YouTube - Drag Me To Hell - Trailer Anyone see this yet? just got back from it a couple of hours ago. Pretty good time at the movies. I'm not the biggest horror fan, but I LOVE the Evil Dead series, so I've been looking forward to this. First off, it's not Evil Dead - it's definitely a campy old-school horror flick with more sense of fun than seriousness, but not nearly as over the top as Sam Raimi's previous stuff. And sometimes the camp seems a bit out of tone with the more serious parts of the film. I mean, sometimes it just flies right off the **** handle, which can be jarring next to the rest of the film, which is quite straight-forward. It's not a deep movie, its characters aren't particularly fleshed out or engrossing, it can be really predictable at times, but it is a hell of a lot of fun. No pun intendied. | 2009-05-30 08:33:00 Author: Teebonesy ![]() Posts: 1937 |

I've seen this advertised a few times, but now i know what it's about it actually looks like a pretty good film ![]() Tv ads for horror movies only ever tell you that it's really really scary and it's flashing from scene to scene to make it more drammatticcc!! | 2009-05-30 14:04:00 Author: Dexiro ![]() Posts: 2100 |

The response so far has been phenomonal!! | 2009-05-31 09:43:00 Author: Zwollie ![]() Posts: 2173 |
Wait, this movie is actually good? The commercial doesn't make it look good at all IMO, just looks like a mediocre horror flick. I really don't like the story that she gets cursed from some woman that doesn't get a loan from the bank, they should fire whichever genius wrote that up (if that's not the story forgive me, that's what I got from one of the commercials.) | 2009-05-31 09:58:00 Author: brnxblze ![]() Posts: 1318 |

That is what she gets curse for...isn't it? She is cruel to an old woman to get a promotion, and the woman curses her. She chose career over kindness and gets cursed to be dragged to Hell. | 2009-05-31 22:40:00 Author: iiiijujube ![]() Posts: 594 |

Wow, that's a pretty lame story IMO... It beats the hell out of, "you've got two different colours in your eye -> [big logic gap] -> your dead twin's going to eat you and so will an old upside-down crawly man" or whatever the unborn was about (I didn't see it, this is the plot I perceived from the trailer). "Drag me to hell" may actually be good, and even though I don't have to pay for cinema tickets, I can't be bothered to sift through the scores of bad horror films to find the occasional good one. | 2009-06-01 11:27:00 Author: rtm223 ![]() Posts: 6497 |
I think I need to clarify the tone of this movie for people who aren't familiar with the Evil Dead series. It's supposed to be a funny, schlocky, campy type of old school horror movie. The type of old-school horror movie that Sam Raimi INVENTED, and nobody does it quite like him. yes, the movie is absolutely about a loan officer making the choice to turn down a begging old gypsy woman for a payment extension who's about to have her house foreclosed. The gypsy woman then curses her with the "Lamia", a demon that torments you for 3 days before coming to claim your soul to suffer in Hell. Horror movies traditionally have a spot of fun being topical. You want to take something that's going on in the world, something that frustrates people, and make it into a horror fantasy. In this case, the loan is inconsequential. It could be anything selfish she does really that causes this woman to curse her. It's a loan because it's topical. We're in a recession. If the times aren't reflected in the day's schlocky horror flicks, then someone's not doing their job. But the movie's as funny as it is scary. There IS a monster, in the form of a demon from Hell that shows up to haunt the main character. The movie knows how to pay off, too. When the movie ends and you leave the theater, you've likely had a good time. It's stupid, it's funny, it's got some scares, and more than a few NASTY gross-outs. Seriously, this is the type of movie you want to see in a big crowd at the movies. Huge screen, blaringly loud speakers, and a big crowd of jumpy movie-goers. | 2009-06-01 21:31:00 Author: Teebonesy ![]() Posts: 1937 |
