Aquarium Adventure by Lady_Luck__777

Archive: 35 posts

This level ( my third) was designed to be a relaxing "eye candy" experience. I played with different techniques to try and produce a more interactive enviornment. It started off when the level I was working on produced the glitched eels. The entire level then changed and was built around the eels. I wanted movement so I started playing around with objects that had movement and stickers. I wanted to do a lot more however my thermo overheated and I had to start deleting items. With that said,

Come enjoy a relaxing day at the Aquaruim. Swim with the fish, explore the reef, ride the turtles and seahorses. Be sure and see our rare glitched eels. Most importantly please have fun .

BIG thank you to my hubby RickRock_777 for adapting his sentry prototype into a Sea turtle for this level.

Here are some thumbnail pics of the level, and a Video link is below in my Signature.

Yes I'm her hubby, but I will give my unbiased opinion of this level, as I, and our 7 year yr. old daughter, played it numerous times during Beta testing over a 2 month period, and the online finshed version when it was published the first week of April. Guess I'll be the first to give a review.

The use of the animated 3D stickers in this level is ingenious. When the level was released, there were no levels like this on LBP, and IMHO it established a benchmark, inspiring many of the levels using this technique today.

As I played this level, it actually made me feel like I was at an aquarium, and some childhood memories came to mind. The color and decorations are awesome, and the level has a very polished look from the entrance all the way to the exit. The level has a very relaxing and serene quality about it as well, and I always feel great when playing it. The glitched eels in this level are a very rare find, and add another unique quality to the level. The Sea Turtle ride towards the end was a lot of fun, but it ended way too soon--another 30 minutes would have been nice . The Photo Booth concept, which allows you to make the choice of having a photo taken, was a great idea also. This level shows attention to detail can make all the difference in the world.

There is nothing really lacking in this level. Maybe a few more decorations, but I know first hand that the Thermo is so full, that adding anything else actually causes things to disappear.

I gave it 5-Stars, tagged Brilliant, and a Heart for ingenuity and execution, and for taking Aquarium levels to the next plateau.

Bravo! Very Well Done!

I recommend everyone give this level a go.

And to all the true LBP Creators, we are a rare breed indeed!

I played this level again recently, and it's one of the most beautiful creations I've seen. Lots of great touches make this one a worthwhile play.

PROS
+ Brilliantly rich visuals
+ Detailed, realistic environment
+ Charming and magical to play
+ Very cool sea life!

CONS
- If I were to be picky, it may not suit the 'macho' players, but I'm really clutching at straws for bad points

OVERALL
Very satisfying, relaxing and fun level

Hearted, 5* and tagged with 'Beautiful'

If you could F4F my Hyper Sphere I'd be most grateful. - MrsSB

I have already shared my thoughts, but to make it official I will add this to your level showcase.

Really beautiful level. Calm, relaxing, tranquil, and no noticible fishy smell at all !! Just a good time playing about with friends, taking pics, and to take turns feeding the turtles. Nice idea with the animated 3d stickers as well.

..not really a platform game or challenging. ..but who cares!! It's nice to have some fun scenic levels to gad about in. Simply marvelous, mindless enjoyment.

Great job!!

Thank you for your glowing review, help and tolerance during and after publishing this level. Your support is greatly appreciated.

MrsSpookyBuz

Thank you. I appreciate your wonderful feedback and am glad you found it beautiful and worthwhile. As for the 'macho' players- good point. Hopefully it will appeal to their secret soft side or to their girlfriends.

jwwphotos

Thank you. I hope you, your girlfriend and her friends continue to have fun gadding about at the Aquaruim. Your shared thoughts were encouraging and supportive to me.

Tried this one out. I was really impressed. Your aesthetics are awesome. Normally I like a challenging level, but I can also appreciate a beautiful level like yours. I really enjoyed just taking my time going through it, and checking everything out. For what your trying to do with this level I think it's perfect. Great work!!!!

If you could give me feedback on one of the levels in my sig I'd appreciate it. To find the threads just click showcase levels <<<<. Thanks.

OK it's feedback time!

1st impression: Very cute really like your escalator

OK let me just say I really don't play many levels (well not till joining the site I am such a creating fiend I just don't get out much. My friends tell me I'm crazy, I tell them they don't know LBP!

