Hey PB, sorry to hear about your dad.
Have you been able to talk to him yet after it happened?

People do recover from heart attacks, I think this site has some useful info on recovery:

I'm very sorry to hear this happened. The most encouraging thing I can say is that your father has survived the worst part which is the attack itself, for which in itself is a blessing. People can recover from heart attacks, it may take a while, a change in lifestyle and some understanding from friends and family around him, but it may not be as bad as you possible fear. Im no doctor of course and I've no position to tell you how your father will be but I hope all the best for you. Stay strong and help your mother out as much as possible over the coming weeks.2009-06-05 15:34:00

I know this is a very scary and worrisome time but have faith.
People do recover from heart attacks. To survive the initial attack is a positive. Under proper medical supervision it is very possible to achieve recovery I've seen it many times. Stay positive and strong.

my uncle died of a heart attack 2 years ago ( DO NOT LET THAT LET YOUR FAITH FALL)

like others said the worst is the intial attack which my uncle died in because he was alone in a hotel room so no one could help me but other whys it wouldnt have killed him.

but after the attack there is a very great chance for recovery.

I wish you the best!

Best wishes and prayers for his health.

If it's so far so good, then I'm inclined to side with everyone so far and say you should remain optimistic. The tests are good, if there are problems then they will catch them quickly and correct them so he can have the speediest recovery.

The right course of action might rest with the medical staff's conclusions, but you can remain fairly faithful he can have a full recovery. Medical technology has come a long way.

It's true that surviving the heart attack itself is a good first step. Only time will tell but the best thing to do is stay positive, have hope, try to keep his outlook positive too and support the rest of your family as they need. Also - take care of yourself too. You can't help if you're not doing ok yourself. Don't be afraid to talk about it with people you trust too. Just having someone to talk to can be the most therapeutic thing in the world.

Best wishes to you and your dad. My thoughts are with you.

My grandfather had a heart attack that eventually resulted in a quadruple bypass (more (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronary_artery_bypass_surgery)). He had to do a ton of recuperation, but eventually he healed right up. Today he's around 75 years old and one of the top carpet salesmen for Costco in the country - he runs around to homes and talks with people, loads his trunk with carpet samples, and does a ton of other work. He is now very healthy. It depends on the severity of the attack, but I think it's safe to say that your father will be fine.2009-06-06 08:33:00

Just been to see him, it was a mild warning heartattack, the doctor tells me he is going to make a full recovery and will enter rehab on Monday to sort his lifestyle and diet out.

It just goes to show you though, my Dad doesn't smoke, is young, eats healthy, hes a vegetarian, hes quite fit because hes a builder and hes had a heartattack >_< goes to show it can happen to anyone.

When i saw him in the cardio ward the nurses had shaved his chest so they can stick the pulse moniters on him

Shaved Chest = LOL
