Will you buy a PSP Go?

Archive: 52 posts

With the new PSP released, will you buy the PSP Go which is digital download only?

If you can't decide, don't vote. I forgot that option and can't edit it. Woops.

I think so...I'm still debating it in my mind...price point might be an issue for me too...I have to wait until it comes out to see if I even have enough...2009-06-04 02:47:00

Hooray! First to vote. LBP for PSP is enough reason for any priced PSP for me. 2009-06-04 02:50:00

No "on the fence" option for deciding between the go and the psp 3000?

Trying to edit poll I forgot the don't know option! Though it's not much of a great option anyway haha. Decide!!! Though I can't decide myself. I love the new look and size of the PSP Go... but I prefer physical media :/

Usually I'd say me too...but that's mostly because I can't use my credit card on psn. Since it should work with psn cards, I actually prefer it, no switching umds!2009-06-04 02:55:00

I don't know, I'm not too fond of the digital only thing. I think that would mean there's only one source to buy from and I like finding deals on games since I don't have much money to waste so it wouldn't really work well for me.

Edit: Hopefully there is a way to convert UMDs to "digital."

This too. Plus I love trading in old games for new. I wouldn't be able to afford most of my games otherwise. But with the new PSP I can't... so it's real hard to decide

1- I can't encourage the concept of "digital distribution only". It is not convenient and customer friendly enough.

2- It's too expensive for my tastes.

3- I already have a PSP 2000

So yeah, I won't touch this with a ten foot pole!

You know, I'll just vote go. My mom hates my games, but never lets me sell any of them, so the only problem with me is price and the price of the games.2009-06-04 03:08:00

Nope. There's way too much coming out that I'm going to be buying (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3, Halo 3: ODST, Left 4 Dead 2 and Uncharted 2: Among Theifs, to name just a few) and I fancy a new gfx card for my computer. I cannot afford to buy it. Even if I could, though, I'm unsure as to whether or not I would, because it seems like it's just the same, but with internal memory.2009-06-04 03:35:00

Heh, nothing wrong with checking out the competition.

Eh yeah, I'm leaning towards a psp3000 I really can't be bothered with downloads everywhere. Well, maybe, if you could have something like steam on the pspgo.

I like digital media but i have no idea whether to get pspgo or 3000

If one is entirely digital media then i'd question how many games are going t be available for download. I really don't want to be missing out on a game if the developer decides to make it umd only.

And will we be able to port umd games onto the pspgo somehow?
I had to buy the umd of locoroco because my ancient psp can't hold 2 downloads at once, i don't want to have to sell that game if i get a new psp.

I wouldn't mind it being download only (assuming you can buy download codes like games in store for money and don't have to rely on credit cards), but in my opinion it's just too expensive.

And Sonys $ to ? conversion skills are still very poor. >:|

My question would be - will using the existing PSP with a really large Memory stick Dual Pro have the same functionality?

If there's additional functionality I don't have now, I would probably upgrade so I could have both. But if there's no additional functionality, there would be no point.

I've already got a PSP1000 that rarely gets used so its really not worth
forking out a few hundred quid for a new model plus I hate digital distribution.

I have a nice (still shiny) phat, and I haven't got the newer ones, they're pointless IMO.

Well if price isn't a problem for you and you're fine with digital content only (no UMD) I would say go for the go! But that's just me...I would also wait until gaming sites post full reviews of the go as well...2009-06-04 17:59:00

hmmm, I love the result of this poll. I'm drooling at the idea that I might be right thinking it grossly represent what people generally think.

It's weird, I used to desperately want a PSP and before that a gameboy etc. and I know I would have got so much use out of it but never could afford it. Now I could easilly afford one, I can't think when I'd get it out to use, it just wouldn't fit in my life.

