BELOW THE ROOT - Chapter 2 : Along the Roots (updates next project!)

Archive: 3 posts

Fresh off of Chapter 1 revisions and a brand new Chapter 3, the next thing I want to do before going into Chapter 4 is to update Chapter 2.

This will be an ongoing list of changes and possible changes (feel free too give the level a go and give recommendations).

THE LIST:

- The "rewards" tree that rewards you with points from collecting all the shells; this will be remade. I have a better less therm-eating idea in mind that will allow me to speed the elevator up conciderably.
- I need to fix the mouth on the gnome at the entrance to the gnome village.
- I will add CY stuff to everything
- The falling leaves during the bird flight will be done better now that I know about "ANGULAR VELOCITY"
- Global lighting will be added
- Better camera angles will be used
- Right now there are almost no cutscenes on the mouths. ALL mouths will get a cutscene.

... will continue this list when I think of more stuff
Cheers all and try out my New Chapter 3 level because it needs plays!

So are you reworking them all? You're in a vicious circle there mate!! I played my early levels a couple of weeks ago and although they weren't up to the standard of my newer levels they had a charm to them :-). I had the idea of reworking them, but I saw them as a clear path to how I had improved over the time.

I'd much rather see a new set of levels from you to be honest. You're a great creator. But that's only my 2 pence (cents)!

The remake (or fixes rather) of Chapter 1 took place over a couple of months and I finally gave it a last push in a 4-5 hour segment. The only reason it seemed like I spent alot of time on the fixes was because someone kept trashing it after publish. So I waited a week and asked for some solutions.

But that 5-7 days I waited, I took Chapter 3 from 40% to 95% completion.

Anyways what I'm getting at is the fixes were't a big distraction and even though they took place over a couple of months, maybe a total of 8-10 hours went into them (if that).

If I spent 1 day fixing and polishing Chapter 2, I don't think that will take me away from Chapter 4 at all. Chapter 2 has some glaring fixes that are needed IMO (but I am always way too picky about my own creations, my parents probably used to tell me that I never did a good enough job at something )

There were other "Domestic" reasons as well why Chapter 3 took so long. We won't talk about that though:blush:

And I hope chapter 3 doesn't disappoint, it might. It is more of an "Event" level where a partial storyline climactic scene takes place. I wanted it to be more platformer but it ended up being really balanced between puzzle, platforming, story, and visuals. I intended it to be longer but the therm got a little nasty with me this time.

Chapter 2 taught me how to make a real long platforming level and Chapter 4 will be the same (but much different ).

And I don't think that chapter 2 needs enough fixes to warrant a new level thread so just keep an eyeout for the word (revisited) in the title.

And the prequel is fine for me at the moment, no plans to change anything there.
