Favorite PSP game?

Archive: 42 posts

I've decided to make a favorite psp game thread as the psp is getting dangerously little love.

For me it's a toss up between MGSO and MHF2. Monster Hunter would probably win due to the fact to have to be entirely hardcore to play it, and with friends it's an intense experience

The psp MGS have a ton of replay value. You can recruit prople to try and establish a new military (Ie: outer heaven). building an army can be more fun then sneaking sometimes.

I know it will, with the obvious multiplayer component, but I have this feeling that when the story ends, I'll go back to it once in a while, but I'll keep building and playing levels on lbp psp as long as the psp isn't outdated...but we'll see...2009-06-07 06:52:00

Probably God of War: Chains of Olympus.

It was the only game I honestly enjoyed on the PSP, and was also the only reason I kept the console.

Crisis Core. It's just so awesome. MPO has deep gameplay mechanics to it. And the "scan for wifi spots to recruit soldiers" is the coolest psp feat I've seen yet. I thought recruiting soldiers by dragging them to hotspots was boring as hell but after watching the peace walker trailer you can clearly see that this has been made much easier with fulton extraction right on the spot. It's going to be good times!2009-06-07 16:37:00

The PS3 version is a remake of the PSP game but without the incredibly awesome level editor. If you didn't like the PS3 game you won't like the PSP on either though.

The thing is that with Gripshift many won't "get it". They go trying this game thinking it's an arcade racer or some Mario Kart-ish game. It's not. It's a unique game of a genre that doesn't really exist, a genre I would baptise "racing puzzle" or again "adventure racing".

I never liked crisis core. It was so full of one winged angel fan service crap. I also hated how you leveled up on a lottery system. I would grind for days and not level up once, but then I would kill two enemies back to back and level twice.

Easily Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. Love that game! Actually finished it 100%, which is pretty difficult... have yet to finish Symphony of the Night tho...

Wipeout Pure as another favourite, love LocoRoco and Gripshift is pretty good as well. Pirates is another. But CV: DXC takes the gold . Literally one of the best, most enjoyable and rewarding games I've ever played.

Have you played Symphony of the night? it's another great castlevania. I play it on my psp.

I love the Rock Band series (due to the fact that I actually drum) and portable just makes it better! It may not be super interactive and fun but it still is good fun on the road. Great time killer for long road trips especially if you like the genres of music.

Sorry off topic here, but I'm level 14 on this site and don't have enough for the basic bundle, much less the ultimate...and you seem to have a lot of stuff and still have points...how?

Anyways, might have to look into that then (RB Unplugged), but I've got too much to get to get it yet...maybe the inevitable sequel...

I'm way old here, returning. (Check my join date) I used to be on the first page I had thousands of points, when you spend points, your level goes down.2009-06-07 22:57:00

Oh, I see...that makes sense then. I didn't know spending points caused one's level to drop, that was probably the most confusing part...2009-06-07 22:59:00

Yeah I used to be like level twenty something. But back on topic, yeah I highly suggest if you liked Rock Band get Unplugged, OR Save your money for Rock Band : Beatles. (Looks amazing)2009-06-07 23:01:00

I want Beatles Rock Band, but then I want a psp go too, with all the psp games coming out (no psp...yet...).

My parents might get me Rock Band Beatles, so I'm definitely planning on buying the psp (what kind depends on amt of money I've got by the time lbp psp's out...)

Yeah SOTN is an unlockable in Dracula X Chronicles... yes, the full game is an unlockable .

It's good but I prefer the straight forward level based style of Dracula X to the exploration style of SOTN. The bosses in DX are much better than those in SOTN which I felt were pretty easy, as long as you were levelled up enough you can take them on and put no effort into avoiding their attacks and still beat them. To beat the bosses in DX you have to learn their attacks and make sure to have the right sub-weapon with you to beat them more easily (though you can beat them all using just the whip).

Also DX uses a whip and has no levelling up but I actually quite like that about the game, there is no micro-management whatsoever, you don't upgrade as you progress so you can focus on improving your skills as opposed to finding a new weapon or piece of armour to pick up the slack. There is a much great feeling of reward on beating DX Chronicles.

Also the game looks fantastic and has amazing music (SOTN does too ).

DX Chronicles is the first Castlevania game I played so perhaps I just have a soft spot for it but I definitely do prefer the straight-forward levels to a huge castle to explore.

I wouldn't really say it was any smaller, it has that slidy thing that makes it bigger when you need to use the buttons

How different is it from patapon 1? I doubt I could justify buying more patapon.

The gameplay is exactly the same, but you get more unit types. You also get a Hero character, which is a single Patapon who can change class and gets a special attack if you hit the notes perfectly during Fever. The Tree of Life is also a lot different, you can Level up your Patapons with materials or you can change their type.

You also get a multiplayer mode with 4 hero Patapons. It's tough.

Edit : On topic, I have to say my favorite PSP game is definitely Castlevania : The Dracula X Chronicles. Unlike most people who have bought the game, I actually enjoy the remake a lot more than SoTN. The Boss Rush mode is pretty addicting and there's lots of unlockables and cool functions (such as being able to change the music that plays on each stage!) plus you get SoTN and the original Rondo of Blood. The final boss did not disappoint... minor spoilers : to get the best ending, you have to beat a much tougher final boss.

I prefer the remake too man . It's awesome. You finish it 100% yet?

It'd probably be Crisis Core for me. I know the lottery level up system is all based on luck, but I just really liked the game. Then again, I like most Final Fantasy games I play.

I also really like Patapon 2, WipEout Pulse and I'm enjoying LocoRoco 2 at the moment.

Yeah, I hit 100% a while ago. I play the Boss Rush Full or Stage 8 every once in a while. I'm considering starting a new game to get proper Boss Rush times... I "cheated" the rush to get all the music items quickly and used Maria, so my high scores are unbeatable using Richter.

Cool yeah is a great game. I never really used Maria, well for a little while to try her out but played everything using Richter the first time. I prefer having more health to Maria's speed.

Must check my high score for boss rush mode... .