I don't know what I was expecting, but this is a totally different kind of level.

While there is no 'game element' per-se, this is still very enjoyable and informative.

You use some tricks here I don't think i have seen before. Maybe I had but didn't notice it/know better.

I like your escalator.

1st aquarium:
I'm not the best at decor, which is why I make alot of indoor environments, so my familiarity with what you have used and how you have used it are lacking. Which means I may not be able to appreciate some of what you have done, but I can certainly see it's beauty!

I find your use of the accessory killer very creative.

2nd:
Looks beautiful. Huh I found a little secret. and I killed the 2 moving 'jelly fish' looking things.

3rd: The eels of death! Cool looking!

4th: Love the sea turtles!

The glass wall with pics on it almost looks like stained glass very cool effect.

This is a very different kind of level and hard to rate or objectify to me for the above stated reasons...but I will try

I gave it 4 stars and a beautiful tag. I would have loved to have some game elements in each of the tanks. I do understand that it is for looks. I can appreciate this just like the music levels. While they aren't platformers they are still very creative and very difficult to make.

So Bravo on a beautiful unconventional level! I really was relaxed and my eyes were pleased!

You know what's funny - I played this level a few weeks ago with a big group of players. The game host chose it and I thought it was really fun and pretty.

Playing it again alone I was able to fully appreciate all the stuff you've got going on in it. It's one of the first if not the first level I played that had the eyeball moving decorations on it. There are a bunch of those now but I think yours was the first I saw. Really enjoyed the lush decor and great colors you have in the tanks. It's a bit overwhelming to try and take in all at once but the overall effect is lovely.

I truly love your turtles. Yours and one other level who's name eludes me at the moment have the best turtles in LBP imo. I have to applaud the diversity in the styles of fish and animals you have too. I had fish for awhile and still marvel at them.

Not a traditional platformer as levels go but it is very beautiful and relaxing - much like a real aquarium so it lives up to the name. The escalators are cool too.

Overall I gave it 4 stars and tagged it beautiful! Thanks for sharing it!

Thank you smasher1973

Thank you AJnKnox

Thank you Morgana25

The level was originally to be a platformer level, then it took on a life of its own. It changed to a visual, serene level. My intent then became to make it as visually pleasing and relaxing as I could.

All of the wonderful feedback has shown me I accomplished what I set out to do.

Thanks again to everyone.

I enjoyed this level a lot - the scenery, the interactivity, all just great!

Pros:
+ Peaceful and calm to play
+ A nice relaxing break from hectic difficult levels
+ Lovely visuals
+ The sea turtles are very nice
+ Glitched eels!

Cons:
- A little more decoration would be nice
- More structured placement of the score bubbles

I couldn't find much wrong with this - so I give it a big juicy heart!

Thank you very much Coxy224.

I wish I could have added more however thermo kept blowing through the roof and deleting things.

As for more structured placement of the score bubbles- please pm me with your suggestion. I'm always willing to change it make improvements.

I played this level a while ago but you didn't have a thread here so I couldn't give you any feedback. Here it is now (+ is positive, - is negative):

+Very nice escalator, I haven't seen much of those in LBP. I noticed you made unslippery glass, how'd you do that?
+Nice environments in all the tanks, very nice use of the "decoration on an eye" trick.
+I like how you have to go through each tank to find a jetpack to get out.
+Wow, very nice turtles.
-It's pretty short and doesn't have that much gameplay.

Overall a nice level that looked very nice as well. I gave it 4 stars and tagged "cute."

Hi, just played the level, heres my thoughts

+ Liked the spinning plant at the start, great effect.
+ Nice escalators
+ The aquaruims look fantastic
+ Like the effect with the fish pivoting, are they attached to eyes or something.
+ Liked the eels and the venus fly trap like creatures, nice idea using points for eyes!
+ The feeding the turtles effect was great

- The running towards the end of the level, its rather empty when the rest is full of like and colour, but thats probably thermo issues

I enjoyed the level, it was really colourful and well put together. I couldnt post a score, I logged out of PSN just before the scoreboard, and it wont reconnect

**** and beautiful.

My F4F is in my sig.

It is Dark matter glass I made before the patch (u can get it in the level in the souvenir shop)

Over loaded thermo

Thank you for your review brnxblze.

