"Save level"
Archive: 10 posts
My suggestion is that the "save level" button should save your level. Not to RAM - that's not "saving". It goes to the hard disk. At the same time I press the "save game" button, not later on in the background. Crazy, outside-of-the-box kinda concepts I know, and I'm not sure the LBP world is ready for it, but that's my suggestion... I'm really sick of it not working properly. It's pathetic that save level doesn't save to the hard disk immediately. Basic interface useability - don't mess with people's mental models. I would gladly forego any upcoming DLC or patch - yes, even the legendary "big one", honestly I would - for a save level button that I can trust. [/rant] Yeah, so I just lost some more work in create mode. Not much but it was really fiddley annoying stuff that will take ages to reproduce. Come on MM, it doesn't have to be this way. | 2009-06-04 21:51:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I guess it could help out with a lot of save problems, but maybe Mm don't have the level saving thing like that because they might not be able to make the game do that or something? | 2009-06-04 22:03:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
maybe Mm don't have the level saving thing like that because they might not be able to make the game do that or something? My suspision is close to that. I guess that to save anything they have to resave the entire profile and they decided this would take to long, even though it's only a few meg. I'd happily take that 15s hit for reliability. And if LK is right it's actually not possible for MM, then my suggestion goes to out to Sony to upgrade their save game API in the system software. And add in a mutex between "turn off system" and HD access while you're at it. | 2009-06-04 22:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
ya! i agree! I've lost hours worth of stressful creation a bunch of times because of my ps3 freezing while im making a level. | 2009-06-08 23:45:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Yeah I would really love this. I can't remember how many times my game has frozen or my file didn't save (before when the "Your file can't be saved" message wasn't coming up) and I've had to restart what I already did. Nothing annoys me more than wasted time. | 2009-06-09 00:49:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Just publish it online locked every few hours. It's the best way. | 2009-06-09 00:51:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
killian, that doesn't fix the saving to volatile memory issue. It's simply bad UI design and it's a legitimate complaint. But, I was well aware of this "feature" before the event and I know exactly how much is my fault and how much is the system's fault. Plus I used my tags I added a detailed tutorial on data backup (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12403) earlier today (still WIP), which will hopefully help all those who aren't so savvy about the integrity of their data. | 2009-06-09 00:58:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Blame our ritalin driven society that complains when they freaking wait for 15 seconds in a game. They thought they were cool hiding the save times, like many devs think background loading is cool in all situations. THEY CAN make a proper save (that would have ended up easier to debug and more stable) but they decided to sacrifice quality instead of not listening to people stupid complains. You guys have your pills so please freaking take them and shut up. It's sad that Media Molecule needs to compensate for you. . | 2009-06-09 15:06:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

Back in my day, you had to wait till the cassette fast forwarded to the right spot before you could even start loading your game. Actually I barely remember that, but still... Bloody everything at your fingertips instantly broadband information revolution spoiled society of today. Maybe they could just show flashing lights and butterflies carrying bombs making loads of wooshing noises for those 15 seconds, to distract the feeble-minded. | 2009-06-09 16:07:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
