition recently for 25 euro . | 2009-06-08 09:41:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
Wow, really? That seems pretty cheap. Only about 35 dollars. | 2009-06-08 09:45:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
Yeah was new as well, just a shop here in Ireland called GAME had it for that price... was 30 in Gamestop. | 2009-06-08 09:57:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
Wow, really? That seems pretty cheap. Only about 35 dollars. This game is endless hours of fun. You can literally put 200 hours in there if you want. It's a steal really. . | 2009-06-08 17:43:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

I went to my local Gamestop today and was lucky (and shocked) enough to see that they had copies of Shadow of the Colossus ($14.99), Ico($19.99), AND Oblivion ($35.95 GOTY Edition), plus I didn't have to pay a cent with the credit from trade-ins after all. | 2009-06-09 08:20:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
Oh my God, you're in for a blast! . | 2009-06-09 16:01:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

You lucky dog. I still have yet to find Ico. | 2009-06-09 17:08:00 Author: Code1337 Posts: 3476 |
You found Ico AND SotC?! *is jealous* | 2009-06-09 17:13:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
HAHA nice! Oblivion is epic, Shadow of the Colossus is even more epic and ICO... well I didn't really like ICO but you might. Dragging a mute girl around by the hand is not my idea of fun at all... especially when you have to protect her and worry about her at all times... got some pretty intense anxiety while playing it. Still as I said you might like it. Oblivion is a major time-suck but is easy enough to get back into if you leave it for a while. Don't expect your first character to be your main character. I'd create a character and play it for a few hours and get used to the levelling system (may need a wiki guide for that... it's pretty weird) and the gameplay in general. Then when you have a decent feel for the game, start again. At the end of the initial dungeon you'll come to the exit which will be surrounded by a foggy green light. Save the game here and never delete that save. You can edit your character completely when you try to leave so it's very useful for starting again if you don't want to repeat the first dungeon. In terms of creating a character, I always use the random generation and wait until I find one I like the look of. I don't have the patience or inclination to go through all the sliders some of which change a number of facial aspects and can undo some of the work you've already done. Some advice would be to do the first few Mages Guild quests first so that you gain access to the Arcane University and can make your own spells and enchanted items. My favourite quest-line in the game is the Thieves Guild... it's just fantastic. Dark Brotherhood is pretty good and the main quest-line is quite good also. One piece of advice for the main questline, DO NOT give Azura's Star away, it is far too useful! I'm not sure how much advice to give you... I could give you tonnes but don't want to ruin the game for you. If you want more just ask . Or search for your answer here: http://www.uesp.net/ ^Excellent, extremely extensive and detailed Oblivion Wiki. First time players page (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:First_Time_Players) Oh and for Shadow of the Colossus, do not under any circumstances look up how to beat any of the Colossi online. The game is only rewarding or truly enjoyable if you figure it out for yourself. | 2009-06-09 17:32:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
Remember in Oblivion that the quests don't have level requirements like in some RPGs, a lot of people never bother with the main quest and move straight onto the side-quests If you want to find some fun side-quests i recommend you try to join one of the guilds - theres the Fighter, Mage, Theif and Dark Brotherhood. Joining the Mage or Fighter guild is pretty straight forward but you'll have to do some detective work in-game to find the other 2 | 2009-06-09 17:53:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Thanks everyone. Right now I'm stuck on the Colossus salamander in the giant pit that spits lightning at you. I hate that guy... Anyway, now that I've found some games, can a mod close this? | 2009-06-09 18:51:00 Author: iiiijujube Posts: 594 |