Loved the tricks you used. Now EYE know the eye trick! Yay. But you also had a few other tricks I haven't seen. And maybe you used the mixed-material glitch???

All in all a very lovely level with some cool things. A couple of emptier spots but nothing that detracts too much from the enjoyment. I recommend this one to people but the name implied an adventure whereas it felt more like an art gallery at times.

Thanks for making such a lovely level though. Great artwork, creativity and overall enginuity. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Cool, I'll check that out. I need it for my HouseWork level (the freezer part.)

Ah, that's exactly what I thought happened. It's ok though, it was good enough.

Haven't used the mixed-material glitch yet but am looking forward to playing with it. I used glitched material that MM's patch fixed.

(I received the following comment from someone else) "cute idea needs some adventure though this felt more like a trip to an over decorated mall."

I agree I probably need to change the name to something a little more fitting but my brain is just not coming up with anything catchy at the moment. Suggestions??

Which area did you find emptier? Maybe I can move some of the decorations from the overdecorated area to that.

Well I can't remember specifically but I think I was referring to a couple of the areas "between" aquariums.

As for a name, good question, I spend hours trying to think of names for my levels. But I guess I'm a little anal about it. Maybe Aqua-Gardens or Aquarium Diving. I don't know really. That will keep me thinking for a wile now though

And I would KILL to know how you scaled up and down objects like you did (like the blowfish). If you ever feel like sharing that tidbit of info you should PM me or make an official thread. It is "Play, Create, Share" after all. I revealed the mixed material trick in the "everything else LBP" forum.

And if you get a chance could you give your thoughts on my BELOW THE ROOT - Chapter 3 :Temple Grund level. All the previous in this series (including prequel) are spotlighted here at LBPC but no one is noticing this new level thread of mine

PS my wife absolutely adored your level too. TTYL

I remember doing Quick Play and playing your Temple of Dragons level, which I loved. It's cool to see what else you've done.

First thing I noticed is the decorations: they're just amazing. You sure know how to make the best out of the decorations MM have given us. In addition to the decorations, your custom stickers were beautiful.

Now the decorations on the eyes, that was just amazing. It really makes the fish life-like. And the starfish that grew bigger, those were even more amazing!

The escalator was really cool, I have one suggestion, though: putting the wheel one layer back, if possible. At first I didn't realize it was an escalator.

This level really shows off some awesome glitches. My favorite ones were the lava material and the harmless fire. I gotta look up how to do those.

My favorite part in the whole level was the sea turtles. The design was great, and the swimming part at the end was pulled off amazingly. The flipper movements were a little out of sync, but other than that, it was completely life-like.

At the end, I gave it 5/5 and a heart.

I thought your level was really pretty and the effects with the fish were really nifty! The whole ambiance was really going. I really liked the turtles, they were very well-made. Props to your husband on that one! I had a little trouble with the elevator at the end, but that was probably just me haha! :hero:2009-06-09 00:01:00

Thank you Sackdragon,
Temple of the Dragons was my first attempt at an actual level. I'm glad you liked it. I kept making it easier due to comments, finally just kinda stopped working on it. Maybe that will change now that I know about LBPC.

Unfortunatly I can't move the wheel back or sticker it without deleting something.

Rick appreciates your comment on the turtles and says thank you!

Well this was a lovely little trip. More aquarium than adventure

I like the fish morphing to look at me. Simple as it may be, it's effective and made me smile.

Elevators at the beginning, I just ran up them. xD Realized they were elevators once they caught up with me.

Turtle was cute, but I fell off and just slid along the ice because I'm able to hold still that well.

I personally like actually playing instead of just looking, but this is a great 'just look' level.

Thank you for your review Louis.
I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. I am working on a new name, Aquarium Adventure was my daughter's idea and she's has said she would "allow" me to change it.
I'm thankful that gameplay level creators & non-gameplay level creators here at LBPC can appreciate & support the effort that's put into each other's work.

As promised, I just played your Aquarium level - My Hubby joined in so you may well have two opinions here!!

Rhyfelwr:

Wow - just wow!

Unique, spellbinding, beautiful and fun.

The use of materials for me stuck out.. not just once or twice, but used imaginatively throughout - brilliant.

