Never ending tech demo?

hey all, I love playing rangerzero's "Crazy Train" level since I really love train levels. now my question is, how the hell does the train keeps riding and riding? it should reach the end shouldn't it? if not, can someone explain how to do this effect? | 2009-05-29 19:21:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
I haven't played that level but maybe the ground is moving, not the train and new track sections are spawned off screen. | 2009-05-29 19:42:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
If you can see the floor then the train will be just above it with dark matter or invisible connecctors. The wheels will just be spinning freely. Also any walls/ scenery will be moving quickly in the opposite direction and will be re-emitted to make it look like one big section of walls/ scenery. That's just a guess because I haven't yet played that level either. EDIT: Have a look at this basic train tech video by zPlayer: YouTube - My Fortress Train Level (beta) Also, look a this finished train level by Vanemiera: YouTube - Kikaiwa: Strain of life The thread I got them from was this. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=9196&highlight=train+level) | 2009-05-29 20:00:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
If it's anything like my level, Midnight Train, the concept is simple. Large pieces of terrain are emitted from an emitter at one end of the level, and they get moved by conveyor to the other end of the level (I use wheels on the terrain pieces instead) where they disappear. The train can be held in place by dark matter or a variable-speed motor bolt. Some of the minigames in LBP actually use infinite terrain like this. A while ago I made a thread explaining the method I use : https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4475 | 2009-05-29 20:11:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
Also, look a this finished train level by Vanemiera: YouTube - Kikaiwa: Strain of life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Law6PUFUydU&eurl) I've just noticed something else about that level, the train carriages actually disconnect from each other as the player advances. This could be done by winches on the carriage connectors to pull them apart and then a slow piston to make it look like it is slowing down as the rest of the train keeps going. | 2009-05-29 20:27:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
Thanks for the video's SAS, and thanks for the link Gilgamesh! this place is just too nice | 2009-05-29 20:32:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
actually i fell out of the map in ranger's crazy train level... the train is moving on the senery i think, (like it moves opposite in same speed so it stays in the same spot) and the senery moving backward, then dissapears | 2009-05-29 20:40:00 Author: johnrulz77 Posts: 835 |
Ok, this is exactly how RangerZero has done it - he said so himself: Yeah it's a bit of "out of the box" thinking. The background are emitted vehicules, each on their own plane, going at their own speed. If you could look under the level, you'd see there's 3 loooooooong dark matter platform and each of the background pieces are "racing" on it. The train is held by dark matter and placed so it just barely touch the track so its wheels are turning. Also, this is the 10,000th post in the Help!
