Clay material! :D

Who else thinks this would be really nice

We could make levels that look like they're made entirely of play dough!

Or someone could make Neverhood/Skullmonkeys style levels

Or if Mm feel like going a bit more advanced they could make the material squish under pressure or maybe even have things cut through it somehow
I'd be happy with just a standard material though

I'd prefer a Neverhood pack but anything made out of clay would be cool

I think clay would add a whole new aspect to the game in a way, it just looks awesome and really crafty/lbp-ish.
Pretty much every theme could be made with it and still look cool :3

A sackboy made out of clay instead of cloth would be really cool, and i don't think it'd feel out of place either!

Yeah and we need this theme tune in with the Neverhood pack!!

Oh My God that music ahs just inspired me. Apparently to the point that I spell "has" wrong. How does this idea work for you dex?

In addition to a few clay materials, we could have the Global Clayify Tool.... All materials get re-rendered with a clay feel. I can just imagine the really detailed realistic levels and the MGS levels, instantly transformed into a clay wonderland! With that music.

Further Oh My Gods as I read that you can a) buy the soundtrack and b) seriously OMG - there is a film coming out later this year. Perfect cross media promotional tie-in SCE.

I find everything about the neverhood series inspiring
The music, the clayness, overall design and it's really funny
It just has a really crazy creative vibe to it!

Kind of tempted to make a neverhood style level

I'd rather just have clay as a normal material to begin with
I wouldn't want to cause to much hard work for Mm
Besides i wouldn't want it squishing all the time, it could start limiting it's uses

But maybe if Mm released 'Soft Clay' some time after normal clay is released

I do like the idea of moulding clay and throwing clayballs but I don't hold out much hope...

Rather than making clay squishy, which would probably be a drain on the engine (this is a whole new feature to be added into an already complex engine) clay could just have no bounce whatsoever. When clay hits another material it would just stop, with an appropriate sound effect. It would feel a bit more clay-y then.

Materials seem to have slightly different coefficients of restitution anyway, so they could just set it to 0.

You gave me an idea, maybe clay could stick to things, but can be pulled off unlike glue. Anyone like this? Discuss.

i think you are looking into this too muchI don't see why... Restitution appears (to me at least, I could be wrong, it's difficult to tell) to be a parameter that existing materials have. It has to be set to something, why not 0? Just like if you'd drag clay across another material, friction would be very high. That's not asking for anything new in the engine, a new material has to have these basic properties associated with it.

As for realtime glueing and unglueing in play mode. I like the idea and I can think of a few ideas for puzzles using this, but they all rely on the clay being glued and then not coming apart. Might be tricky to control, I dunno.
