Final Fantasy XIV

Yes, that's right, XIV.

Looks like the PlayStation 3 (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-3/) is getting a double dose of Final Fantasy next year, as Sony reveals a new online Final Fantasy XIV (http://kotaku.com/tag/final-fantasy-xiv/) for the PlayStation 3. Yes, XIV.
A complete and utter surprise to the entire audience, Final Fantasy XIV (http://kotaku.com/tag/final-fantasy-xiv/) will be coming to the PlayStation 3 exclusively next year, assumedly after Final Fantasy XIII is released. A brief trailer was shown which looked very much like Final Fantasy XI, with the text "A new online epic begins."
So it sounds like an exclusive, massively multiplayer online game for the PlayStation 3. We'll have more as soon as there is more to have!
Update: Note that FInal Fantasy XIV is console exclusive to the PlayStation 3, with the PC also getting a version.

I'm kinda upset :/. I never liked FF11 being, well, FF11- it SHOULD have been Final Fantasy Online or something... I don't know, making the mmos mainstream titles, well, I just don't like that. Makes me feel weird...2009-06-03 02:01:00

You're absolutely right. They should have called 11 "Final Fantasy Online". Maybe that would make this next one "Final Fantasy Online 2"?? Who knows. Just don't call it Final Fantasy 14. Seriously, it's ridiculous. I mean when they announced it at the keynote, the audience laughed. They laughed. "Are you serious? We haven't even played 13 yet! It's not even coming out THIS YEAR!!"

Woah , never played FF. You don't know what you're missing. FF7 on PS1 is still one of the best games in the history of videogames and if you can find, beg, steal or borrow it i advise you to do so. It's my favourite game ever alongside Front Mission 3 and easily my favourite FF game.

My 2nd favourite FF game would be FF9 and would recommend you play that also. Although the graphics in 7 & 9 aren't as realistic as in 8 & 10, they are better games imo and the characters and story are much more engrossing.

Be warned though they are massive games. When I played FF7 the first time the ingame clock stopped at 99 hours and 59 minutes and I spent at least another 20 hours on the game before i finished it, although admittedly most of the extra time was spent laboriously levelling up to make the last bosses easier to beat but it isn't strictly necessary if you're a good gamer.

Look out for them anyway, you won't regret it.

I am seriously looking forward to FF13 and 14 although I don't know if I can bear to tear myself away from LBP

I'm finishing the last bits of FF6. And I'll probably play through 9 and try to beat all the weapons because I never did when it came out. 9 has the best artstyle I think. Old medieval stuff. Love it.2009-06-03 14:58:00

Wow. Ya never played any of em??? Final Fantasy was one of the first games I got on the NES. And I've been playing them ever since. I even had the couple that were released on the original gameboy. The only ones i think I missed were the Japanese releases(I never got around to playing em when they were rereleased to the rest of the world.) and FFXI as I didn't have broadband at the time. It's an amazing series and I'd recommend it to anyone.2009-06-03 15:15:00

I bet some of you didn't know that the reason the creator named it Final Fantasy was because it was the last project he was going to make. Or the last one he was allowed to make or something. Here we are decades later with tons of more titles haha.2009-06-03 15:55:00

All I can say is:

No monthly fee pl0x.

The Agency isn't supposed to have one. DCUO isn't supposed to have one. FFXIV shouldn't have one either.

It wasn't supposed to be the last one he was supposed to make, it was Square's final hope of succeeding- the company's future depended on if the game bombed or not, so they named it Final Fantasy as it was the company's final fantasy at actually succeeding.