I guess I've completely missed out on mobile gaming now

I'm not really sure about upgrading or not. I still have a PSP 1000. I'm quite skeptical about the fact you'll have to download games instead of buying them from a store. I think that has a lot of problems. Though I still haven't seen much at all of the PSP Go yet, so I'm undecided.2009-06-04 20:44:00

Already have a PSP but wont be getting PSP Go. Far too expensive! Just buy a 16GB card. I do like the fact that all new games will be on the store. I do prefer downloads to physical medium. For ease of use, no need to switch discs and it can never get scratched/break... you can just download it again if it gets corrupted or whatever2009-06-04 21:57:00

:arg: ... :/

Anyway, I voted for already having one and not buying this... I only bought my 3000 a few weeks ago. I was worried about the 4000 being superior and stuff, but it seems like buying it now was good. I would like to play previous games without some strange process of conversion or whatever it is. If you can even play UMD titles at all.

Pirate how? I'm just saying that buying a 16gb card will give you the same space as the internal memory of the PSP Go.

And just because I prefer downloaded to a physical medium doesnt mean I dont buy games. I download some to try them, if I like them I buy them. Usually end up ripping the ISO from the UMD anyway. I do pirate some GBA games tho...

I already have a PSP 1000, and I like digital media, but the PSP Go! is just too expensive. Right now, GAME have it on pre-order for ?230! You can buy a 16GB iPod Touch here for ?216, and that has a superior UI, controls, web browser and loads more apps on the app store.

Sony really needs to reduce the price of this, if it is to succeed.

I've decided i'll buy this IF the price is decreased - i need to be able to afford it!

Until then i'm fine using this ancient psp that i stole from my brother

The only difference besides the look is that you can't play UMD. That's all. Anyhow, you own the superior PSP imo.

It's more expensive than the previous models, but I have ?70 of Game vouchers left over from christmas, and it's released a couple of weeks before my birthday so I'm not too bothered.
Roll on October!

If there is someway to carry my old UMD games too the new psp then i'm on board.

PSP is really stepping it up next year. Peace Walker, LBPsp, Monster Hunter. It's going to be great.

Yeah and monster hunter is next month, but i was scarce for examples, I know there are more.

I also heard that they're working on something for legacy umds.

My psp is currently hacked so I'll probably just use the GO for my legitimately acquired games

***Notice***
I never said I pirated games, read carefully.

Sign me up for more kingdom hearts. Those game are sweet, except for the story, which sucks pretty bad imho.

Fire Team Bravo is also sweet, but I wasn't a huge fan of the tactics one.

The story is kinda convoluted for something targeted at a somewhat younger audience I think (kh), but I like the gameplay cuz it takes what's good about ff and kills the turn based part (who is gonna just stand and get hit by an opponent in real life? Biggest problem i have with that series).2009-06-07 06:35:00

Try and Imagine that time is frozen between moves, I believe thats the intended effect. If you were to watch the battle unfold in real time, it would be move after move after move. At least that's how I perceive it.

Any one play resistance retribution?

Still, you have no choice but to get hit, and that's unrealistic. That's why i like kh, you only get hit if it's an attack impossible to dodge or if you didn't move fast enough, it's much more realistic (as far as realistic goes when you're talking about magic and made-up creatures, etc)

But anyway, no psp, so no. Gonna get a go I think.

I've never even considered the 3000, but that's because I have a 2000.

My only fear for the GO is how fragile it might be.

But in case you're interested, here's an article I found about it, sounds cautiously optimistic towards the go: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/06/ars-talks-digital-distribution-with-sony-plays-with-psp-go.ars

The PSP Go is a striking piece of hardware: both thin and light, but it feels neither cheap nor fragile. The screen is noticeably smaller than the original PSP, but the picture is razor sharp and bright. I'm impressed by the sound coming out of the speakers as well?it's very loud and clear.
Thank you this addresses a great deal of my concerns. It says piracy will be more difficult, but to be honest as someone who has dabbled in piracy for psp, I gotta say it's not really worth it
