Many thanks again
I've never made a level before, so I'll have a crack at that but probably muck up.
Any tips?

1) uses as few MM objects as you can (preferably none, but this is a first level ;p)
2) cover up the mechanics (no visible dark matter, or switches)

those are about the most basic tips i can give there But getting those two steps covered is a BIG step in making a great level

If you haven't already, I suggest you check out all of the MM tutorials in create mode. Also, start by just playing around with the editor before making anything serious.

This thread will lead you to a lot of general and specific advice which will help a lot for making your level : https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7260

Remember to have fun making your level, take a break if something is getting too frustrating or not working.

Hi FatFaceJoe. Like the hair!

This is a GREAT site, and you will love it.

As for making your first level here are some pointers.
First off, you're in the very same state we all were when we started using the Create features of LBP. My suggestion is to go into a blank Level on your Moon, and start placing basic squares of the different materials that are in your Material popit to see what they look like. Then do the same with the Stickers popit, placing a varierty of stickers and colors on the square materials you just placed.

Once you've done that, use the Tools popit and explore what each sensor, switch, piston, bolt, etc. is, and work through the tutorials for these tools (this was also mentioned above). You'll find these tutorials by selecting the Tutorial option for each tool that is in your popit.

Obviously this will take some time, but it's a great way to learn. Once you have these basics under your belt, check out some of the Tutorials here on the LBPCentral Forums, and do a text search for "tutorial" Levels on the LBP PS Network and play some of those Levels.

And, while you're doing all of the above, start creating a Level with what you've learned and are trying to learn. Don't be afraid to explore, experiment or make mistakes.

Most of all, have fun with it.

Welcome to the forums! If you need any help, feel free to ask.

About the tutorials. Stick at them. Yes they're boring, but Stephen Fry does his best to counter that, and they're worth it when you begin creating!

Some of the best advice you could recieve! That and the tutorials will get you far.

With regard to getting into create mode and playing and exploring and making mistakes-- this is true gold.

My first steps in Create involved making a rocket powered hover craft (just to see if I could). I got one working and thought cool. Now I'll build a ramp. I did. Let's try it out... wheeee! Oh look I got a trophy... Amazing speed! Yeah... another trophy... Flying high! Ooops! I hit the wall and fell to the ground, but that was fun... Then the rocket sled fell on me and crushed me. Splat! I laughed out loud! At that point I was hooked on create.

Have fun.
