For days, I haven't been able to get online to the playstation network. Every time I try it says that there is a DNS error. This has been going for about four days and I am starting to get very worried. 2009-06-02 22:50:00

I don't know, your Ps3 probably isn't connecting to the internet at all. Check.2009-06-02 22:57:00

It's not connecting to the internet either - guaranteed - if it's the same as what's happening to mine.

I've been having trouble with DNS errors too. Started with the latest PS3 System Update. Not sure if it's related or not. I can usually get it working by going into the setup and resetting all the settings again. Occasionally I need to shut down my modem for a few minutes then fire it back up and try to sign in again.

There's a huge thread about DNS server errors on the playstation website. I took some notes from it and their solutions work some of the time too. I figure I'll wait till the next system update to see if it changes anything before going Office Space on my modem.

Alright, I went in and did an internet connection test. It obtained the IP address, but, for some reason, could not connect to the internet. It could connect fine before all of this. I did the new update do something?2009-06-02 23:14:00

I get DNS errors when my PS3 can't connect to the internet at all. Does it work on your computer? If it doesn't you could try turning off your modem for a little while and try turning it on later.2009-06-02 23:39:00

Yes, it works on my computer. Hmm. I'll try turning it off for a little while and see if that helps.2009-06-02 23:41:00

Oh this happened to me as well, i couldn't sign in for a week or two
Weird thing is, it got fixed when i switched the IP adress' last number by +1.
Don't know if that can help you or not, but it fixed my problem, so i guess its worth a shot right?

I just turned it back on after it being off for fifteen minutes, and I even tried your suggestion, Silverleon, but I keep getting the DNS error message.2009-06-03 00:03:00

Hmm, I think I remember seeing some tips on this. I'll try to find them for you.2009-06-03 00:07:00

I recommend http://portforward.com/.

you first search for which router you have. After that you just click on "playstation network", and follow the directions there. You'll have to also set up your PS3 with a static IP in the manual network settings. But this has all worked well for me.

Nope, I was thinking of something else. Oh well it doesn't hurt to try, maybe it'll work. I took this from a post over at LBW.

I cannot Join or Invite anyone online or I am having horrible lag
Fix
1. Go to your router settings, change the MTU to 1492 from default
2. Go to your PS3, manually set your wireless or wired connection
3. At IP address, set it to be static, such as 192.168.1.9, the last number doesnt have to be 9, can be anything
4. When asked what your MTU is, set it to 1492 also, just like your router
5. Back to the router, set DMZ on for the ps3's IP Address, this opens all ports and connections for max speed if needed

Umm...I didn't see this mentioned in the first post, is the PS3 connected directly to the router? If it isn't, try doing that if you can.2009-06-03 00:57:00

Did you shut down the modem or the PS3? I've had to physically unplug the power from my modem - wait a few minutes then plug it back in to get it to work right. I'm running a cable modem hard wired into a wireless router and it sometimes works. The only other thing I can think of is to go on your computer and find out the manual settings that are working for it then jot them down and set your PS3 with that info. I'll see if I can't find that website for you too.

Sorry - I was driving home from work so I didn't see the other posts you had.

*sigh* Good news. I restored the default settings as a last hope, and it actually worked, so far. I seem to be back online.2009-06-03 01:06:00

Cool - here's the link just in case she acts up again. It's a ton of reading but it helped me get mine to limp along for now.

Crud. After a day or two of good graces from my PS3, now I have a can't get online again . Now whenever I try to get online, I can't and instead of a DNS error, it just plain says an error occurred. What do I do now?:eek:2009-06-06 21:10:00

When I get that I just try to sign in a couple times and it works after a little while. Do you get any error number?2009-06-07 02:44:00

I tried it a few times, and it seems to be working okay so far. (kind of embarassing that that's all it took) I'll post some more if it gives me any more trouble. I might end up sending it in. 2009-06-07 04:34:00

LOL it's funny how we have the exact same troubles. Mine hasn't been annoying me lately, only when other people come in my pod.2009-06-07 04:46:00
