well, what interests YOU? You know what they say about writing ("write what you know") the same goes for creating in a way- if its something that you can envision, or feel really inspired about, its a great start for a level

As to the help in switches, etc. Figure out what you want to do, and we can help you do it Its just a little vague right now ;p

Well, I started with something I really liked. I picked a theme (space) then designed some aliens and some planets (like characters and sets) That helps you get an idea of a few materials you'd want to use and can inspire new stuff depending on how the design comes together. After the theme and the characters then I did the landscape and platform elements.

My levels aren't hard to play as I'm not real good at complicated wiring and such as well. Feel free to play Chroma Stone 1 or even some of my REALLY early stuff like Little Big Apple to see some pretty simple wiring with big visuals. You don't have to of course but if you play my 1st level (2008 A Sack Odyssey) then compare it to the Tron one or the Chroma Stone series - you can see (hopefully) that you gotta start somewhere and you learn as you go.

Well maybe if they made a double jump system, or a system that lets you pick up enemies and use them for a double jump like in klonoa, I could make some Klonoa levels 2009-05-29 23:36:00

There's a thread in the Tutorials section about getting over creative block, not sure whether it'll be any help
https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5501

I think it's best that you make something that you're interested in or feel passionate about, or maybe just pick a random object from your surroundings and try to make a level themed on it

I was going to suggest making a Klonoa level since you're obviously interested in that
And you don't need to have double jumping to make a Klonoa level either!
I made my rayman level and there are tons of things in that that i had to work around

Could you make a spring system that has a dissolveable enemy on top of it and when sackboy grabs (R1) the enemy - it dissolves (grab sensor set to on then put the wire in the dissolve material) and then he can bounce on the spring platform?

I'm not familiar with Klonoa so I don't know if that would be a good alternative to the double jump.

You don't have to exactly do what your inspiration is either. Use it as a jumping off point to do your own thing. Maybe Klonoa is just a character your run into along the way? Or you're trying to help him do something so you don't need the player to do exactly what he can do? Make sense?

Actually, Dawesbr has made a double jumping system, so that would probably work pretty well Or like morgana said, you could make enemies that do spring jumps, like the meercats in teh story mode, and that would do it 2009-05-30 00:12:00

Well I don't want to start to hard, I want to start with simple things, which kinds of levels would be simple to make?

Also Morgana Love your Chroma stone Level series so far

I could try to work around the double jump thing. It wouldn't be easy lol... I can also set up a lab for making things Like the Key doors in klonoa, or enemies.

I dunno... again, its really up to you. What i'd reccomend, is maybe just messing around in the create mode for a bit. Maybe you'll come across a shape or object or item you make and go "hmmm, that would be kinda fun to make a level with" and then you can go from there .

Easy is just a state of mind, and anyway, this is your first level, chances are its not going to be an instant success, but everyone has to start somewhere, right? and if you like the idea later, you can always go back and remake it

Simple would probably be a fairly easy "walkthrough" kind of level. Very linear with some simple jumps, swings, bouncing and really easy puzzles. It's a good way to learn the basics of creating. Just don't expect huge results when you publish it.

A good way to start a level like this is to draw it out first. Doesn't have to be the whole thing at once. I usually do sections at a time. There's a strategy of doing small, self contained boxes of parts of the level, then putting them all together at the end. I did a variation of that on Chroma Stone 2.

First things first though - pick a theme. Could be a type of landscape, could be a color, could be that you want players to swing through the level alot, could be a character or movie or song or food or vehicle.... can be anything!

Play some levels online - helps get the creative juices flowing too. Just don't steal peoples stuff.

i'm actually tempted to make my own Klonoa level now!
i mean, Klonoa pretty much sparked my interest in making games, and it's still my favourite game to this day

I'll see what you can come up with first though

If you want i can post some tips on remaking games in LBP

I started out with a fairly simple level with some swinging, racing and pre-made enemies, after that I took a template and tried to make something out of it... That's not really recommended, it's a lot of work to do.

Start out small, think about what you like in LBP most, try to simplify it and then make that. Avoid complicated switches. Just try to keep everything simple and small.