Like your hubby, It also reminded me of the obligatory trip to the seaside aquarium and felt as if I was there - not just playing a game - which is a true credit to the undoubted hard work you've put in here.

Even from the beginning, with the escalators, the ingenuity poured from every corner, making me slow down to a crawl and taking in the sights - of which there are thousands. I even dressed up for the occasion!

Loved the interactive fish that turn towards the player!

Personally, I like visually stimulating levels. I enjoy art and creativity and your level smacked me in the face with a bucketload!

The icing on the cake was the styled Japanese shop and booth area. You not only took us on a rich journey, you just had to take it to the next level and leave us both in awe.

This level genuinely deserves 5 stars - as it got from us.

IceMaiden:

I also like visually stimulating levels and this one didn't let me down. I have a keen eye for picking up on any visual faults but I didn't find any!

It's beautiful, relaxing and perfectly crafted.

A joy to my eyes.

I couldn't wait to get on the turtle - It was gorgeous - and I loved feeding them - yeah!

We could have played on the escalator for ages!

Its just a thoroughly delightful and enjoyable experience playing this level.

Very, very well done - you should be proud!

First off - I'm sorry for holding your request for some time, I've been terribly busy.

Second of all - your review.

It's the scariest level I've ever played. Quite honestly. I mean, seriously, the fish man...The growing starfish, it's just...watching...looking...waiting...

...

...Anyway, I love the exploitation of the decoration glitch in this, it's absolutely brilliant and adds a lot of life and realism to the level, which is a rather difficult thing to do in LBP as you probably already know. The fish tank in the beginning is splendid, it would go really great in a bedroom concept theme if you were planning a level which revolves around a mansion or something. However, I very much doubt that, so I'll just say - wow. Awesome job.

As far as gameplay is concerned, well, there isn't a lot really but I'm guessing this is just a concept level, right? A showcase of how well you can decorate and make fish randomly stare and follow your every move...(Again, this is the creepiest level I've ever played...). Sadly (and this is the only negative thing I have to say about it), it's a tad bit short. I would have loved to see a shark in the aquarium, that would be epic! Even so, the graphics are very nice and gentle on the eyes, which is a change from the dark and haunting levels I'm used to playing and making (even though this in itself is haunting...).

Anywhom, I must say that overall it's a very nice and cute level, yet I'm still suspicious of the growing starfish...

5 stars, hearted, tagged "Creepy"

Now for the punchline - may I have F4F for my DMC (Mission IV) - Demonic Vengeance level? Feel free to put this off for another two months...

Hey Lady_Luck!

I just played your Aquarium level (and your hubbies Takken lvl )... What you were shooting for, or at least what it evolved to, you hit very well...

What I really appreciate about this level and the LBL creator in general is the fact that ART can be interactive... You really seemed to get your finger on the pulse of a salt water aquarium ( are you a fish fanatic too?)... The turtle feeding was a marvelous touch...

As far as gameplay is concerned... does every level have to have danger and death lurking around every corner? I think you proved it does not...

If I read correctly it took you 2 months? Wow... I see good levels can't be rushed

Looking forward to more of your work

amalsam thank you for your comments

I have in my time owned many aquariums and at one point managed a pet shop.

Yes it took me close to two months but that is because I tend to over analyze things. Many great creators I've seen can produce levels in a much shorter time.

Glad you enjoyed it and I hope I won't disappoint in the future.

And I liked the prizes.
How did you do the flaming monolith?
4 stars and a heart for you and your level...I tried another of your levels but I didn't remember which one since today I played for nearly 10 hours (I have this chance nearly once in a lifetime)
By the way, even the other was good (I played only levels from LBPC guys and gals...and everyone was good)

Played this level last night because it sounded similar in spirit to my newest level.

Really enjoyed it; very trippy use of colors and materials and put to very creative use! I would have liked to have seen you create more fish/creatures instead of relying so much on the 3d stickers. The creatures you did create (like the turtles) turned out so well and had a lot of character. The turtle tank was definitely my favorite. I gave it 4 stars and the un-original beautiful tag.

Anyway, you clearly have an appreciation for fish, so please consider giving "Aquanaut's Photo Op" a try...my post in the level showcase didn't garner any interest and it has virtually no plays which make me sad.
